    The behavior of a few of the fish should be concerning. The Kohaku hanging at the bottom with collapsed fins for sure has a problem. A couple others have collapsed fins too and aren't moving around the way they should be. I had an Asagi acting like that after quarantine so I moved it back to quarantine. Treated with salt and prazi. It's doing fine now.

    People should watch Japanese Koi farm vids ...you did the same they do. And you said they came from a filthy pond so well done.
    Theres some smashing Koi in there and after you do their parasite treatments and keep on top you'll do grand....l dont often see a nice Karasu (black koi) but l think your one is really nice.

    On that extra outlet I would add a shower filter 100% and possibly a big blue as them little chlorinators need to be ran so slow on water changes just keep a eye on them koi seen a few flashing in that video mate

    I’ve noticed my fish acting like these in the past and had them scraped due to them flashing same as yours and they had flukes . I would be surprised if you had chilodonella too . It’s likely the fish had them when you got them and now you have moved them to your father in laws and now his pond has been affected so he needs to get scrapes done too . Never give fish to other people till you know they’re 100% I’ve learnt that the hard way . Amazing looking fish tho a £100 microscope is worth it’s weight in gold when you have thousands £ worth of koi

    May be better to invest in a big blue for water changes..that smaller one still let chlorine/chloramine in or basically drip it in
    You could also put a bakki shower in..that would help a lot
    I made the mistake of overstocking
    But seems like you got a plan

  • @smithmiesterman
    @smithmiesterman 3 года назад +2

    ive heard a saying that you dont keep koi but you keep water!. I have found over the years that the size of the pond is irrelevant but the filters must be big enough to cope with fish load rather than pond size!. When people visit a koi dealer look at how small there holding tanks are!, but then look at the size of the filters running the well overstocked tank. 1000 gallon pond with good filters will handle a large amount of fish load hence i would make another moving bed for ammonia and add a bakki with biohome media for nitrates hence the nitrates will be the main problem causing algai etc!.

    • @smithmiesterman
      @smithmiesterman 3 года назад

      @@MicksFishUk you have a moving bed already! Just buy a big container at some fittings and make a bigger one with an airstone and k1 or helex which evers cheaper ;) 100 LTRs of k1 micro will handle probably 20 adult koi ;)

    Don’t know what it is about the hobby but famous bitchy comments tend to be :
    1. That tank’s too small for those fish.
    2. What are your water parameters?
    3. You do know that that fish can grow to a gazillion inches.
    4. Those fish look sick to me……

    People who says that there's too many fish in that pond are usually the people who owns a 2ft tank with 10 goldfish init. Pond is fine with all them kois in it. Just need to get your biological media to mature. Your koi doesn't look too well. Add salt. It will help alot
