I like the idea of Baraka being the Drax of M1K big formerly bad guy jobbers. They want to help and do the right thing despite doing immense harm before. They lost everything they loved and cared for but still want to do good. They are both bawld, and finally they may secretly be Bave Dautista.
It really makes me happy to see someone be so passionate about a story i found so middling. I wanted to enjoy the MK1 story a lot more than i did. & Hearing your thoughts gives me a greater appreciation

Before I didn’t have any opinions on him, being one of the main jobbers he was, didn’t hate or a big fan of him. In this game tho, both design and his character. I was pleasantly surprised to see him have a chapter. He not be my favourite still but wow is he high up there. Btw fantastic job with the poker animation, was so much fun, so happy it’s back. 💚

The takeaway from those stories at the end (Baraka's included) could also be this: you will face hardships in life, but if you don't despair and keep pushing forward while staying true to yourself, eventually things will get better, either through circumstances outside of your control or your own actions. A part of the Bible story you mentioned that I like is that, even though now poor and having his own troubles, Job still helps the people around him with the little he still has, and when those people he helped get back on their feet, they band together to aid HIM in return. Which is a beautiful display of mutual selflessness, aid and how your actions and character can have a positive effect on the people around

Also man 17:48, seeing Gosha again reminded me of how reading the chapters that featured him reminded me of my uncle. Someone I was close to as a kid, and he always treated me nicely.
The fact they went with the path of making Baraka a sympathetic character, it gave him so much more opportunity for him to get much needed character development. I got to feel for Baraka as an actual character instead of him being just a jobber like he was previously. He's now extremely relatable, and I think they gave him some really good attention in this iteration.
God I love the act 2 squad so much. Like all of them expect Johnny are side characters but even he is a side character in this game. It feels like a random group of characters that wouldn't normally be seen together just trying to get home and its so fun. No Raiden, Scorpion, Lui kang but a Blind guy, a cocky guy, Johnny and jobbers all just stumbling their way onto this conspiracy and again they all play off each other well, not super serious but not super goofy.

This is something similar to the treatment Balrog/Mike Bison/Boxer from Street Fighter has been received. When he debuted, he was only a brute jobber who was with the bad guys just for the easy money. Then SFIV came out and they made him more sympathetic: freeing Ed, and teaching him how to defend himself (although their chemistry is like "Dr. Dre and Eminem"), changed the direction of his character. The way Ed talks about him in SFV and SF6, is what has changed in our now lovable brute. Baraka was now redirected (wanted not a Kahn, but a Parlament under Kitana Kahn) and rewriten as someone which lost everything and still swings his scicssor blades against his destiny (yeah, I'm making a pun on how cheap you can be mashing that in MKII), and inspire others, to play his cards even if he has a shitty hand (pun intended). Didn't expect the Job part. Good video, Scalie guy from KK in a Wheelchair.
For some reasons, whenever I do a fatality on baraka. I suddenly feel bad for the dude. He just screams in pain that it feels too human and it makes me heartbroken and tearful to hear him be in pain, and im glad that you respect baraka for his deeds and how much of a reedemable character he is.

I don't think it's about having your nationality changed because of being inflicted with Tarkat, but rather being exiled and stripped of your nationality and/or rights due to being deemed a monster by others
Baraka is an interesting psychology case of abuse: when children are abused, either by people or by family, they either grow up to have either muted empathy and heightened selfishness or heightened empathy and muted selfishness. In other words, either they grow up to be psychopathic and selfish or empathetic and self-sacrificing. And while we’ve heard of the former case plenty of times through our famous serial killers and evil Supermans, we haven’t seen the latter case as often. And personally, I love how this is explored through Baraka. Despite losing everything, or perhaps because he lost everything, he saw other people like him going through the same thing and decided he didn’t want them to suffer through the same despair he did. So he’ll do what he can to be the colony’s hope. He’ll fight like hell to get them aid and comfort. We see this in his ending, too, where he is able to persuade Mileena, the new queen of Outworld, to give them official aid. He had finally got his people what they had so desperately needed as a second option. I bet he would readily be the type to volunteer as a test subject for a cure, so long as the person running the experiments is personally vetted by himself and is verified to be a good person. Yeah, Baraka is a good character with tragedy done right.
Someone i know said that the group they formed by the end of chapter 5 and the beggining of chapter 6 (baraka, kung lao, jhonny, kenshi, reptile and ashrah) 6 Has a dungeons and dragons energy i cant help but vibe with. XD
I think one of the things a lot of people forget is that Baraka is rather intelligent and well-spoken. Even as far back as MK4 when he points out in his ending to Quan Chi that they're ruling a realm with nothing in it. Baraka and Mileena have always sat in my mind as characters with the potential to do good if given the opportunity. And I'm glad Liu Kang has given them that opportunity.
The best way NRS can fix the "Why baraka does this?" Plot hole: Kung Lao: I still Don't understand why did you help us. Baraka: My last hope is being remembered as a helper, not as a monster

And personally, I love how this is explored through Baraka. Despite losing everything, or perhaps because he lost everything, he saw other people like him going through the same thing and decided he didn’t want them to suffer through the same despair he did. So he’ll do what he can to be the colony’s hope. He’ll fight like hell to get them aid and comfort.
We see this in his ending, too, where he is able to persuade Mileena, the new queen of Outworld, to give them official aid. He had finally got his people what they had so desperately needed as a second option. I bet he would readily be the type to volunteer as a test subject for a cure, so long as the person running the experiments is personally vetted by himself and is verified to be a good person.
Yeah, Baraka is a good character with tragedy done right.

I think one of the things a lot of people forget is that Baraka is rather intelligent and well-spoken. Even as far back as MK4 when he points out in his ending to Quan Chi that they're ruling a realm with nothing in it.
Baraka and Mileena have always sat in my mind as characters with the potential to do good if given the opportunity. And I'm glad Liu Kang has given them that opportunity.

Sonic speaking about a manga and being all wholesome is great and then when he diverts to *the bible* and ad immediately playing fucking killed me
