Adam, There are so many YT channels showing skilled pilots flying great planes well, but there isn't a lot of actual education. Its more just stunt flying.. This video is one of the BEST teaching videos I've seen. Pure gold... I look forward to the next series and learning from your outstanding channel.

Great video sir 👍 I enjoy a slice of humble pie 🥧 . I remember about 18 or 19 years ago having the pleasure of meeting Ben Storick , I believe he was 9 years old at the time and just learning to fly. My son was 10 years old and those two became friends. And I became friends with Ben's Father . We met at Gibson Jr high-school , in Las Vegas Nevada. Where we would practice and we were all 4 novice pilots. The boys were learning very quickly. As fathers we wanted to help them develop so we kept buying and building better and faster airplanes. This went on for around 2 years . The boys now were very good and the adults used to get back off the field to watch these two go at each other racing. Ben had a fast flying wing and my son would fly a F-22 Stryker that I had modified to go over 100 mph . It was amazing to watch these two young men fly around that field just a few feet apart and put on a show for everyone there . The difference was my son was very boastful and Ben was extremely humble. I believe that's one of the reasons that Ben Storick is still today becoming one of the best pilots in the world . Ben began flying helicopters back then and became extremely good at it . I'm sure you have heard of Ben Storick. And I'm also sure you have never heard of my son . I have tried to teach my son that humility is great attribute to one's character. I'm still trying 😪. I became a better person from observing Ben and his fathers relationship. Thank you sir for your wisdom and the slice of pie .
Tim, thank you so much for the kind words and the story. Your son will get there. It takes some more time than others. I am not super familiar with the top heli pilots, but I checked out a video of Ben and he is impressive! I am, however, very familiar with the top airplane pilots (3D guys). All of the top guys over the span of the last decade have all had a few things in common. Jace "The Ace" Dussia is the top pilot now, it was Daniel Holman before him, and Joe Smith before that. They were all young when they became the top dog (teens). They all had/have a strong bond with their parents and mom and dad take them to every event. One parent is the camera person and films all the flights for an active RUclips channel. They were all humble and approachable at events. They were all sponsored by either 3DHS or Extreme Flight. And one more thing was prevalent, and I am not trying to offend if you don't subscribe to this idea, but just sharing it and my thoughts on it. They were/are deeply faithful and had a belief in and relationship with God. In my mind, if a person truly understands what that means, and respects the sheer amount of love, leadership, sacrifice, and power God represents...its hard not to be humble.

Every other being is a caused being . Everything in this world was caused , and is not necessary. There is only one Necessary Being that Every other contingent being is contingent upon. Which begs the one question everyone should be asking themselves > why is there something , rather than nothing ? There didn't have to be , But there is . The answer to me is simple. A necessary, eternal uncaused Being wanted to cause it . There is no other way that everything you see could have come into existence. Because nothing can not produce something. We are similar to God , but we are different from God . We have something that God doesn't have . We have potential , God doesn't have any potential. We have the potential not to be . God can't grow He is already as big as He can get . People should really expand there image of God , most see him as a large angel. God can not learn, because God already knows everything. But we are different from God in our potential. We are contingent beings . God is not a contingent being. I could go on for hours sir , with all that I have discovered about God . A life time of thinking of question and then searching for the answers. Today I have more questions than answers. But one thing I know for sure . I am not a necessary being . And that there absolutely has to be one . Every other reason for the existence for life or being , ends in an infinite regress . Because cause and effect is a truth . But if you start now and go backwards the only logical conclusion is there had to be a first cause . And because you cannot cause yourself because you would have to exist prior to yourself and that is impossible. And that is true of God . God could not have created Himself because He would have had to be prior to Himself. Therefore He would not be God . And we know there is a God because we are here , when we did not have to be . God is here and has to be Necessarily. Sorry sir . I don't get many opportunities to share the truth , because most people have become numb to it . Everyone thinks they can have , and will even say it out loud " I have my own truth " thats another story lol 😆 but again easily argued. I hope I didn't offend you in any way , if so was never my intention.
Tim no offense taken. I'm all for the truth, and I get there is a lot of delusion in this world now. You take a deep, somewhat complicated dive into this. Nothing wrong with that, whatever convinces a person of Gods existence works for me. That said, the warm, calm embrace of true faith...at least in my mind only reaches its full potential when we stop asking questions about it. I don't have more questions than answers anymore. I understand that God is the ultimate entity. As a mere mortal man I can't even come close to matching his intelligence, his ability to judge, create, reason, and love. I mean he's GOD...creator of the heavens and the earth. The fact that there are things we can't understand is...well...understandable. We're not on that level, and punishing ourselves trying to figure out everything what makes God tick and why he does things or allows things we can't comprehend is futile. I just have faith...real faith. No questions, no skepticism. I am totally and wholly subordinate. I leave that which is beyond my comprehension to the one who truly has that under control...God. That gives me peace. I only control that which is within my capability. Anyway...my point is simply this. If you want your son to be humble...teach him about God. Stay on him, it may take hundreds of attempts, but when he gets it finally...really gets it...humble will just happen. I'm sure you do this...just keep it up, and have faith. God's plan for him is what it is, and of course...it must be right.

