- People often wonder how long an EV battery will last. You probably hear people spouting 'Your EV battery will need a replacement in a couple years!' But that's not the truth about EV battery lifespan at all. Electric car batteries last a LOT longer than what you might think; EV battery longevity measured in the hundreds of thousands of kilometers--maybe even more; even after taking degradation into consideration.

Honestly once I got my Tesla, I dread the rare occasion I have to drive a gas car. I'd never poo-poo someone's choice of personal transportation, but honestly it really hits different
I bought a Tesla recently. It’s the best car I have own and i couldn’t imagine going back to an ICE vehicle now.
One correction.
"80%" isn't "considered the end of life".
It's only the warrantied life.

"80% End of life" is like saying "Fuel consumption level high compared to a new unit!!! NEW ENGINE!!!"
Good video and shows the potential, I think the issues aren't going to be the useful life of the battery but more the point you picked up on premature failure of a component which then means the battery stops working. Manufacturers currently replace the battery rather than repair which is the wrong way round, hopefully here in the UK battery repairers will increase. If it was an ice vehicle it would be like replacement the entire engine because an Injector went which would be crazy!

For what it's worth, Kyle from Out of Spec bought that Coda fully electric that was sitting on the lot for ten years, and as far as I've heard the battery isn't too worse for wear. Also lots of older Tesla Model S milling about
@@MikeInTheWoods New chemistry is likely to be different. Maybe better, maybe worse. I don't think we can assume long cycle life guarantees long calendar life - I hope it does though. I'm guessing we're good for 15Y. If we reach 20Y that is good enough IMHO.
I don't think we will stop tweaking batteries or know the battery lifespan within my life time.

Why do tesla use kilometres instead of miles? We all know why.
@@redmed10 I live in Canada... if you're in the US, it uses miles. And you can change it in the settings
And people cry about 4% degradation 🤦♀🤦♂🤦
My degradation is at ~5%, and hasn't changed much in a few months. which is right in line with the data that suggests you'll see a 5% drop in your first year, then it levels off and doesn't degrade much at all for the remaining life of the car
@@MikeInTheWoods especially that this 5% equals to what, 10-15 km of range? Suddenly everyone drives over 1000km every week.... at least in Europe this sort of anxiety is very visible.
I went from 438 km EPA listed on a full charge when new, down to 416 km. It's negligible
@@MikeInTheWoods Indeed, I agree with people who just say: Stop worrying enjoy the car. But I also noticed that the biggest enemies of EV's are people who will never be able to afford one
