Out of all the sur ron modders out there, your content is setting the standard. To the point and informative. The way i like it
Thank you!
Unlike everyone else!, u going the most economical approach to this!thanks🥇 🏆 👏👏
i'm just cheap haha
El video que estaba buscado 😊😊 gracias amigo. 🇲🇽
I like the idea 💡 😏
Plus it gives you the option of upgrading the calipers later down the line.
Great information! Thank you for the video!
GREAT video... we just discovered the surrons, talarias and now the talaria xxx.... great fun.. from a MX background, these are like Low maintenance pit bikes, that can also sneak downtown, or to pitbike, or even some light trails.
Yeah I can take this thing everywhere and not get any complaints. I love it
very helpful information.
Wow! very helpful.
Thank you for saving me a lot of money
Bought the slx 7100 lever thanks to this vid! Great content!
Nice!
Do you like it? I picked up the same today and I feel like it clips the throttle tube. It's also so short when separated from the grip by the throttle tube.
@@arzosahsothy i don't, and I agree i went to Maguras.
Hey if I understand you have slx 7100 levers and magura calipers?
Thanks for sharing great video 👌👍✌️
Hey man, really good video as usual (love the edit, it's so sleek). I've seen on a website aftermarket levers for the original brakes.
That with proper pads and you've already improved the braking by a large margin.
My main grief regarding the brakes was that they started leaking after some time and several bleeding.
Thank you! Yea all of my riding buddies' stock levers are having issues. I hate the stock lever :x Upgrade to shimano levers when you get the chance you won't regret it.
thats good to know😁
Excellent Info
Thanks~!
Thanks for the awesome idea! I think it’s definitely what i am gona do. One thing i will say is upgrading your controller so you can use regen is probably the most robust given the weight and speed of the bike - atleast from my experience
Regen is great when braking but terrible but coasting.. I haven’t made up my mind whether i like it or not haha
@@ridefarm5528 yep it really depends on terrain but im talking about the regen thumb throttle - which you can actually use to come to a complete stop using the motor. It stops waaay stronger than mtb brakes and actually charges your bike more
@@Lulhaay i would be interested in that in the future
@@ridefarm5528 look into getting a bac4000! Its not just more power ;) ntc also sells the foot brake for regen only which makes it a much cleaner install - you just have to plug in one connector
@@Lulhaay I have a bac2000 and used it on my bike just to try stuff out like the thumb Regen and tbh I don't like it I prefer the throttle off Regen like my stock x260 came with. I like that the stock controller on the x260 let's you adjust the Regen too. I'll admit having the thumb Regen does come in handy at times but I just found it required way to much movement from my perspective to be useful for most my ride cases. But it's nice that the option is there and you can always choose to use it or switch to other methods.
Actually I think you better brake feeling is mostly due to the hose. It would be interesting to see what the levers themselves do but I've heard the hose is where the weak point is in the stock brakes because it's thin and bulges under pressure
The hose plays a much smaller role compared to the levers. Where the hose shines is when things get hot. The hose aids in maintaining a consistent feel, it does not provide better braking. I personally consider the stock lever the biggest weak point.
@@ridefarm5528yea I want new brake levers since they suck, I’m trying to keep the stock caliper but don’t know if I could keep the stock brake hose if possible
Just saved me a ton of money !
nice!
@@ridefarm5528 I just bought the new master cylinder and lever and it’s super soft do you think it’s because of the brake line ?
@@SureRon brake does play a part but not significantly. I suspect it wasn't bled correctly?
nice
Hi! I'm watching everything you post, great content!
I want to do the same upgrade with the Shimano levers and my local bike shop doesn't know if the brake lines fit the brake levers. Do they need an adapter? Can you please help me? Thanks
what bar direct mount is that my friend? great video?