And He is getting a little more humble . And I'm sure that he will find his way . As far as me and taking a deep way to truth . I can honestly say I just love learning and discovering more and more about God . I'm not searching to disprove the existence of God . I have a personal relationship with Him . And like any good relationship you want to know their likes and dislikes and their thoughts , wants and listen to them when they speak. Not letting your mind wonder to the future or the past , but staying right in the now . Thankfully he left many of His thoughts and wants in His written word . I can tell from your written words a lot about your character. And when I listen to your videos I can see it in your eyes . You are a good man , and I am thankful for meeting you from a common interest , Flying

I have been away from flying for 20 years and started back about a month ago. I flew for 20 years before, but my older wiser self wants to be best I can be, not the best at the field.

I'm one of those RC pilots that got into the hobby late in life - about 2 1/2 years ago, I'm 78 now. I don't push myself very hard. I seem to get as much fun out of the hobby from tinkering, building and bantering with the guys at the club I joined last year as I do from flying. A profile 3D plane looks like it might be fun to mess around with even if didn't do much to improve my skill level. Thanks.

coming from the FPV side from flying quads to planes i do crash less now as my beater got into my parts bin (hot glue couldn't cure it anymore). great advice and I look forward to the next episode.

Far as myself i started off with a simulator and then after using the simulator for a bit i then started off with the smaller planes ( park flyers). I am new to the RC world so it's been a challenge for me for sure, i just started on flying the bigger planes now. Thanks for a great video and explaining it nicely, ☠Semper Fi
Awesome instruction, as someone who is a loaner and park flyer I really depend on channels like yours to open up my flight envelope. Having recently started watching full scale flight instructional videos (more prevalent than RC model) on RUclips really has me re thinking a lot of what I considered to be base skills I was already comfortable with. For me the learning is as much fun as the flying, keep up the good work 🙏👏
I just stumbled across this channel and felt great respect from the start, not least after 30+ years of training in aviation. One of the first things my instructors taught me, when I first started flying, was that you steer the aeroplane with the rudder, the ailerons are just there to make it more comfortable. When it comes to knowledge, learning and teaching the best wisdom is from a researcher at General Electric in the 60’s. “If you can not explain what you do, so that a 12-year old understands it, then you are a charlatan”. I reckon this video lives up to that.

Loads to take on board Adam, reading how to do things is one thing, watching flyers like Michael Wargo can be hard to follow as well but your presentation and explanation skills makes so much more sense. I think this a must watch video for all pilots no matter their skill level, well done 👍

