We have the best universities but a pretty horrible public education system and literally EVERYONE acknowledges that here. Everyone’s heard of Harvard, Yale, Stanford, etc, but the public school system is absolutely screwed for a few reasons. Firstly, in the early 2000’s there was a push for school reform and the result was the No Child Left Behind Act which established standardize testing for public schools. The issue with this act is that it did the opposite of what it should’ve done by giving more funding to schools that performed well on the tests while giving less money to schools that performed poorly. If this seems counter intuitive because your only helping the people that succeed, it is, because the act was lobbied for by private schools that wanted to essentially cut out the competition and fill the spots with their own schools to make a profit. This was supposed to be avoided with “school choice” that would allow parents to choose schools outside of their district (schools are mostly funded by property taxes that make up districts) but most poorer people couldn’t afford transportation or the long distances to go to good schools. Therefore when private schools roll in their forced to sign up if they want their kids to have an education. As a result of this the remaining public schools opted to use a system called “teaching to the test” and it’s largely the reason for Americas learning decline over the past two decades. Kids are taught a subject in a manner directly tied to test taking so there’s almost no interaction with the subject beyond listening to a teacher describe the subject and writing it down while then filling in bubbles on a paper. Its no surprise then that most kids are bored out of their mind because there’s practically no time to actually be active in the day and there’s rarely an opportunity to get interested in a subject beyond the bare bones of what your taught in class. Most kids don’t pay attention because of that and American schools perform horribly as a result. It doesn’t help that public school teachers are grossly underpaid and overworked thanks to all of the documents they have to grade under the testing policy, so often times they can interact with or teach individual students for extended periods of time. The resulting clusterfuck is the American education system that benefits around 5-10% of the student population that’s good at taking tests and listening to orders for hours but not much else. I’m still in the public school system (last year before university) and I went to a top university for a legal camp last year. Most of the kids there from America lacked the creativity and ingenuity to look at cases and find what was wrong, design a strategy around it, or really do much beyond basic class work. It’s sort of a microcosm for the whole education system at this point because the American education kills creativity and only really benefits people that can afford top of the line private schools or won the genetic lottery to be able to sit in a chair and do nothing but pay attention for hours as a child. It’s not really surprising when you consider that private schools and education corporations specifically lobbied for this system to make a greater profit and politicians, mostly conservatives, continue to endorse it under the guise of school choice. I’m just glad to go to university so I can finally get out of this dump because it took me forever along with a change to online school yo finally start paying attention in class, something most kids never do.

@@Max_Svensson I didn't know that, but I guess that also applies to majority of the USA in the 18th and 19th century
@@KevinCasasola2006 Yep, It does. I knew that one, but I didn't comment on it because that would be pretty extreme.
As a Louisianan, the worst state is Mississippi.
as a french person, i see this as an absolute win!
I admit I do mix up some of the smaller countries, and the Balkans, but it's also surprising how many Americans can't even find all the US states on the map. Geography hasn't been taught in schools for a very long time. I started school in the mid 70s and it was never a subject that I took, it was kind of lumped in with social studies, which itself had replaced history by then, another sad reality of the US educational system.

Wait! You forgot to line Russia!
@@MikhailCrazyBoyWell most of the population lives in Europe, and the culture is really European.
Russia originated in Europe, and they are Europeans. (mostly
@@Mechmechgames001 But that doesn't mean, it's european!
Mostly european
@@MikhailCrazyBoy The other countries are less european
I promise we aren't all like this...
As an american, i can label most countries on a WORLD map
I mean, as bad as this is, being a European myself I have to admit that I cannot pinpoint a single American State on a blank map.
Could you imagine if you asked them to name Asian countries?
Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, Cyprus (?), Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Burma, Thailand ,Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, The Philippines, East Timor, Mongolia, China, Japan, South Korea, North Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, The Maldives.
I think I listed all of the Asian countries ? Lemme know if I forgot something
@@KevinCasasola2006 Taiwan's a country, its people have been separate from the mainland for almost ~70 years and has its own national identity, history, military, industries, foreign relations, etc etc...
Russia's Siberia is an Asian country, or atleast a european country that so happens to have residences and a major city in Northeast Asia known as Vladivostok.
Other than that I think that is all of the Asian countries
@loafoffloof3420 I think you meant the very south east... near Japan.
As a citizen from the country of "?"
I see this as an absolute win
France, Spain and Italy were the only one always rightly labeled
netherlands named pot lol
italy named ravioli lol
Russia ok, but based on videos I've seen, even for the worse Americans, the easiest are UK (sure, if they had to write England, Wales and Scotland maybe would have more problems) and Italy (miss that peninsula is impossible); Portugal, Spain and France are always right also and Greece too is (almost) always correct. 🍺
2:36 flexing Estonia huh😂
As an American who can name most European countries but not all the states I feel conflicted
It seems it is mostly the older people who don’t know Europe. The younger people actually can guess multiple countries in Europe right.
Just couldn't tolerate seeing no Montenegro in the map. Seems to be located in Serbia now.
In fact the U.S citizen usually are a high knows in specific issues acording to what they haved studies and very inept in the rest of issues ; superior to other western countries.
As a Spaniard living in USA I confirm this IS true
Weird map of Europe, Nordic countries are cut out almost completely, no Iceland.
To make this map much easier write the title 1940 Europe and then fill it out
Is it true or is it an urban legend, when they say that Americans go to Austria and ask where they can see kangaroos?
As an American, I am indeed VERY embarrassed of my country.
There is an error in map. Polish borders look different 😅
0:19 even the map is wrong why is Serbia taking Montenegro and Kosovo
7:25 Moldova Liechtenstein Vatican City Malta Cyprus 👍🏼
Map shows more of Africa, Middle East or Central Asia than Finland. I guess the memes of us being Mongolian were bit too true to the map maker.
Damn the bar is in hell
what bar lol
As an European I can name almost, not all but almost all of US states correctly.
Americans lost interest in geography when series like friends and big bang theory roasted Geologists 😂😂
WHERE IS MONTENEGRO!!!???!??
sleeping in my basement
As an American, I'm truly embarrassed by these answers, though not surprised. I'm like you, a lover of maps and could write the name of almost every counrty in the world correctly. I'm still a little sketchy on some of the smaller Caribbean and Pacific Island nations. C'mon Americans, look at some maps!
As a Swede, I think my weakness is the same. I don't think we learned the Pacific Islands in school.
3:49 HOW DARE HIM SAY HUNGARY IS BALKAN
montenegro and kosovo literally disappeared? Honestly I don't think it could have changed if they were there
I'm so glad people see Kazakhstan for what it really is: Mongolia 2
kazakhstan is turkey 3 (azerbaijan is turkey 2)
@@_kitaes_ nah man Turkiye is Mongolia 6
Most Americans can’t name or locate all 50 states let alone other countries
