Hi Sally , great makes, I love them all 😊 whenever I make a mistake my trusty sharpies come out. They do a silver one that you could colour that stray snap in to make it match the others a bit more, but your husband is right , it is hardly noticeable 😊
Great video. Thinking of the Ilford jacket now- been looking for a jacket for a while. I'm just making the deer and doe sirocco jumpsuit for a Xmas do but having to do a few adjustments!
Hi Sally, I love ALL these makes, they are amazing. I bought the Ilford jacket pattern some time ago but still not sewn it up, I've never made a jacket before and am a bit nervous. Yours is stunning, and has given me the inspiration to get mine done. Does the FPC tutorial also tell you how to bias bind the seams, or did you already know? Is there a tutorial you could recommend to learn this technique please. Thank you xx
Thank you so much! Honestly the Ilford is a great jacket to start with if you’re nervous- the instructions are great and it’s quite a simple construction as jackets go. Bias binding isn’t included in the instructions I have done it before but this is a good tutorial inthefolds.com/q-a-series/2021/sewing-bias-bound-seams xx
I really liked the idea of using bias binding to finish the edges in the jacket to reduce bulk- was that suggested and shown in the pattern or can you suggest another resource on how to do that? (Beginner sewer here 😊)
It’s a lovely finish! It’s not included in the pattern but I found this tutorial which I thought was helpful- I hope that helps inthefolds.com/q-a-series/2021/sewing-bias-bound-seams x
I dont think anyone will notice the different snap, it looks intentional. For the Ilford collar did you use the thick fabric for the under collar too? Any tips for getting it to lie flat in a bulky fabric?
Yes I did this time but in the past I have had a contrast cotton for the under collar. I grade the seams, clip the curves and press really well under a cloth and then use the tailors clapper which works so well for flattening wool x
Hi Sally. Love all your makes particularly the Style Arc cropped jacket and Marnie. I’m about to make a cream Marnie out of viscose and I’d dearly love to do the pintucks. Did you do them on your ivory viscose Marnie and how did they work out? I see that she doesn’t recommend viscose for the pintuck version but I’m an experienced sewist so thought I might be able to make it work. Diana
Yes I’ve done them on two of my viscose versions. They are undoubtedly more fiddly but still do-able. You’ll be fine I’m sure. Plus, I actually think viscose is more forgiving anyway as it drapes more when you’re wearing it 😊xx
Hi Sally, lovely makes❤. I was trying to find info on the metal snaps you used in Ilford but can’t seem to get past your ad. The different coloured snap back - design detail!
Thank you! Ah yes I’ve just checked and moved the link down now so if you click ‘more’ you should be able to see all of the links. Let me know if you’re still having trouble x
I make the smallest size based on 32” bust measurement. There is a lot of ease (12” for me) but I don’t find it too oversized for the boxy nature of the jacket. You could try sizing down though if you think there will still be enough ease for you based on the finished garment measurements 😊
Lovely lovely makes Sally. Liked them all. I love the Ilford too. I made one in a cord without closures and it’s ver useful. Can you use the prym tool for the snaps? I don’t get on with style arc patterns but I really love that jacket. I do have quite large biceps so I think it may not be for me though.
I think you would have to use the prym snaps in order to be able to use the tool but I might be wrong - I've not tried. I was surprised how narrow the jacket sleeves were - I'll be sizing up for jumper wear for sure! xx
The snap isn't noticeable at all. Do you think the Style Arc jacket could be lengthened to hit just below your bottom, bum? I love the design details of the jacket but not a fan of short jackets. As always, beautiful makes.
Yes I think it could however, there are no lengthen/shorten lines on Style Arc patterns so you do have to work out where to do that on the grainline. It can be done though x
Sally, your makes are always so beautiful. I absolutely love the Smith Jacket. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much xx
Your makes are absolutely lovely Sally, I’ll definitely be looking at more outer wear to sew after seeing yours. 🧵✂️🪡
Thank you so much! I’m really enjoying sewing outerwear this year (as you can probably tell) 😂
Love all your makes- you are incredibly talented!
Oh thank you that's very kind xx
Loved your video. As always super makes. I love the blouse that you are wearing. Great fabric. The Teddy is so cute. I might give it a try 💕
Thank you very much! The teddys are such fun to sew x
I didn’t notice the back button until you said! Xx
I suppose it’s only noticeable when you know - thank you!! Xx

Oh I’d not thought of that - great tip thank you! Thanks for watching xx
Your jackets are gorgeous. I love the Ilford pattern, must try lining it. You have done a beautiful job.
Thank you so much xx

Oh yes I bet that’s a difficult one to fit isn’t it? I hope you enjoy the Ilford if you make it x
With some of my husband’s high end shirts the bottom button was different to the others. Let’s go with design choice on your very unique jacket 😀
Haha yes I’ll go with that! Thank you and thanks for watching xx
Amazing work once again, Sally!! Especially the jackets 😊
Thank you very much xx
Everything is lovely. I bet you could use a rub and buff type of product to change the snap back color.
Ah yes that’s a good idea x
Merci ❤😊
Did not notice the snap being different color.
Perhaps it’s not as noticeable as I think x
Your woolen Ilford is divine
Thank you so much xx
Such lovely makes Sally! Would you mind doing a tutorial on how to add snaps, I’m ok with buttonholes but I’m scared of snaps? 🥴
Thank you! I have actually filmed the process so will get it up as a short soon 😊 x
❤❤❤
Gorgeous makes!!! I love them all. 💗💗💗
Thank you so much xx

Both jackets are a huge success. I’m interested to know how the snaps wear over time, does the finish rub off with wear or are they a real success?
Thank you! I'll have to let you know about that, I wondered the same actually xx
Love your Ilford make! I didn’t see a link to the snaps, please could you share? They look perfect.
Thank you! Sorry I’ve just updated the description to include them now 😊 x
Thank you 😊

@SecretLifeOfASeamstress Thanks Sally, yours looks great. Mine was very tricky to press and I wondered if perhaps it had a high poly content.
Is that a version of tab Marnie you are wearing, looks lovely ❤
Yes it is, I share more details in the video it's the plain version with no frills or tucks 😊 xx

Thanks Sally , that’s it sorted
I made an Ilford jacket but found it very oversized. Do you size down to get a good fit?

xXX👍👍👍
I like your content but commercials are a bit long.
You can always skip past if they aren’t for you x
I have a granddaughter on the way. What an excuse for making toys
The perfect excuse! Enjoy sewing them xx