Quite right about cross channel control , aileron / rudder . Here in the UK I always tell the newcomers or even more experienced flyers to go and fly indoors ? Duh . When you fly in a gymnasium the one thing you learn very quickly is steering with the rudder , if you dont you will repeatedly be flying into the wall . If you fly using the " bank and yank " aileron then elevator you probably hit the wall . The rudder turn is instant input turn just use a bit of OPPOSITE aileron to keep things flat . I have friends who had reached a plateau with their out door flying , they came indoors , learnt a few new skills eg rudder turn went back, outside put into practice the new skills and transformed their flying . Nuff said . Super video .
I remember growing up with a 4 channel trainer. My dad used to make me fly whole flights with just the rudder. I still tend to line up for landing and still try using the rudder,
Brilliant video Adam, I totally agree, you can never stop learning. We do have to put ID on every pane we fly. My aim is to keep practicing, always polishing the skills. 👍🏻
Top notch instruction on every level, from philosophy to flight demonstration. And it hit home, too! I bought a Super Cub to get back in the hobby after 15 years away. Thought it would be easy after lots of experience with more aerobatic planes like the Super Chipmunk and Laser 200. I crashed on the second take off. Had to eat humble pie. It's still my most challenging plane to take off and land in a scale manner. And that's after five years competing in IMAC, from Basic to Advanced.
Thank you very much! I get it..I had a buddy have a similar experience with my J-3 Cub. He is a high level 3D pilot, so I handed him my TX and said give me a nice, slow, scale takeoff (On pavement BTW). To be honest I expected him to do it just fine, but he ground looped it twice. He asked what he was doing wrong and it took me a minute to figure it out. What stumped him turned out to be what he's used to. With a Lazer, Edge, etc. the rudders are so big and have so much throw you only have to breathe on them to make corrections on takeoff, but with the scale Cub you have to dig much deeper into the corrections with the rudder. Once we figured that out...he was fine.
Great tips sir...yes, I agree with you sir some rc pilots whenever they get crashed..they will stop flying...For me, crashing is part of my hobby...we have to learn from our mistakes...start from simple planes

I fly 3d and enjoyed your video and agree 100 % what you said especially about looking at yourself if anything goes wrong. The scale take offs are definitely something I'll incorporate thank you for that. Harriers really do make your left stick skills better especially figure 8's and inverted.
Great video! I found the taildragger takeoff technique useful. I usually try to get the tail up early as my first aviation was full size, well before RC. This usually leads to some lefts and rights before lift off! Can't wait to try the proper RC technique now ...

Absolutely excellent, Adam! 👍 (BTW - I think it is the best way for those who are serious about the hobby!) Way too many people nowadays say that there isn't a "proper" technique. They claim that there are many, many "proper" ways to fly. I disagree. Just like how basic math questions have only one correct answer - flying is similar. There aren't 100 correct ways to fly a given airplane. BTW - that was a sweet, ruler-straight takeoff with the Corsair - one of those planes that many consider to be a real handful on the ground! And I agree - way too many RCers nowadays lack left-stick skills. As I like to joke - they think the rudder is for taxiing & they regard the throttle as an on/off switch.

I actually thought about you and your dad when I was flying that routine.
I tip stalled and induced a spin on my first ever edf. I pulled up elevator until it was in the ground. I was then taught from some club members how to recover from a spin and now, god forbid it does happen, I recover without thinking. Practice makes perfect and sometimes you just have to learn the hard way.
Interesting, description and very nice use of the elevator as a "differential air foil" makes the model look much more authentic during lift off. NOTE: Lost track with the Spitfire at 17:54 🙂 ... nobody's perfect.

Good video Adam thank you! That's exactly how I learned. I'd smoke 3-4 batteries flying 3D every time out. When the wind dies down in the evenings id fly the Eratix. That's a tough little trainer. I really enjoy flying 3D not too!