Very interesting. What model from other brands would you point toward no that Shimano is impossible to find ?
hi from Australia, first of all my son and I want to say thank you for all you videos. We have watched and listen to everything. You've cost m a lot more money though...lol.. We are yet to receive our Sur Ron X , but have ordered the Magura Caliper and adaptor as per your suggestion. Now we want to upgrade the brakes.. and do you suggest a larger front wheel??
Thanks for checking out the videos!
Personally, at stock power, I feel like the stock wheels are just fine. It turns super sharp in single trails and I plan on keeping it stock unless I do some crazy power upgrade in the future. Bigger front wheel would be beneficial if you do tons of rock gardens or very gnarly trails.
Hi, so if I get the shimano XT m8100 brake levers, I just unscrew the stock brake lines and screw them right into the new XT levers without any cutting or adapters right? If that works I will get the shimano brake bleed kit, bleed them, and put some shimano H03c pads on and call it good, so I’d appreciate your feedback, thanks.
Did you swap the left lever for the rear, are the lever pistons different for front and rear , left and right?
Do the calipers come w/rotors, or are they (rotors) aftermarket?
Thx in advance -
Can you post a video of riding with these mods?
Does Shimano xt brakes fit onto surron or is it just saints ? And what length do they need to be or would it be fine with uncut set ? Thanks
Do you have the link to the Magura mt5 caliper? I can only find it paired with their lever, I bought the xt lever because of this video and installed it myself, I can’t thank you enough! Such a game changer!
glad the lever install went well! I had spare mt5 lever+caliper laying around so I didn't actually buy just the caliper
@@ridefarm5528 oh okay thanks! probably will use shimano saints if my calipers go bad, only got the left lever since right lever is out of stock but man its crazy
Will the stock surron brake lines fit into the XT levers? Thanks
great video. which ones are direct replacements? shimano sl-8000 lever or the Shimano slx 7100 lever? Which of the 2 do you recommend?
Any of the shimano hydraulic levers will work. I recommend the XT of course.
This video is literally what I’ve been thinking about doing with my stock brakes, I’m new to brake work so idk if I should get a new brake hose just yet and just keep stock hose to not have to fit everything again since I don’t have specialty tools. Do you recommend I go to the bike shop or work on it myself? I’m just wondering what the difficulty level is since I already bleed my brakes
I had a bike shop do it for me, so i don't know exactly which tool is needed..
@@ridefarm5528 okay, thank you anyways, the video was very helpful
I Like your videos :)
Can you tell me please, why did you decide for Shimano lever instead this from Magura MT5?
I heard, IRead, that Shimano Saint has more zero-one work characteristic; In the same time, that quite good modulation has Lever for Magura MT5.
It would be cheaper and maybe better (not stronger, but just better). Can you explain?
THX
I used to use mt5 on my mountain bike, and one day someone told me that changing the lever to a shimano lever will make the mt5 stop a lot better. I tried it out and shimano lever+mt5 caliper was far better than any brakes I had tried. Nothing came close, which tells me that shimano levers pump in more pressure than the MT5 levers.
And yes I agree about the on/off characteristics of the shimano lever but i don't mind it since it is so powerful.
@@ridefarm5528 Ok.... So, what oil in hydraulic system in the brakes should I use in this configuration?
Royal Blood from Magura or Oil from Shimano? :)
@@ukaszcezary8870 i don't think it matters that much, but i'm running Mugura oil on my shimano lever + mt5 setup
Thanks, make more vids
Links are in the description
@@ridefarm5528 you guys should sell parts, or start a shop for the segways
I switched the levers to a Shimano xt but the Brake pressure ist really Bad (not the pressure Point). Does Somebody know how i can fix that?
I picked up some SLX 7120 levers today and I'm kinda concerned about the clearance on the throttle tube. It doesn't feel like it has full range of motion because of the plastic housing. Is that something you have noticed?
Adjust the Position of the throttle flat spot of the throttle is where the knuckle for the lever should be.
