"Feels like mountain biking did in the 90s where there's a whole lot of discovery going on." "This bike really is that piece that does get me to think about riding as a kid again." I grew up in the 90s, had a rigid fork 90s mountain bike then, and the Checkpoint is super rad! It hits all the right feels for me, I NEED ONE!
Just purchased the Checkpoint ALR 4 to compliment my Tarmac Rode bike...Was not prepared to spend $4,100 (Cdn) on the carbon frame...test rode the SL5 and it was like butter...hope i have no regrets not spending the cash for the carbon!
Blake953 I was thinking of actually buying the ALR4, I road test it with the right size for me, it was nice to drive. Then I road test the SLR5 Carbon, at first I’m like there’s no difference between the two. Then I think hard what to buy, I end up with the checkpoint sl5. The reason is not because the alr4 is not good but I just don’t want to upgrade and spend another $$$ in the long run.. the weight difference between the two is give and take 500 grams only. Both are nice but sl5 is just awesome 👍🏼
@@rj-gd3pc The SLR5 is a great bike, carbon is definitely no gimmick...enjoy it. A couple of weeks ago I rode my ALR4 in a 70km gravel race (Paris 2 Ancaster / P2A) and I felt pretty good on it...
Someone at Trek; I have a Checkpoint SL6 and would like to mount cargo on the forks as shown in the video. However there are only two mounting bosses on each fork 6.5 inches apart. Water bottle cage and salsa anything mount spacing is 64mm. How do I mount something other than a front pannier rack or fender on these forks?
Hi, what tyre pressure would you consider optimum for general riding? Too hard and impossible off-road; too soft and hard work on tarmac. On the stock tyres.
I've just tested a Checkpoint AL3. I loved the ride and the fit. Unfortunately TREK only warrantees it up to a total rider weight+cargo up to 125kg :( ... I weigh a good bit more than that, and so do my readers. Sad. I might still go for it anyway and ride at my own risk.
As someone who is up there in years but very capable and who has fully converted to the enormous fun factor of pointing a full sus mountain bike down hill and off jumps, ledges and such I don’t get this “gravel” bike thing. You’re restricted to the most mundane smooth off road trails. Is it that you can comfortably and efficiently bike many miles on roads to get to an off road trail with a gravel bike? I probably wouldn’t want to peddle more than 5 miles on roads with my Trek Remedy to get to decent downhill trails. Most commonly I peddle less than 1/4 mile to a trail head. Love the aerobic conditioning built up to get to the top of a great downhill run and then the reward of sending it back down.
welp, after a ton of research and being honest with myself (I'm mostly a roadie) It's between the Trek checkpoint alr4 and the grail 6.0 for me. I'm not going to lie either I think the grail AL has you beat Trek... However, since my size won't be available to even purchase until June 26th, 2021 according to Canyon's website... I will be getting the alr4 checkpoint due to the fact that it's my runner up and there is a Trek store within a 5 min walking distance of where I work that has one in stock. Congrats on getting my money!
Veja e Curta a fanpage da Pedalada Do Bem Estar. Obrigado!
I talked to my local Trek dealer. The Trek rep had just been in town to brief him on new products. So I asked why no IsoSpeed on the front. He said that it was considered but since it moves laterally, not vertically (compressing like a shock), it did not meet the goal that the engineers set. The higher volume tires should smooth out hits on the front end. It sounds like a reasonable explanation, but I think it added too much complexity (and cost) to be released for the Spring, so they made a C/B calculation. I’m just speculating, so make your own conclusion. In conclusion, after seeing it in person, I want a carbon one. BTW 45c tires will definitely fit!

This is exactly what I've always wanted for the trails out here 😍
Riding this in Door County, WI would be amazing.
Just ordered one! Cant wait to take it on the trails here in PA and WV!
Fantastic bike. Regards from Brazil. Gravel is growing here!
Dang it Trek, just take my 💰!!!! 😂👍🏻🤘🏻

Searching for an answer to this question myself and coming up with nothing.

I want ISO Speed on the front please!
Good bike - just what I'm looking for. How does it compare to a Giant TCX 1 or 2. I was looking at the Checkpoint A5 in Australian $
Im not sure what to purchase “checkpoint” or “1120” 🤔🤔

Are we going to see front isospeed on the checkpoint?
What's that?
so awesome!!! cant wait to get one of these!!!
Anyone knows if groupset in Trek checkpoint 4 Tiagra can be upgraded To 105/ultegra?
You'd can but you would need to change the whole groupset at once. Tiagra is a 10 speed, 105, Ultegra, and DA is 11 speed
Sweet bike! It's set up just like my old re-purposed TREK 720!
I'll stick with my mountain bike for dirt and gravel roads. Nice bike though.
what fork mounted bag system is that you show on the bike?
I like to buy Scott speeder 40 2018 can anyone give me a feedback of it or any other road bike in that cost pls help me give a solution for me pls
Dinesh Deena 😂😂😂
I'm waiting for the Waterloo blue to match my marlin and madone. Maybe 2021 models?

Yes!!! Just what I needed!!! :-)
Dennis Stempher SAID NO ONE EVER!!!😂😂😂
Avaliable in Colombia ?
YES please!
Buy a vintage rigid steel MTB, slap a 27.5 wheels and tires and drop handlebar and you have yourself a cheap gravel/cross bike.
Can you do that? I thought MTB was not compatible with drop bars?
Why if so gravel focused, do you not offer more of an off road groupo? Like SLX/XT/XTR?
So it's basically the subaru to my 4wd
Congrats!!!
Trek the best bike.
Love it!

Im sure it rides nice.....but gawd the paint! Could it look any more BORING?!?!
No
Sadly my country doesn't give a shit of gravel bikes TT probably Trek Thailand won't even bother selling this model
Love!!!
glad havent buy the diverge
Yeah, going from a full-suspension mountain bike to a gravel bike is tough. Looks cool, but fully rigid is no joke, bone-jarring at speed!
It really does make things interesting when you’re used to the full squish
Thanks but Dualsport does the same thing for less money...
But that doesn't have drop bars?
Adrienne M drop bars aren’t the only thing you have to ride. Some people prefer flat bars.
Boom.
Y'all are years behind in the gravel game.. Plus if it's anything like my last Trek, it will fall apart like a cheap toy.
Not mine, I've had it for years, ridden thousands of miles on it. It's not even a high-end model.
Trekpoint
If you're a marketing professional and want to test your chops, go work for a bike company where you have to reinvent the bicycle every 12 months.
Did you know that Chinese bootlegger companies have already stolen these designs and they are selling these bikes already?
You guys are late. Late late! Way behind QBP and Specialized on this. Looks like a nice bike though.
And it's not designed to swap out to 650b like all the competitors. Trek really missed the mark on this one...so behind
35c...what?! LOL
it can fit 45c
Trek designed the SL gravel bike with a proprietary seatpost, so no one can install a dropper post. SO STUPID.
我是第一个?!
Than ride a mountain bike
Late to the party and not that great. Far better options out there.
Tim Roache wtf, going to keep it a secret.
“(A) mountain biker’s road bike”, I wish IsoSpeed was on the front too.
me too! could get domane and put 35c tires, but its not the same as 45s that can fit on the checkpoint

It's on the 2019 models I believe
These are the 2019 models.