Great video sometimes becoming a better pilot, is just being pushed out of your comfort zone. This last weekend we had a big event, and I’m not big on flying with multiple people, but we had 4 big planes doing 3D me being one of them. Some how got me to do things I wouldn’t have done otherwise, and now don’t mind flying with multiple people.
Very true...that is why we recommend practice, and a "beater" plane. Learning anything new takes a pilot out of their comfort zone. You hung in there and flew even though you were nervous with the other planes. That is great! Some rc pilots however, quit at the first sign of real nerves creeping in. The beater's sole purpose is to hopefully take some of the nerves away...at least enough so they will fly, try new skills, and practice anyway.
Cheers Adam and Heidi, some awesome tips in that video!! I will try to improve my scale take offs as quite often all my take offs are like a STOL competition!! I'm OK with the rudder I think as I use it a lot flying the Helie's!! And I refrain from flying with an aileron rudder mix so as I input the rudder myself!! I think this is going to be an enjoyable and popular series for you both 😀👍
Thanks Ian! Yeah man you seem to be fine with rudder. I like STOL!! Lol. I think a lot of what you do is to make sure the grass can't grab and turn them over...which makes sense. That said I bet that technique might work on your field with some of your planes.
Lots of useful information. My problem is finding a place to fly. I can walk out my door and fly...over a small pond with alligators and bordered by tall trees. I've put all but 1 of my planes in the drink but luckily a night of drying out and no problem. So it makes me overly cautious. Taking off from the street is sometimes an option but cars and pedestrians limit use.
I fly full-scale aircraft and alot of us real-life pilots use your take-off technique on taildragger pretty much exactly i.e ease power up while keeping tail down till a certain airspeed especially in crosswind conditions
Personally i was able to advance my flying skill leverls quicker than my fellow pilots with roughly the same amout of stick time is because when starting out flying rc i focused more on take offs n landings to look as scale as posible and that taught me those left stick skills in a hurry.....Good Pointers Adam...
Hey Adam. Just watched this again and still enjoy it. I know you're getting busier as your channel grows but I hope you continue with this series because I think there's a real demand for it. Watching planes flown to the max is entertaining but not really useful to a weekend rc flyer like me. I know you've touched on the subject in alot of videos but I think a detailed look at landing techniques for both trycycle and tail dragger would be well received. Most people can drag a plane into the air one way or another, but landing, hmm 😁 Anyway hope the channel keeps growing for you. I think it's pitched just right and you realising not everyone is an accomplished 3d pilot nor wants to be is appreciated 👍

I just finished my first kit build (Piper J-3 Cub ofc) and have been somewhat dreading transitioning from tricycle to taildragger, so that segment was especially inspiring for me to take that maiden!

Great show Adam, thanks a lot! I've recently started to fly jets (Freewing Avanti S) and I'm having a great time with it. But sometimes it happens that the plane stalls (gently) on the top of a half reverse cuban eight, for instance, when I pull the elevator a bit too much and speed is too low, I guess... Maybe an instructional video about jets flying techniques (avoiding stalls) could be a good idea for many of us? Luca thanks very much for the kind words! I love the Avanti S...probably my favorite sport jet. If you are really slow at the top, try rolling it over slower. Sometimes when you're very slow a big aileron input can cause an off camber situation on the wing with the down aileron...and that wing will stall. You can also climb at a shallower angle of attack so you have more speed left at the top before you roll her over. Hope those suggestions help my friend! We may be able to do a video on jet flying at some point for sure. Thank you for the suggestion.

Great video with lots of useful info especially for someone like me, a self taught mediocre pilot at the moment. One question, do you believe a UMX size plane is good as a beater and to learn on? I find the larger planes more intimidating to fly and try new things on. Thanks and keep up the great videos!
Thanks very much! Glad this is helpful. You could use a UMX, but they are fragile. Maybe look for a beater at a swap meet or hanging in a hobby shop. Get something park flyer size that is used and inexpensive. The worse it looks the better...lol. You don't want to be in love with it, you don't even have to like it...you just want to fly the snot out of it without being so nervous.

Is there any possiblity of me getting back in ? A while back I suffered a cerebral stroke which left my left-side weak and partially paralyzed. My main handicap now is my left arm & hand; but more in the hand. By-the-way; luckily I am right-handed. Is there any help and/or hope for handicapped Radio Control ( RC ) aircraft pilots ?
My friend so sorry to hear about your troubles. That said, I'm with you, time to move forward. I absolutely think it's possible. There are plenty of planes that can fly with just right stick (aileron or rudder/elevator). You may be able to do what we do when we are going to hand launch a plane. We bring the transmitter up to our face and use our chin to advance the throttle. Then lower it and fly. Maybe start with something slow and easy like a UMX Night Vapor. Get some help at first, but if you are willing...I'd bet you can figure it out.

