Sandy Shocks was a pain to hunt for, I legit had to run right up to like half of them and stare at their bodies for a few seconds before I found the golden one

Mimikyu, it may look easy to spot when you look at it's shiny. But actually hunting one is extremely difficult due to most of the shading/lighting causing it to look similar to its shiny. I have a shiny Tadbulb, I was paranoid about missing one because Tadbulb is one of my favourite Pokémon, so I didn't want to hunt, but I actually managed to find one randomly in the wild and I was so happy, he's just a cute little guy
I almost failed a shiny Tynamo from an electric sandwich raid because it looks really similar to its regular form and it was underwater. Thankfully, my Quaquaval, Josuke notified me by not killing it.
I would like to know what you named it, and I wonder where it is now and which evolution stage it was in. my first shiny was actually one of those tauros, found it by random in a random group near a watchtower, full odds.. tbh i was getting fed up with them jumping me, so the fact didn't settle in til well after i'd caught it, still haven't found another to this day..
I was shiny hunting a dondozo and got it in like the first five minutes, so I decided to continue, it was torture having to stare my eyes out just to see if the slowpokes were shiny, but about TWO minutes I saw a slowpoke that looked weird, knowing its shiny I ran up to it, and after a Velez’s ran up to me I got in battle with the slowpoke and it was shiny.
I’ll never forget my shiny slowpoke, I was trying to compete the dex and I saw a slowpoke (which I didn’t have) so I go up to it and low and behold it’s a shiny
they need to fix that. also i was running around got trapped in a battle and said "that scyther looks like it got sunburned on it's neck. is it alright?" it was a shiny, i caught it, but i was surprised.
As someone who ended up finding one deerling is pretty hard to notice as outside of a slight color change the big difference is it’s yellow flowers become pink which is very small on its design
I found a shiny magnemite in the snowy area and the only reason I noticed it is because despite having awful vision due to ridiculous nearsightedness, I have two really effective qualities for shiny hunters; Very keen eyes for the absolute slightest difference between color shades and extreme paranoia that it's a shiny and not just the games lighting and the reflections. The magnemite to me had an ever so slight gold-looking spot on it but other than that looked completely normal. In the end, my brain won and instead of trying to catch and register a delibird, I yeeted Koraidon into the magnemite and sure enough, that ever so slight gold tint on its very reflective model indeed was not just the lighting and my brain being funky about it being a different color. So it ended up being my second shiny in the game despite being so insanely unnoticeable, lol.
More of this, PLEASE. There are a LOT of shiny Pokémon that are obnoxiously hard to tell. I think I missed out on a full-odds Flamigo recently bc I couldn't tell at first...
Yeah, with such terrible shinies this generation, the lack of visual stars before encountering them and the sound effect really end up hurting the hunts. It's worse that Pokemon can spawn behind you after you pass a section so that makes it even worse.
I found a Charcadet recently, and decided to auto battle it. All of my Pokémon just came back, and I couldn't figure out why, as they were all roughly 40 levels is above it. I got a little miffed, so I just ran into it, and as soon as the battle started, the Charcadet had the shiny sparkle! Literally the only difference was it's eye color, being yellow instead of blue. No wonder I couldn't tell.
One more shiny that’s very easy to miss is Tynamo. The little squiggly line on the side of its body barely changes color, and the same goes for its second evolution, Eelectrik. However it’s final evolution, Eelektross has a nice minty green color. I am not sure if Eelektross has an over world spawn, but I do know it spawns in Tera Raids, so you probably can’t miss it there if it’s shiny. It was conveniently the first shiny I got of my play through since I ran into it on accident. Other than that, it’s very hard to notice. Good luck to everyone hunting for it!
I'm literally doing laps of a beach hatching Masuda Froakie eggs as I'm typing this and EVERY TIME I go past a Skiploom surrounded by a group of Hoppip, I JUMP thinking it's a Shiny Hoppip. One day I'm going to miss one thinking it's just Skiploom again.
