Robbins MDM5000 rectangular boring machine

Circular TBM excavation is the common option but when a flat invert is required it is a machine to cut a rectangular profile that is needed. In addressing the need, Robbins has developed the MDM5000, a gripper machine that cuts a full width flat invert profile in hard rock in the first pass. Brad Grothen of Robbins discusses the attributes of circular hard rock TBMs and how they have been applied to the MDM5000 being used by the Fresnillo silver mine in Mexico to excavate flat invert roadways for immediate mine operation vehicles.