Also getting back to it somehow will be the best therapy. Once aviation is in your system, it never goes away ! By-the-way; your channel is very good and professional. Unlike a majority of YT channels on the topic, your channel on aviation topics is definitely for mature and professional audiences. It's also the first I have seen where full-scale aircraft are related to RC aircraft. Well done ! 😊
Thanks very much for the kind words my friend. Now, back to you... You're so right. Once you fly, there's no going back. You may also want to get RealFlight (The sim from Horizon Hobby). That would be an excellent way to experiment and see what is going to work for you. If you crash, no sweat, hit reset and go again! Once you decide to go for it...then don't half try it...really go for it. You WILL find a way if you don't get discouraged and give up...so don't give up. Period. I believe you can do it. I don't know if you are a faithful person, if not...thats ok. I'm faithful enough for both of us. Heidi and I will keep you in your prayers. John that is the airframe and all electronics except for the RX and battery. The E-flight Eratix is a good option too, it comes as a bnf and can be assembled in minutes. About the same price point.
Well John, value is in the eye of the guy forking out the dough. In my opinion, well worth what it will teach you...and then some. They are fun to fly once you get used to them. A 3D EPP profile is a different flying experience than any other model out there, and there is nothing else that can do what they do the way they do it. If you're looking for another opinion, or testimony if you will, watch the "SteffenRC" channel. He has several videos on his Crack Yak he bought after watching our video. You'll be hard pressed to find anyone that has a Twisted Hobbys 32" Profile that doesn't swear by them.

Where we would practice and we were all 4 novice pilots. The boys were learning very quickly. As fathers we wanted to help them develop so we kept buying and building better and faster airplanes. This went on for around 2 years . The boys now were very good and the adults used to get back off the field to watch these two go at each other racing. Ben had a fast flying wing and my son would fly a F-22 Stryker that I had modified to go over 100 mph . It was amazing to watch these two young men fly around that field just a few feet apart and put on a show for everyone there . The difference was my son was very boastful and Ben was extremely humble. I believe that's one of the reasons that Ben Storick is still today becoming one of the best pilots in the world . Ben began flying helicopters back then and became extremely good at it . I'm sure you have heard of Ben Storick. And I'm also sure you have never heard of my son . I have tried to teach my son that humility is great attribute to one's character. I'm still trying 😪. I became a better person from observing Ben and his fathers relationship. Thank you sir for your wisdom and the slice of pie .
Tim, thank you so much for the kind words and the story. Your son will get there. It takes some more time than others. I am not super familiar with the top heli pilots, but I checked out a video of Ben and he is impressive! I am, however, very familiar with the top airplane pilots (3D guys). All of the top guys over the span of the last decade have all had a few things in common. Jace "The Ace" Dussia is the top pilot now, it was Daniel Holman before him, and Joe Smith before that. They were all young when they became the top dog (teens). They all had/have a strong bond with their parents and mom and dad take them to every event. One parent is the camera person and films all the flights for an active RUclips channel. They were all humble and approachable at events. They were all sponsored by either 3DHS or Extreme Flight. And one more thing was prevalent, and I am not trying to offend if you don't subscribe to this idea, but just sharing it and my thoughts on it. They were/are deeply faithful and had a belief in and relationship with God. In my mind, if a person truly understands what that means, and respects the sheer amount of love, leadership, sacrifice, and power God represents...its hard not to be humble.

