WORKOUT: CJ Albertson's Wild 22-Mile Long Run Before 2022 Boston Marathon (

  • CJ Albertson doesn't train like other professional marathoners. In the lead-up to the 2022 Boston Marathon, he won the Modesto Marathon in 2:12 (despite being led off-course by the lead bike - so his 26.2 split on his watch was 2:10) and he did this super hilly 22-miler with two weeks to go until the big race. Last year, the Brooks Running-sponsored pro led the men's elite race for 21 miles and built-up a two-minute lead on the field. He ended up finishing 10th overall in 2:11:44.
    What does he have in store for this year's race? This workout and his training on Strava clearly prove he's fit. It's one of the deepest elite fields in the 126-year history of the Boston Marathon but it's a race that has provided countless surprises in recent years. Could CJ be one of them?

    CJ is basically the budget version of Galen Rupp. Galen has the Nike money machine to give him access to cutting edge recovery aid techniques. CJ reads that science and finds a way to implement it without all that funding

    • @banksj54
      @banksj54 2 года назад +5

      I wouldn't go that far b/c Galen has the same elevation machine is his house. I wouldn't compare him to Galen budget or not because Galen is way more accomplished. But I DO think CJ with the right coach and entering more races could be that achieved, he is truly a beast

    • @jazzyjay4595
      @jazzyjay4595 2 года назад +7

      @@banksj54 you clearly don’t understand my comment. Galen is always doing something that’s on the cutting edge of research and study. Altitude masks before they were popular, underwater treadmill before Alter-G’s were a thing, blood flow restriction, sauna’s. Galen was always one of the first guys to implement things. He also has the giant bank of Nike behind him. I’m making the comparison to CJ because CJ uses things that are known to work, doesn’t have the giant money pit behind him, and finds his own way to make it work. Hence, the “budget” Galen Rupp. Ye, Galen also uses altitude machines, but he has the bubble that he puts around his bed so that he sleeps in the simulated high altitude. He rarely ever trains on the treadmill using that. Galen has the resources to go train at a high altitude camp for as long as he wants. CJ doesn’t always have that luxury, so he trains on a treadmill using that high altitude simulator. I’m not comparing their accomplishments. I don’t even know where you got that from.
