- EADS Innovation Works video animation of a distributed electric propulsion concept for airliners in which a single turbofan generates electricity to power multiple ducted fans. The aircraft takes off on turbofan and battery power. In the cruise, the engine drives the fans and recharges the batteries. On descent, aircraft glides and the ducted fans windmill, generating regenerative power to top up the batteries for landing. The concept is being studied with engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce
You have my permission to build this.
This makes perfect sense. Get it built.
They should use regenerative braking too.
How much cheaper can you make, sell and profit from this compared to if it was developed elsewhere, like this TV it was invented in two places at once. The best way it cant be copied is how it cant be done cheaper elsewhere.
How fast plane can flight with electric battery...!?1000 km/h..!?
Electric plus steam is the best of bothworl rewable and power
'
6 motors are too much eat engines and heavy weight...
better 4 engines are good enough
As a future pilot I would love to pilot that thing
The drag on this would be massive. Distributed power, whether electric, hydraulic, or Pneumatic, is the future, but this design is not going to work well or take advantage of the nature of distributed power.
I am working on a new engine that is distributed and it should allow NG, gasoline, Diesel, or battery. Efficiency should be 2.4 times better than a Lycoming or 60%. NG is $1/gallon. A 2 place airplane (roadable) could fly at 100 mph on 1 gallon/hr or 1 cents/mile. 4 cents/mile at 200 mph. The future is in the air, but that future is in door to door small personal craft. Why? TSA. Nobody wants to be molested to fly....just that simple. It will be cheaper to fly than drive and that is when traffic will go to the air. You cannot get there with electrics until the cost of grid power drops by 4-5 times....at least.
Look, when you use boundary layer control you can cut drag by around 30-50% depending on factors. When you have blown wing you can cut the wing area by 3-4 times and land at the same speed or land at 30-35 mph instead of 60 mph depending on goals. If you can land at 30 mph you can land on a road, thus door to door much easier.
All of this deals with pressures and air flow. Pneumatic combustion distributed power is the best way to go. Low weight, High power and waste products that aid boundary layer and blown wing, which electrics don't help much.
My engine is 6 inch diameter and 12 inches long, 84 hp at 28 lbs or so. There are up to 12 and tanks for NG included. It deals with the suction and blowing, all of which is required to to get the 4 times drag reduction. In the end it will be 3-4 times less energy to run my engine than a Tesla style motor system due to this advantage.
So, this concept shown in the video would fail big time. It shows a lack of understanding of what needs to happen.
He is Really Mad To RR Electric Aeroplane in Futuristic. So Awesome now.✨✨✨✨💯.
Fantastic!!!!!
let's do it
very innovative
This is awesome sauce.
Летаем на керосиновых вентиляторах, а будем на электрических. Прогресс.
It is inefficient to have an extra conversion phase.
Party pooper for no reason...
I guess it is an extra safety measure, redundancy of systems can help in that
Like hybrid cars !! , love the concept
waw...its the same principle I was thinking to put on a boat.A rear gas turbine to load batteries for electric turbines-underwater electric turbopropulsion.this is the future of transportation.period.It was impossible before because the batteries were too primitive, but now you have fast charging graphene batteries
Will flex solar panel work on an airplane. As they fly almost always above clouds amd closer to the sun they have maybe more light emergy capturing. Maybe some whone who knows?
The difference in distance to the sun at the surface of the earth and above the clouds is so small that it's irrelevant for solar power, it's just less obstructed by the atmosphere.
The way this video and model look scream "Art Project," but the science is still there and the idea of electrical propulsion shows alot of promise. Who knows though, maybe the aircraft could look amazing AND function well at the same time.
I was wondering if a clean fueled gasturbine
And where are they?😂
Wow ....
If you want to make it run better, let me know!!!
WindWisperer99 what can you do to make it better?
