Amazing display of the food web here and how smart these animals are knowing exactly where to hunt! Was also very impressed with the fish knowing their best bet was hiding near the hippos, even if it was still fatal for many of them.
I mean, you say that, but it only seems smart because you are so detached from a normal working life in the wild. Animals can be smart for sure, but knowing where to hunt would be the most basic natural learned thing for anything surviving in the wild lol. It's not shocking that things growing up in the wild learn where to consistently eat...
They didn't know. It is similar with evolution. The ones that were away from the hippos, got eaten. The ones that were close to them, survived. That's why it shows as if they knew. The specific group was favored by the circumstances.

Wow everything in the ecosystem really does serve its purpose 😮 the hippos need water to stay cool. The fish use the hippos as shelter. The pelicans and eagles eat the fish as food. The hippos get annoyed and end up killing some birds. Then the crocodiles feed on the remains! Pretty amazing!
And what's fascinating is that they're all fighting for resources because they recognize the scarcity of the resource, the same reason why humans wage wars
And peace and quiet they'll get. Hippos are usually safe in the water, they are too large for the crocodiles to dare mess with. The pelicans aren't always going to be so lucky, but those crocodiles are lucky with how large a group of pelicans keep landing in the water

That's exactly what the hippos are thinking. They are safe from the crocodiles because they are too big to be messed with, and are tempermental too. I saw another video of a crocodile trying to attack a hippo but it was just too big a challenge for it due to its size and how furociously the hippo was able to fight back. You don't mess with the hippos, even the crocs
