    Great reaction. The timing of the entrances and the syllables of lyrics follow the Fibonacci Sequence (1,1,2,3,5,8, etc..) also known as The Golden Ratio. The meaning of the song is up to interpretation but to me it means that we should set aside our preconceptions of life, grow as an infant grows and reach out for those random moments of life that lead to self awareness and personal growth. Hence - "... ride the spiral to the end, we may just go where no one's been".

    Yes, Tool makes more than just a song. I like to describe it as painting with music and sound. Dig deeper, you won't be disappointed.

    Literally one of their best songs - as mentioned below, a tribute to the Fibonacci sequence. According to Danny Carey (the drummer), the time signatures in the chorus go from 9/8 to 8/8 to 7/8 - 987 is the 16th number in the Fibonacci sequence. Danny said they originally wanted to name it 987. I may have said it before, but you need to listen to Lateralus (the album) beginning to end with good headphones. It will change your life. If you wish, I'll be sure to pack the CD down to Sacramento for Aftershock.

    Not going to lie, Chief.... I have no idea how you don't have 50k subs at this point. You are probably the most musically empathetic and honest "reactors" I've come across. I hate using that term, because at the end of the day it's all about consuming and appreciating the art, and it's clear that you feel the music and it comes through in your videos. Keep doing your thing, man - your videos are great. Hope you get back round to Tool sooner or later- their catalogue is outstanding and they have some of the most unique, thought-provoking and musically mind-bending music out there. Cheers!

    My first time watching you...and you've reacted to my #1 all time favorite song! It's such a joy for Tool fans to watch new Tool fans being born...taking their first steps on the journey. You started off big and bold diving into this as only your second selection! You mentioned Danny in this and I'm wondering if you've seen the live Drum cam of Danny playing their song Pneuma in concert?? If you haven't- do yourself a huge favor and react to that one next!

      Aw, welcome to the channel, my friend! :) I hope I did your fave song justice haha! It totally had me speechless for a second there, I'm really enjoying the Tool energy so far, as scary and overwhelming as their library is, I'm excited to keep going!

    Greatest band ever! I was a casual TOOL listener when my buddy drug me to a concert. That was my 1st time hearing Lateralus. It was almost religious. More TOOL 🔧 Spiral Out!

    I feel you. This is my favorite band (and album) of all time. For 20+ years lol. The first time I ever heard it, I swear I had a spiritual experience. After the first time, I would just lay in bed picking out all the parts and layers. I'm still finding new things. 😊

    Culling Voices from Tool's last album is my favorite atm. The whole Fear Inoculum album became my favorite of theirs after giving it a few listens.

    Dude! You need to check out Invincible and Descending from Tools latest album "Fear Inoculum"(2019). I know many Tool fans will say that Lateralus is the best song, and honestly it might be, but I think Invincible and Descending are strong contemporarys.

    My dad's generation had Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. I grew up listening to these great rock bands. And then came Tool. This is the Led Zep/Pink Floyd of our time. The attention to detail, creativity, the musicianship, the songwriting, the lyrics, the production, all is at a top level. Many say you don't just listen to Tool. Tool is an experience. And it became my favorite and most influencial band, for over 20 years now. Welcome to the club!

    I was a metal head when I was a teenager and my bf at the time loved Tool but I couldn't get into them and found I preferred A perfect circle. Fast forward 18 years to 2020, I saw the Okeefe music foundation cover of 46 & 2 and was blown away. Needless to say, I deep dived Tool and now love them and Puscifer too.

    This song uses the fibanocci sequence. The golden ratio. This mathematical equation is in nature all around us. Pine cones, sunflower seeds, most floweres have 3.5.8.13 or 21 petals. Those are all fibanocci numbers. The number is the sum of the 2 preceding numbers. It was discovered as early as 200 bc in Indian sanskritt poetry syllable lengths. It goes as such 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55,89,144......
    There's a video on this about how tool used this to structure lateralus. It deserves a follow up video on you reacting to that. Good stuff Man 🤘

    Since this song gave you the feels, do not listen to wings for marie and 10,000 days, it will have the tears and snot running out of you, just like most of us, especially when you learn it's about Maynards mother, Judith Marie who suffered an aneurysm and was wheelchair bound for 27 yrs or 10,000 days, these songs are incredibly powerful, you have been warned!

    The syllabic phrasing of the lyrics trace the numbers that begin the fibonacci sequence, the golden ratio. Furthermore, the time signatures sort of revolve around 9/8/7 which could be argued to have a spiraling feeling. They didn't have to do that, but they did lol. Personally, I don't try to count out their songs even though I'm a musician, they just flow so natural in their weird signatures it's a real achievement

    Hey there! New sub, just found your channel 20 minutes ago. Just finished watching this video, and if I may, I'd like to suggest that you sit with these songs, any songs that bring you to a place of introspection, not just Tool, though they'll do that a lot for you, and (on your second, third, or eighth listen) just write down little bullet points of what comes to mind in that moment. Don't worry if it doesn't make sense or sounds goofy, just write it down and when you're out of that song's scope, look back at all you wrote and try to sit with those words and find the reason why they showed up in your mind. That's enlightenment, in my eyes. I think each and every one of us has the answers within, we're just often too afraid to go looking for them or quite simply don't know where to start.