After seeing TamaHero's video on the subject, I kind of get the lack of a sound (you're often riding your legendary, so running too far and knowing you made it despawn would be devastating) but the lack of the overworld sparkles from Let's Go baffles me. I had to double-take my shiny Buizel when I found it.
I have encountered 6 shinies in s&v but only caught 5 because, i was doing a random grass tera raid, it was a flittle, my dad points out that its pink layer is green, i think its just a form or gender thing, i didnt catch it, a while later i check my trainer profile, I had one more shiny emcounter but i didnt know when, it hit me like an 18 wheeler when i realised there werent any shiny stars in tera raids. I missed a flittle
I was SO lucky to find a Shiny Tauros!! I’m not kidding, I was running alongside a group of Tauros and then I noticed this one darker Tauros and I thought "Wait is it a glitch? It’s not supposed to be this dark" then I confronted it and it was revealed to be a Shiny one! That was an amazing moment I’ll never forget!
Best difference for slowpoke, I found is the color of its tongue. Which is a noticeable darker shade of red. Otherwise the tone for the rest is too subtle in most instances.
As someone who has a shiny belibolt: I genuinely nearly missed the shiny tadbulb and only happened to back track to a small group of them for the purposes of grinding when I found my shiny because of my gardevoir refusing to battle it in auto battles.
The first shiny I've ever encountered was a Veluza. I had never seen a Veluza before then. If I hadn't figured to challenge it anyway (I was on land and it was trying to get to me from the water, to no avail), I'd have missed it entirely. My second shiny was a Garganacl, and I nearly skipped it because I thought it was just the lighting.
I nearly walked past a shiny Komala because obviously, the first thing you look at is the actual Pokemon, not its prop. Thankfully, the birch white is eye catching. I’m just praying to Zekrom that the community is exaggerating how hard it is to tell shiny Gastly apart. I’ve spent the last few days looking for one (I expected it to take a while, it’s a full odds hunt), & the idea that I could be searching literally forever while accidentally passing shinies by just because I’m trying to spot the color difference instead of autobattling EVERY Gastly is honestly… ghastly. Can’t wait for the shiny Zorua hunt… maybe I’ll just Masuda Method that one.
My first ever shiny was a Crabrawler in Scarlet that I named Puncher. I had another Crabrawler but I saw the red claws and wanted to be sure, and then said “OH MY GOD IS THAT SHINY!?” Learned from too many RUclips videos not to pass up the chance and caught it without doing any damage to it.
I love the changes over Legends Arceus who's totally ridiculous jingle combined with hunter's Outbreak exploits etc made Shinies actually more common than the Commoners. It didn't feel like an Acheivment at all, and part of the Whole joy in these newer games is observing the Wildlife just that little bit closer.
I actually found a shiny Persian tonight. I still had trouble figuring out what changed in the coloration after looking at it and the regular form side-by-side lol!
I missed a full odds shiny shroodle on the STARTING PATH because I was playing the game blind, and didn't want to run into it. Haunts me to this day. 💀💀
I actually got a random shiny slowpoke in the wild, and was able to tell that it was shiny even in the rain. That's my crowning achievement as a shiny hunter tbh
Not to mention Corvinight in Area Zero. The lighting there is NOT a help at all because EVERY Corvinight that spawns looks shiny before it starts flying.
Nintendo upon developing some of the best and/or most requested Quality of Life fixes in the franchise: man can't wait to get rid of this after one game
I dearly wish they had kept the overworld sparkles they introduced in PLA. Another thing i wished they kept was being able to move around the battle field during a battle.
I hunted tauros, slowpoke and sandyshocks and was really anxious cause i thought i would miss them easily. only to dicover that you can see the shinys really well, no matter how bad the lighting may be
as a shiny hunter, i feel this so much. there are a good handful of Pokemon that either barely look different when shiny or are hard to tell apart due to lighting differences. they get a little easier to spot if it's amongst a group of the same Pokemon, because then you have something to compare it to. thankfully i'm weirdly good at spotting the harder shinies even when i'm not hunting for them. like, i've caught shiny Slowpoke and Elekid because i noticed them randomly in the overworld. but imo, the absolute worst offender is Tynamo. it's TINY, only spawns in water or in dark caves, and is very light blue instead of white. i only found one because i accidentally ran into one while i was hunting an Eelektrik outbreak. no way i would've been able to spot it otherwise😅
Mikey trust me everything on this list is still easy if you consider the existence of shiny tynamo. (not only are they smaller than flabebe most of the time but they only spawn in water and the shiny barely changes and most of them go underwater so you dont see them and most pokemon except for varoom wont autobattle them)
I found a shiny Slowpoke but I noticed the slight discoloration after I did a double-take. I caught another one in an outbreak but I had to keep the other one on hand for comparison. Another one that can be hard to miss is Tynamo!
