Cologne was my first ever trip outside the US back in 2007. I really have fond memories. I remember being terrified of the cable car over the river from the Zoo on the west to the Thermal Bath on the East. I did really love the baths though!

Nice, I took that cable car many years ago.

I dont understand why the city did not rebuild more of the old architecture.

    • @Supermatsch

Good question! They wanted to rebuild the city as fast as possible that's why many beautiful old buildings where gone. Only the old town was rebuilt as it looked before the war. It's a shame because before the war cologne was way more beautiful, almost like Paris and Vienna.

@@Supermatsch I know. Cologne used to be known throughout Europe as "Paris on the Rhine". That's why I wonder how the Germans can be so irresponsible with their own culture and history. Their ancestors would be turning in their graves.

Simply because after the war there were so many homeless people that it was the top priority to rebuild houses. Construction materials were rare, the economy was in ruins.

It is easy to judge from the outside. The Germans had tens of millions of homeless refugees to care for after the war. @@markus38402

@@champagne3927 Hi! Cologne was alright, not my favorite European city but not the worst. There are a lot of nice museums to visit, the Cathedral is amazing, and the park on the other side of the Rhine is nice. I would rate it 6/10 overall. I did enjoy the Kolsch beer and hofbrau culture there. It is quite a large and bustling modern city. Worth visiting for 36 hours but no more.

@@lisarmurphy Hi! We did not do a Rhine boat tour, it seemed like it wouldn't be the most interesting thing to do. The boat tours were mostly full of older tourists and we were going to Amsterdam later on, which has much nicer opportunities for boating. Overall Cologne was a 6/10 city, don't spend more than 48 hours there.
