I continue to use my Livescribe 3 with absolutely terrific results. I am not affiliated with this company in any way. I use it to make research notes in my historical research work. It is especially useful when working with rare documents in archives. I can tap the paper and make an audio note to go along with what I am writing when that is appropriate to expand on an idea or on something that I am observing. I highly recommend this pen system for those who have serious notetaking requirements for work, school as an author.

What has happened between 2014 and 2020. Why does the Bluetooth connection not work directly to a windows laptop? The number of complaints on Amazon certainly make me re-think the purchase. The Aegir model is not even on there website. Maybe you should do a video of all the smartpens and provide an objective review. I had an Echo. Worked well with the mic in the pen and the conversion to text was actually pretty good for my bad handwriting. THey have so much potential but seems to be unable to capitalize on it. If you only have a smartphone it is adding extra steps in the transfer process when you want the audio included. I cannot believe the poor progress of products of this company
Omar, the Livescribe website has dot matrix paper that can be downloaded and printed, so you can create your own notebooks, you don't necessarily need to buy a notebook.

Have you found a way to gather all notes about a particular topic or client in one place (other than using Evernote) e.g. I wrote notes about Mr. Smith on several different days and I want to rearrange the pages /notes so that I have a section of notes devoted to Mr. Smith and that I can continue writing notes about our conversations, action items etc.?

I think this is a wonderful little gadget and perfect for people like me who love digital, but are still addicted to paper. My only question is if anyone knows exactly how much memory the pen has available? It isn't referenced in the specs. I know I can write unconnected and the app will later load and translate my notes, but is there a limit that you know of to how much it's able to store before needing to "offload" to the app? I don't know the answer to that question, but I also don't know what kind of measurement they would be able to give to let you know. Like how many words or pages? They might know how long the battery will last.

I am wondering if you may know after using this pen if one is able to adapt it to printed forms. I have watched your video, which is phenomenal...and a couple others and none of them mention it. Hi there Omar. Great video. You put in your video that it's possible for us to print our own sheets. Can you explain a little more? Is there a template I have to follow? How can I include the "coded dots" on the sheet?
They have a template that you can download and just print out on your printer and then use those printed sheets with your pen. The coded dots are on the file that you print.

So you want to take the audio from the pen and turn it into written text? No I don't believe the pen can do that. It just plays it back while you view your written notes.

I have the Echo 2G and the LED display screen cannot go more than 16 months operation before it got dimmed and the light extinguished, it will never be able to repair. So, I would like to know whether there's an LED display screen on the Livescribe 3. +Janet Garcia You can simply sinc your iPad with your iTunes app and upload all of the notes, and recording, to our computer. That way you'll get to delete the old notes and make some space in your iPad for new notes and pics.

Yes, you don't need your device to be on while you use the pen. It'll record all the information on the pen and it'll sync up as soon as you launch the app.

I liked your explanation but I wondered why you didn't click on the star and the Numbers and show me how to sync the pen and use the audio record. All in all good but I waited till the end to see the rest.
Why does the Livescribe 3 not have a speaker like the previous Livescribe Pens? I think the speaker is a great idea especially if I don't have my ph.or iPad connected

Omar Correa Thanks anyway! I'll try contacting the customer support of one of these apps (especially the ones compatible with Livescribe 3 such as NoteShelf). But in case you still owned the Livescribe 3 pen and you didn't mind checking out whether it is possible or not.... I would definitely appreciate! In fact one thing about the Livescribe 3 pen is that you can't edit or erase your text or drawings. So I think that the opportunity to post-process the digitized notes would be useful.
***** Perhaps, as mentioned, with PhotoShop or Illustrator (and/or other editing software: Gimp, Inkscape, MS Paint, etc.) you would be able to do that.