As a colorblind person, I HATE that they got rid of the overworld sound and sparkle. It was a huge help in Arceus.

my first shiny was actually one of those tauros, found it by random in a random group near a watchtower, full odds.. tbh i was getting fed up with them jumping me, so the fact didn't settle in til well after i'd caught it, still haven't found another to this day..
I guess the extra hunting was worth it
Also Flittle, almost missed that lil guy LOL
I’ll never forget my shiny slowpoke, I was trying to compete the dex and I saw a slowpoke (which I didn’t have) so I go up to it and low and behold it’s a shiny
I’m color blind so some Pokémon become a pain to hunt. Wish they would’ve kept the notification from Legends
I've seen so many slowpokes off coloured like the shiny in the dark I just thought it was lighting💀
One thing that is HILARIOUS about this game. Is Sometimes the Shiny Pokémon come AFTER YOU!
In Soviet Paldea. Shiny hunts you!
Maushold in the corner laughing as it’s basically identical
Me with 1 gym badge and a level 30 goomy: so youre telling me all the slowpoke I tried to auto battle were SHINY???
I hope that when the next pokemon game comes out and you try to run, it will say, "Are you sure? This is a shiny Pokémon!".
they need to fix that. also i was running around got trapped in a battle and said "that scyther looks like it got sunburned on it's neck. is it alright?" it was a shiny, i caught it, but i was surprised.
Let’s hope the rumors are true and the shiny sound effect comes back for ZA 🤞
When I was playing, I found a slowpoke and I thought it would be cool to use on my team, but it was actually a shiny
for how badly they wanted to remove sparkles, they really just didnt wanna give Pokémon actual shinies
Thank you for posting this as it saved me from missing a shiny slowpoke :)
Yeah, with such terrible shinies this generation, the lack of visual stars before encountering them and the sound effect really end up hurting the hunts. It's worse that Pokemon can spawn behind you after you pass a section so that makes it even worse.
SV already got rid of enough features from previous games, but the shiny sound effect from LA is one that should be here. Such a stupid change
Copperajah is pretty difficult to tell shiny apart from regular. I only found one because I accidentally crashed into one😂
Hoping to see more shorts, these were neat
After seeing TamaHero's video on the subject, I kind of get the lack of a sound (you're often riding your legendary, so running too far and knowing you made it despawn would be devastating) but the lack of the overworld sparkles from Let's Go baffles me. I had to double-take my shiny Buizel when I found it.
One time a tad bulbs tail was stuck in a mountain and I was like “ oh buddy you need help? “ ran into him and he was shiny
Pokemon SV really makes you FEEL like that Crustle eyed trainer while shiny hunting
I missed a full odds shiny shroodle on the STARTING PATH because I was playing the game blind, and didn't want to run into it. Haunts me to this day. 💀💀
how did you know it was full odds? just curious
(not only are they smaller than flabebe most of the time but they only spawn in water and the shiny barely changes and most of them go underwater so you dont see them and most pokemon except for varoom wont autobattle them)
You missed the one that deserves the garchomp of the year award, tandemous as it is very small and the change is almost imperceptible.
I found a shiny Slowpoke but I noticed the slight discoloration after I did a double-take. I caught another one in an outbreak but I had to keep the other one on hand for comparison. Another one that can be hard to miss is Tynamo!
I know this is like 8 months old but u forgot the impossible taundemous and mausehold
I ran into one of those dung beatels on accident and it turned out to be a shiny