Every other being is a caused being . Everything in this world was caused , and is not necessary. There is only one Necessary Being that Every other contingent being is contingent upon. Which begs the one question everyone should be asking themselves > why is there something , rather than nothing ? There didn't have to be , But there is . The answer to me is simple. A necessary, eternal uncaused Being wanted to cause it . There is no other way that everything you see could have come into existence. Because nothing can not produce something. We are similar to God , but we are different from God . We have something that God doesn't have . We have potential , God doesn't have any potential. We have the potential not to be . God does not have the potential not to be . We have the potential to learn . God does not have the potential to learn . We have the potential to grow . God does not have the potential to grow. God can't grow He is already as big as He can get . People should really expand there image of God , most see him as a large angel. God can not learn, because God already knows everything. And God can not commit suicide or be killed, because he has to exist necessary. That's what makes Him a necessary Being. So my friend you can see , that we are like God in our being . But we are different from God in our potential. We are contingent beings . God is not a contingent being. I could go on for hours sir , with all that I have discovered about God . A life time of thinking of question and then searching for the answers. Today I have more questions than answers. But one thing I know for sure . I am not a necessary being . And that there absolutely has to be one . Every other reason for the existence for life or being , ends in an infinite regress . Because cause and effect is a truth . But if you start now and go backwards the only logical conclusion is there had to be a first cause . And because you cannot cause yourself because you would have to exist prior to yourself and that is impossible. And that is true of God . God could not have created Himself because He would have had to be prior to Himself. Therefore He would not be God . And we know there is a God because we are here , when we did not have to be . God is here and has to be Necessarily. Sorry sir . I don't get many opportunities to share the truth , because most people have become numb to it . Everyone thinks they can have , and will even say it out loud " I have my own truth " thats another story lol 😆 but again easily argued. I hope I didn't offend you in any way , if so was never my intention.
Tim no offense taken. I'm all for the truth, and I get there is a lot of delusion in this world now. You take a deep, somewhat complicated dive into this. Nothing wrong with that, whatever convinces a person of Gods existence works for me. That said, the warm, calm embrace of true faith...at least in my mind only reaches its full potential when we stop asking questions about it. I don't have more questions than answers anymore. I understand that God is the ultimate entity. As a mere mortal man I can't even come close to matching his intelligence, his ability to judge, create, reason, and love. I mean he's GOD...creator of the heavens and the earth. The fact that there are things we can't understand is...well...understandable. We're not on that level, and punishing ourselves trying to figure out everything what makes God tick and why he does things or allows things we can't comprehend is futile. I just have faith...real faith. No questions, no skepticism. I am totally and wholly subordinate. I leave that which is beyond my comprehension to the one who truly has that under control...God. That gives me peace. I only control that which is within my capability. Anyway...my point is simply this. If you want your son to be humble...teach him about God. Stay on him, it may take hundreds of attempts, but when he gets it finally...really gets it...humble will just happen. I'm sure you do this...just keep it up, and have faith. God's plan for him is what it is, and of course...it must be right.

And He is getting a little more humble . And I'm sure that he will find his way . As far as me and taking a deep way to truth . I can honestly say I just love learning and discovering more and more about God . I'm not searching to disprove the existence of God . I have a personal relationship with Him . And like any good relationship you want to know their likes and dislikes and their thoughts , wants and listen to them when they speak. Not letting your mind wonder to the future or the past , but staying right in the now . Thankfully he left many of His thoughts and wants in His written word . I can tell from your written words a lot about your character. And when I listen to your videos I can see it in your eyes . You are a good man , and I am thankful for meeting you from a common interest , Flying

I'm one of those RC pilots that got into the hobby late in life - about 2 1/2 years ago, I'm 78 now. I don't push myself very hard. I seem to get as much fun out of the hobby from tinkering, building and bantering with the guys at the club I joined last year as I do from flying.
A profile 3D plane looks like it might be fun to mess around with even if didn't do much to improve my skill level. Thanks.

Far as myself i started off with a simulator and then after using the simulator for a bit i then started off with the smaller planes ( park flyers). I just stumbled across this channel and felt great respect from the start, not least after 30+ years of training in aviation.
One of the first things my instructors taught me, when I first started flying, was that you steer the aeroplane with the rudder, the ailerons are just there to make it more comfortable.
When it comes to knowledge, learning and teaching the best wisdom is from a researcher at General Electric in the 60’s. “If you can not explain what you do, so that a 12-year old understands it, then you are a charlatan”.
I reckon this video lives up to that.

Quite right about cross channel control , aileron / rudder .
Here in the UK I always tell the newcomers or even more experienced flyers to go and fly indoors ? Duh .
When you fly in a gymnasium the one thing you learn very quickly is steering with the rudder , if you dont you will repeatedly be flying into the wall .
If you fly using the " bank and yank " aileron then elevator you probably hit the wall .
The rudder turn is instant input turn just use a bit of OPPOSITE aileron to keep things flat .
I have friends who had reached a plateau with their out door flying , they came indoors , learnt a few new skills eg rudder turn went back, outside put into practice the new skills and transformed their flying . Nuff said .

