I don’t disagree but I also blame a lot on just bad writing. Bridget is the same girl who started puking when she found Brooke with Thorne and a few episodes later she does a complete 180. With the way she found out about her mother’s betrayal and how she reacted, her just forgiving Brooke and getting over it like that makes absolutely no sense.

It’s funny, Rick and Bridget could both see their mother for what she is when they were children but as adults they were completely under her spell. Surely it should have been the other way around.

This is where Bridget _finally_ finds out what she should have suspected months ago. And the way it happens is an _inversion_ of the "intercepted letter" trope that @Nick has been writing about on several occasions.
In the original version of the trope, a message from one person to another is sent intentionally, and then deliberately intercepted by a third person who prevents the message from reaching its intended destination. Here, we have a message sent _unintentionally_ from Brooke/Deacon to Bridget through the baby monitor. And the message was not deliberately being intercepted by a third person but _unintentionally made possible_ by the _recipient_ of the message - Bridget herself who gave Brooke the baby monitor.
It also shows how while the original "intercepted letter" trope is an example of Design, this inverted version is an example of Fate (the dichotomy of Fate vs Design being another one of Nick's themes).
Great twist on the trope Annie! 👍 I was thinking of writing something about this but I went with another (similar) theme in the next episode. You’re right that this is a bit different because the message isn’t intended for anyone and isn’t intercepted by a third party so it’s more like Bridget prying into Deacon and Brooke’s minds. But the presence of the baby monitor - a mediating device - makes it similar to those letters and recordings we’ve discussed before.
@@NewYorkNick0607 yes, I just read your excellent essay in episode 3820! I think that lately, the show has been providing us with some material that's actually worth analyzing (mainly because of key scenes _finally_ being given to Susan Flannery, Kimberlin Brown and Jennifer Finnigan, but also because there seems to be a little more direction in the writing now compared to the last few months).
I love this analysis! The ironic symbolism of the baby monitor struck me as well. The baby monitor is the mechanism for “breaking up” Bridget/Brooke and Bridget/Deacon, just as the baby it is supposed to serve will do that.
I also thought the writers were very clever in having Erica/Mary wistfully sigh, “how could anything bad happen to you in a family like this,” when *right in front of her* is the instrument that will reveal just how hurtful and screwed up this family can be to each other.
@@FayeIL I wrote in the next episode that it's Bridgit's own present that's the device to reveal the secret. Thought that was a nice touch by the writers, and they usually don't do much great work these days lol.

What a pity. Here we have Bridget thinking that her relationship with her mom has become so much more and that they have become friends (even when her mother during the past months kept secrets and went to Europe without telling Bridget), how she now really knows her mom so well, while her mother still has that awful secret to confess and how she has betrayed her daughter's trust, that she still is in love with Bridget's husband.
Well, well, well. The fun begins! Random thoughts:
*The irony of Deacon calling Whip oily when Deacon perennially looks greasier than the buckets of KFC he probably consumes on the daily. . .the absolute gall of him to call Whip dishonest, untrustworthy, and without integrity . . .his disgusting need to go sniffing around Brooke like a dog in heat the moment she’s alone . . . don’t think I need to elaborate further except to say he disgusted me more in this episode than in any other, which is saying something at this point.
*Lmao at Megan saying earnestly “the girls” at the office bought Brooke a nice gift because she always treats them well and remembers their birthdays. Literally nobody believes that, including Megan. Brooke doesn’t seem to be able to remember she has two kids at the same time, much less care about her employees.
*However much they paid Susan Flannery to keep a straight face when she told Brooke that she was a good mother who put her children’s needs first, it wasn’t enough.
*I really like Jennifer Finnegan and think she knocked it out of the park overall during this storyline. That being said, I thought her facial expressions were sort of off and unconvincing when she hear Deacon say he loved Brooke. Of course, who could say what a natural reaction to that news might look like? 😂
I agree on Bridget’s reaction. I went back and re-watched it and she _did_ overact. It seemed like she didn’t quite know exactly how to act out her shock and disbelief with those e ye movements all over the place. It could’ve been done better, even by a soap-level actress.
I can say the same about Stephanie’s reaction when she learned that Brooke was Eric’s mistress. Unpopular opinion, but I didn’t think it was SF’s best work.

As for Steph, I respectfully have to disagree. I go back and watch thoss 2 epis when she learns about Brooke not only as Eric's mistress, but also pregnant for him, bc that's some of the very best acting and range of emotions, to me.
I thought the same about Brooke remembering all the birthdays of "the girls at the office" (what girls?). If Brooke remembers anyone's birthday, it's probably because Megan writes it in Brooke's calendar.

Stephanie pushed Eric to get custody of Bridget and Rick after Brooke's mental breakdown and that Brooke was unfit as a mother.Nowadays Stephanie praises Brooke as being a *good mother* that always has puts her children's needs over her own.🤣