I like my levers aimed down instead of being leveled or lined up with my knuckles thats great for MTB but at higher speeds it takes more time to lift your fingers up and over with them aimed down near you're fingertips its quick and easy
Hey, did you solve this problem I want to do the same thing and I'm bit worried about the length and clearance of the lever.
@@tobiaskaspar609 Not really. They work but I didn't feel comfortable with the setup and ended up staying stock and just replacing the pads.
Hi, i want to order the Shimano levers. Can i confirm the models Shimano XT BL M8000 (Left) and the XT BI M8000 (right)?
Yes those are correct. However, any shimano brake levers will also work. M8100, m7100, m7000, M820 are also great options. I'm listing multiple options for you, because parts are all sold out these days, so whatever you can get hold of would work.
Hi what size are the bars you have and what is the rise on them?
Thanks
31.8, 50mm rise spank handlebars
what about upgrading the caliper and leaving the lever stock?
that would be less effective
What do you lose by not having that electric sensor connected to the brakes? does the regen braking still work? I managed to snag my brake on something in my shed and break the right/rear lever about an hour after assembling my surron...
Having the brake sensor is connected, when you pull in your lever, even if you twist the throttle, it won't propel the back wheel. It has nothing to do with regen.
The benefit of not having it connected is, on a steep incline there are instants when you need to throttle while the levers are pulled in.
@@ridefarm5528 Thanks for the quick response! That's what I had read prior to riding, but I tested it and even with the brakes applied at a stop it let me twist the throttle. Was able to lock the front and spin the rear from stock. When feathering the rear brake id swear it made an engine noise that sounded like the regen braking on my ev car. I'll call luna cycle and do some more testing tomorrow.
with saint lever and magura caliper which oil are you using?
Royal bood magura or mineral shimano
🔥🔥
i run magura oil but my friend runs shimano on the same set up. Both seems to work fine.
@@ridefarm5528 thanks!!
What’s the length of the back brake hose wanting to get new brakes but don’t know what size
I don't have the measurement
any alternatives to the levers you linked to? they're backordered with no ETA, thanks!
unfortunately, since the making of this video, Shimano parts have gone up in price due to supply shortage :( You can still order one from Aliexpress but a lot more expensive:

Hello, I love Shimano lever but what can I do for break light actuators ? My Surron is Street legal .
hmm i have no idea. you may be stuck with stock brake
I'm wondering how the stock surron handles the brake lights. It must work threw the brake sensor but then if you shut off the motor off on braking that effectively shuts off the brake sensor on my bike so I'm wondering if it's the same on the surron. I have a x260 and in the Bluetooth menu I can shut it off but I have a issue now because when I took my controller off to try the bac2000 and then put it back on I couldnt connect to blue tooth since it asks to pull the brakes to pair and my brake sensors where turned off when I took the controller off.
Get the magura MT5e levers they are made for ebikes and have the sensor wire.
Best part its just the actual "levers" so you can still use whatever lever housing you want
How did you handle the brake sensors, just unplug from controller?
yep
Does that cause any issues like programming the controller? Thanks
Saint brakes/ are better then mt5s no?
MT5 levers aren't very good, but the caliper is very powerful
Why xt and not saints?
i have one surron with saint levers and one surron with xt levers. The difference is very marginal
The brake line has better heat managment? You know nothing about brakes, right?
Do you have a shop?
I don't
I just stop with my feet like Flintstones
that's one affordable option
u sound like sid the sloth
All these parts sold out now :(
It's so hard to get parts these days :(
Hey ride farm, are you in Ohio?
No, I'm in Korea
@@ridefarm5528 holy smokes, the cleveland Indians cap threw me off..
will those handle 72v upgrade? just got 2022 x model, wanna try some parts before battery
Yeah it will handle it. I would do hose upgrade for sure for 72v. My friend with upgraded 60v told me he had to crank up the regen to prevent excessive brake pad wear.