Livescribe should use this video. You did a much better introduction to the pen. My qeustion are: 1. What if you break/ or upgrade tablet, how to I access my notes? 2. Beside sharing online files as Cast-PDF (however you call it), could this be save independent on a flash drive and give to others to see even when not online? 3. Did you forget if it's possible to see text only as it plays without seeing entire page? 4. And Last, could you further explain the ability of importing and image to existing file. Lets see you want to import an image of an Atom and continue to record?
Thank you for the compliment Jaime. 1. I would sync your account with a free Evernote account so if anything happens to your tablet, it's backed up in the cloud. 2. I don't think you can to a flash drive 3. I'm not sure what you're asking here 4. I don't remember the importing process and I no longer have the app or pen to test that out. Sorry Hope that helps.
How do you continue writing in an existing page? like a day later or so. When I try to add to a to do list I made on one page, it shows up on my phone separately (even though it shows its the same notebook and page number), I don't see it written under the rest of my to-dos on that page.

No this pen only works with the mobile app for iOS, but Livescribe does have two other smart pens that might work for you, the Echo and Sky. Check out their site for info

I have evernote on my android phone and surface pro which works well. If I use livescribe will it translate to my android phone which I can then send to evernote and then also have it on my surface pro evernote
Its bluetooth 4.0 which theoretically should work at around 200 feet away. But the pen stores all the data so you can always sync it with the iPad later.
+David Jensen I have been using a LS3 with both my iPad and Samsung G5 for about 2 weeks. It will sync to both devices. After that, I use Evernote to sync the notes across different platforms, including Windows Desktop. The trick, so far, is to allow one of the Livescribe apps to perform the OCR, otherwise you get a PDF inside of Evernote.
Do you have to have the iPad/tablet with the pen whilst using it or can you take the notes away from them and then it load them later. (Obviously using the proper note book paper)

Thats all a matter of preference, but I personally think this is perfect for college students. I prefer to hand write things so I would use this device instead of trying to take notes on a tablet.

What happens if you have a Livescribe notebook for different classes but using the same pen, of course. How is the pen able to discern which notebook you are using?
I only had one notebook to test with, but I think either one of two things will happen. One, It'll some how automatically know that you're using a new notebook and it'll show up in the app as a new notebook, or Two you'll need to manually create a new notebook in the app and select it before you start writing. Either way, you only need one pen.

What happens if you want to go back to a previous page you've written on, after having written in newer pages? Like let's say you wanna go back to that first cat drawing after you did the second cat drawing. Would it re-update that page in the app? Prabha karan Wacom has graphic tablets with a pen that behaves as a mouse, but I don't think it offers android support. I think they do make the pen for the Galaxy Note 4 that might work with Android devices. Thats all I got :)
I believe that the data/writing would only get picked up by the pen through the infrared in the pen being process. Perhaps they could one day make a cartidge that uses wite-out instead of ink for erasures if the device is recorded (digitally transcribed) when the ink cartrdige is being pressed down as you write. Also, It seems that you could use white-out to resuse the paper except that it would cover the small squares/dots that the paper has which is what the infrared light uses to pick up the information when writing, so you probably wouldn't be able to use the erased spot for this technology, though you could use it as ordinary scap paper. Just my opinion from my understanding of this technology.
In freeking credible! I used mine for 9 months of school in 2010. Just pulled it out of the closet and surprise... no display. Sound and functions are working but if I can't see what i'm doing the pen does me no good! Going to contact them tomorrow.... see how much responsibility they are going to take.

Infrared, similar to laser mouse tracking. That's how it recognizes the dots and icons in pitch black.

+Janet Garcia You can simply sinc your iPad with your iTunes app and upload all of the notes, and recording, to our computer. That way you'll get to delete the old notes and make some space in your iPad for new notes and pics.

Yes, you don't need your device to be on while you use the pen. It'll record all the information on the pen and it'll sync up as soon as you launch the app.

I liked your explanation but I wondered why you didn't click on the star and the Numbers and show me how to sync the pen and use the audio record. All in all good but I waited till the end to see the rest.
Why does the Livescribe 3 not have a speaker like the previous Livescribe Pens? I think the speaker is a great idea especially if I don't have my ph.or iPad connected

Suppose I want to share my notes as they are without converting them to text but I want the title at the top of the page to be red and "bold"..