Top notch instruction on every level, from philosophy to flight demonstration. And it hit home, too! I bought a Super Cub to get back in the hobby after 15 years away. Thought it would be easy after lots of experience with more aerobatic planes like the Super Chipmunk and Laser 200. I crashed on the second take off. Had to eat humble pie. It's still my most challenging plane to take off and land in a scale manner. And that's after five years competing in IMAC, from Basic to Advanced.
Thank you very much! I get it..I had a buddy have a similar experience with my J-3 Cub. He is a high level 3D pilot, so I handed him my TX and said give me a nice, slow, scale takeoff (On pavement BTW). To be honest I expected him to do it just fine, but he ground looped it twice. He asked what he was doing wrong and it took me a minute to figure it out. What stumped him turned out to be what he's used to. With a Lazer, Edge, etc. the rudders are so big and have so much throw you only have to breathe on them to make corrections on takeoff, but with the scale Cub you have to dig much deeper into the corrections with the rudder. Once we figured that out...he was fine.
Great tips sir...yes, I agree with you sir some rc pilots whenever they get crashed..they will stop flying...For me, crashing is part of my hobby...we have to learn from our mistakes...start from simple planes

Great video! I found the taildragger takeoff technique useful. I usually try to get the tail up early as my first aviation was full size, well before RC. This usually leads to some lefts and rights before lift off! Can't wait to try the proper RC technique now ...

Absolutely excellent, Adam! 👍 (BTW - I think it is the best way for those who are serious about the hobby!) Way too many people nowadays say that there isn't a "proper" technique. They claim that there are many, many "proper" ways to fly. I disagree. Just like how basic math questions have only one correct answer - flying is similar. There aren't 100 correct ways to fly a given airplane. BTW - that was a sweet, ruler-straight takeoff with the Corsair - one of those planes that many consider to be a real handful on the ground!
And I agree - way too many RCers nowadays lack left-stick skills. As I like to joke - they think the rudder is for taxiing & they regard the throttle as an on/off switch.

I tip stalled and induced a spin on my first ever edf. I pulled up elevator until it was in the ground. I was then taught from some club members how to recover from a spin and now, god forbid it does happen, I recover without thinking. Practice makes perfect and sometimes you just have to learn the hard way.

Interesting, description and very nice use of the elevator as a "differential air foil" makes the model look much more authentic during lift off.

Good video Adam thank you! That's exactly how I learned. I'd smoke 3-4 batteries flying 3D every time out. When the wind dies down in the evenings id fly the Eratix. That's a tough little trainer. I really enjoy flying 3D not too!

Great video sometimes becoming a better pilot, is just being pushed out of your comfort zone. This last weekend we had a big event, and I’m not big on flying with multiple people, but we had 4 big planes doing 3D me being one of them. Some how got me to do things I wouldn’t have done otherwise, and now don’t mind flying with multiple people.
Very true...that is why we recommend practice, and a "beater" plane. Learning anything new takes a pilot out of their comfort zone. You hung in there and flew even though you were nervous with the other planes. That is great! Some rc pilots however, quit at the first sign of real nerves creeping in. The beater's sole purpose is to hopefully take some of the nerves away...at least enough so they will fly, try new skills, and practice anyway.
Cheers Adam and Heidi, some awesome tips in that video!! I will try to improve my scale take offs as quite often all my take offs are like a STOL competition!! I'm OK with the rudder I think as I use it a lot flying the Helie's!! And I refrain from flying with an aileron rudder mix so as I input the rudder myself!! I think this is going to be an enjoyable and popular series for you both 😀👍
Thanks Ian! Yeah man you seem to be fine with rudder. I like STOL!! Lol. I think a lot of what you do is to make sure the grass can't grab and turn them over...which makes sense. That said I bet that technique might work on your field with some of your planes.

Lots of useful information. My problem is finding a place to fly. I can walk out my door and fly...over a small pond with alligators and bordered by tall trees. I've put all but 1 of my planes in the drink but luckily a night of drying out and no problem. So it makes me overly cautious. Taking off from the street is sometimes an option but cars and pedestrians limit use.

I fly full-scale aircraft and alot of us real-life pilots use your take-off technique on taildragger pretty much exactly i.e ease power up while keeping tail down till a certain airspeed especially in crosswind conditions

I’ve even found SOME planes you absolutely MUST use rudder/left stick. And yes to beaters, I bought my Maule M7 used for $100 solely for this purpose.
Yep, and all benefit from having that rudder/throttle skill.
Personally i was able to advance my flying skill leverls quicker than my fellow pilots with roughly the same amout of stick time is because when starting out flying rc i focused more on take offs n landings to look as scale as posible and that taught me those left stick skills in a hurry.....Good Pointers Adam...

