You remind me of myself so much just that I'm so broke. I always wanted a sawmill my dream is to hit the lottery have a little ranch and actually have a sawmill and just build everything myself. hey won keep us posted on the open air drying process over time on this project. several of us im sure are right behind you with our new sawmill projects
I used pine both white and yellow for ship lap in my cabin. It was air dried for a few months to a year. We sanded it planned it and white washed it for the inside. It has shrunk on the width and not the length. I allowed for that with the router edge so it is not bad. The wife likes it so its good by me. I plan on doing a shed for tools, so I am glad you did the green wood. Btw, I plan on building a kiln this winter, who did you pattern yours after and what size is it? Oh, I cut my own wood on my sawmill, going into my 3rd year. It is enjoyable seeing the wood cut to size.
pubs.ext.vt.edu/content/dam/pubs_ext_vt_edu/420/420-030/420-030_pdf.pdf Hi Joe the above is the link for the solar kiln design. Mine is 7' x 18' on the outside measurements of the concrete slab that I used to build it. If the wife likes the work that is a wrap. LOL Sounds like you are having fun with your mill, I love seeing what comes out of the logs.
Hey Josaljo, That really looks good. I think the door idea is good and when I first started this video, my first thought was, how dark is it going to be on the inside. Are you planning to put a light in it or have you thought about putting the clear plastic panels on the top 2" or so like the plastic panels on your kiln and greenhouse? I know one end is open but if you have to set anything on the saw, it might be a little hard to see. I'm in my 60's and the old eye ain't as good as they once were so I think about these things.
Actually I made a small window the other day for myself and made 3 for my friends shed. I will be putting it in the back wall so I can see not only the mill, but the black bear coming up the valley behind me.
@@josaljo1 I put my tools in the back corner and on 2 shelfs on the back side walls. I stretch a tarp in opening to protect from weather. Have a nice day.
I recently purchased an lt15. How long did it take to get yours once you ordered It? Anyways nice work! It's really starting to shape up now. Keep us posted!

Thank you, and thanks for the comment.
Nice work.
So how much did they shrink lengthwise?
They swell and shrink with the weather actually. But not much more than 1/8 to a 1/4" lengthwise.

I used the poly panel to make the window I was mentioning. The door is a solid steel door.
Best intro ever
Thanks for the comment.
Josaljo, great job. what year is your ford backhoe. you have great videos.
I bought that thing new in 1983. Rebuilt it in 2009. Thanks for comment.
It reminds me of my shelter for my LT15 Wide.I did't put a door on it, did't need it ,because of the opening for the mill.
I have some tools on the door side of the mill that i reach easier.