Thanks anyway! I'll try contacting the customer support of one of these apps (especially the ones compatible with Livescribe 3 such as NoteShelf). But in case you still owned the Livescribe 3 pen and you didn't mind checking out whether it is possible or not.... I would definitely appreciate!
In fact one thing about the Livescribe 3 pen is that you can't edit or erase your text or drawings. So I think that the opportunity to post-process the digitized notes would be useful.

Perhaps, as mentioned, with PhotoShop or Illustrator (and/or other editing software: Gimp, Inkscape, MS Paint, etc.) you would be able to do that.

+Bambi Jay I dont believe there's an android app for it. Your iPhone can be on silient. Spelling doesn't matter. Yes it'll record even if you're not writing.

My qeustion are:
1. What if you break/ or upgrade tablet, how to I access my notes?
2. Beside sharing online files as Cast-PDF (however you call it), could this be save independent on a flash drive and give to others to see even when not online?
3. Did you forget if it's possible to see text only as it plays without seeing entire page?
4. And Last, could you further explain the ability of importing and image to existing file. Lets see you want to import an image of an Atom and continue to record?

On Q3 , When you first open the pdf cast the whole page is viewed. It would be cool just see the content as it plays not knowing what comes next.

How do you continue writing in an existing page? like a day later or so. When I try to add to a to do list I made on one page, it shows up on my phone separately (even though it shows its the same notebook and page number), I don't see it written under the rest of my to-dos on that page.

No this pen only works with the mobile app for iOS, but Livescribe does have two other smart pens that might work for you, the Echo and Sky. Check out their site for info

I have evernote on my android phone and surface pro which works well. If I use livescribe will it translate to my android phone which I can then send to evernote and then also have it on my surface pro evernote
You need the app on an iOS device to work with the pen. From there you can send to Evernote

Hello Omar,what is the bluetooth range of the pen? Can it coonect to pc or ipad over 10 metres?
Its bluetooth 4.0 which theoretically should work at around 200 feet away. But the pen stores all the data so you can always sync it with the iPad later.

+David Jensen I have been using a LS3 with both my iPad and Samsung G5 for about 2 weeks. It will sync to both devices. After that, I use Evernote to sync the notes across different platforms, including Windows Desktop. The trick, so far, is to allow one of the Livescribe apps to perform the OCR, otherwise you get a PDF inside of Evernote.

My little cousin was asking about this device whether is it useful for university or not? or is it better to use a tab with pen feature?
Thats all a matter of preference, but I personally think this is perfect for college students. I prefer to hand write things so I would use this device instead of trying to take notes on a tablet.

What happens if you have a Livescribe notebook for different classes but using the same pen, of course. How is the pen able to discern which notebook you are using?
I only had one notebook to test with, but I think either one of two things will happen. One, It'll some how automatically know that you're using a new notebook and it'll show up in the app as a new notebook, or Two you'll need to manually create a new notebook in the app and select it before you start writing. Either way, you only need one pen.

What happens if you want to go back to a previous page you've written on, after having written in newer pages? Like let's say you wanna go back to that first cat drawing after you did the second cat drawing. Would it re-update that page in the app?

Prabha karan Wacom has graphic tablets with a pen that behaves as a mouse, but I don't think it offers android support. I think they do make the pen for the Galaxy Note 4 that might work with Android devices. Thats all I got :)

I believe that the data/writing would only get picked up by the pen through the infrared in the pen being process. Perhaps they could one day make a cartidge that uses wite-out instead of ink for erasures if the device is recorded (digitally transcribed) when the ink cartrdige is being pressed down as you write.
Also, It seems that you could use white-out to resuse the paper except that it would cover the small squares/dots that the paper has which is what the infrared light uses to pick up the information when writing, so you probably wouldn't be able to use the erased spot for this technology, though you could use it as ordinary scap paper.
Just my opinion from my understanding of this technology.
In freeking credible! I used mine for 9 months of school in 2010. Just pulled it out of the closet and surprise... no display. Sound and functions are working but if I can't see what i'm doing the pen does me no good!
Going to contact them tomorrow.... see how much responsibility they are going to take.