Hey Adam. Just watched this again and still enjoy it. I know you're getting busier as your channel grows but I hope you continue with this series because I think there's a real demand for it. Watching planes flown to the max is entertaining but not really useful to a weekend rc flyer like me. I know you've touched on the subject in alot of videos but I think a detailed look at landing techniques for both trycycle and tail dragger would be well received. Most people can drag a plane into the air one way or another, but landing, hmm 😁 Anyway hope the channel keeps growing for you. I think it's pitched just right and you realising not everyone is an accomplished 3d pilot nor wants to be is appreciated 👍

I've recently started to fly jets (Freewing Avanti S) and I'm having a great time with it. But sometimes it happens that the plane stalls (gently) on the top of a half reverse cuban eight, for instance, when I pull the elevator a bit too much and speed is too low, I guess... Maybe an instructional video about jets flying techniques (avoiding stalls) could be a good idea for many of us? Luca thanks very much for the kind words! I love the Avanti S...probably my favorite sport jet. If you are really slow at the top, try rolling it over slower. Sometimes when you're very slow a big aileron input can cause an off camber situation on the wing with the down aileron...and that wing will stall. You can also climb at a shallower angle of attack so you have more speed left at the top before you roll her over. Hope those suggestions help my friend! We may be able to do a video on jet flying at some point for sure. Thank you for the suggestion.

The Crack Pitts is fine...good flyer. Just make sure he built it straight. If they are wonky and warped they don't fly well.

Great video with lots of useful info especially for someone like me, a self taught mediocre pilot at the moment. One question, do you believe a UMX size plane is good as a beater and to learn on? I find the larger planes more intimidating to fly and try new things on. Thanks and keep up the great videos!
Thanks very much! Glad this is helpful. You could use a UMX, but they are fragile. Maybe look for a beater at a swap meet or hanging in a hobby shop. Get something park flyer size that is used and inexpensive. The worse it looks the better...lol. You don't want to be in love with it, you don't even have to like it...you just want to fly the snot out of it without being so nervous.

Is there any possiblity of me getting back in ? A while back I suffered a cerebral stroke which left my left-side weak and partially paralyzed. My main handicap now is my left arm & hand; but more in the hand. By-the-way; luckily I am right-handed. Is there any help and/or hope for handicapped Radio Control ( RC ) aircraft pilots ?
My friend so sorry to hear about your troubles. That said, I'm with you, time to move forward. I absolutely think it's possible. There are plenty of planes that can fly with just right stick (aileron or rudder/elevator). You may be able to do what we do when we are going to hand launch a plane. We bring the transmitter up to our face and use our chin to advance the throttle. Then lower it and fly. Maybe start with something slow and easy like a UMX Night Vapor. Get some help at first, but if you are willing...I'd bet you can figure it out.

By-the-way; your channel is very good and professional. Unlike a majority of YT channels on the topic, your channel on aviation topics is definitely for mature and professional audiences. It's also the first I have seen where full-scale aircraft are related to RC aircraft. Well done ! 😊

You're so right. Once you fly, there's no going back. You may also want to get RealFlight (The sim from Horizon Hobby). That would be an excellent way to experiment and see what is going to work for you. If you crash, no sweat, hit reset and go again! Once you decide to go for it...then don't half try it...really go for it. You WILL find a way if you don't get discouraged and give up...so don't give up. Period. I believe you can do it. I don't know if you are a faithful person, if not...thats ok. I'm faithful enough for both of us. Heidi and I will keep you in your prayers. John that is the airframe and all electronics except for the RX and battery. The E-flight Eratix is a good option too, it comes as a bnf and can be assembled in minutes. About the same price point.

Well John, value is in the eye of the guy forking out the dough. In my opinion, well worth what it will teach you...and then some. They are fun to fly once you get used to them. A 3D EPP profile is a different flying experience than any other model out there, and there is nothing else that can do what they do the way they do it.
If you're looking for another opinion, or testimony if you will, watch the "SteffenRC" channel. He has several videos on his Crack Yak he bought after watching our video. You'll be hard pressed to find anyone that has a Twisted Hobbys 32" Profile that doesn't swear by them.
