You actually have 45 minutes to write and an additional 5 to upload. I know that’s only marginally better. I would recommend practicing an essay or two in 45 minutes and determining if there is anything that is costing you time. For instance, are you re-reading the same paragraph multiple times? Are you rewriting sentences or having writer’s block? Some students can read the passage quickly, around 5 minutes. Other students need closer to 10. Try to figure out what works best for you. I have some students who need the 10 minutes to read, but then they write a better essay. When they try to do it in 5, they stress out. I have other students who can read it and 5 and want to start writing. Taking an extra 5 minutes to annotate would mess them up. The best advice I can give is to find out what works for you. To do that, try a couple practice essays. You may have already done this. Based on what you know about yourself, set some rules. For example, you might say, I’m only going to worry about a strong thesis, not a full introductory paragraph because I need to save time. If you make that rule for yourself, stick to it. I’m not sure if that is helpful advice or not, but several students have asked about time management, so I’m going to try to make a video about it before the exam.

For all the examples you have provided, would these be considered complete paragraphs, or as additions to a paragraph?

We don’t know what essay score will yield a 5 cut score. It could be possible. It depends on the prompt.
