The 80s were objectively the best time to be a kid. The cartoons the toys the movies the danger of playing and no Internet.
@@HouMat-if5fi Well, the 80s was the last gasp, but the 1970s was the last era to enjoy being a child.
70’s and 80’s were cool period to be a kid we had saturday cartoons cool toys cool videos games, great movies we played outside no internet no cell phones.
Kids were kids back then
I still have my movie storybooks from the 80s.
Me too. Thank god I never got rid of them.
Me too!
The cantina scene was so scary to my mom she closed her eyes in the theater!
That’s one cool book. A piece of early Star Wars history that you can hold in your hand.
I got my copy in grade school in 1978 & I still have it!
Me, too!
Scholastic Book Services
When you got to the third or fourth page, I started to remember things. You just unlocked some memories.
I had this book. The photo of Luke and Biggs was a treat!!
Memorabilia like the Storybook and Trading cards were the only visual references at the time. I wouldn't change it for the world. A different time
A better time. Before the dark time. Before the interwebs...
@@sergioleone3583 you got it
Still have mine
I met Anthony Daniels this past year at Atlanta Comic Con. I took this book for him to sign. I've had it since I was 5. He told me that he didn't want to sign it because of the error on the cover. He asked me if I knew what it was. I didn't. He showed me how there was a bar bolted to R2D2's legs to keep him from falling over for the shoot. They didn't edit it out. He signed my book anyway. For the price I paid, it shouldn't have mattered! lol
He sounds like a stickler, never the less, I'm glad he signed it anyway. :)
Odd reason to not want to sign it lol
I’ve had this book for 46 years & just ran down to my basement to look at the cover of my copy to notice this for the first time since you pointed this out! 😲
The more stories I hear and read about Mr. Daniels, the more he sounds like a cun t.
@@WalrusOpossum
Yeah, the way he treated Kenner Baker was absloutely uncalled for.
From intentionally forgetting him in the R2 suit/prop (while in the blazing Tunisian heat!), to scoffing at him when he suggested that he and Anthony Daniels do conventions together, he sounds very unpleasant.
I had that book! Also had the novel and soundtrack (on vinyl). As you said, before video this was the only way to relive the movie.
Wow this brings back memories!I loved the empire strikes back story book,i stared at it for hours! We grew up in the best generation for sure💯💯💯
I still have mine, and ESB. 😮🤘
I got a flashback when I saw that cover. I also remember getting the Return of the Jedi version at the theater the night we went to see it.
I still have mine from 1978. My aunt had bought it for me. In fact it's in my living room with my late father's 1950 and 1952 Brooklyn Dodgers yearbooks. Luke Skywalker and Jackie Robinson. What a combination.
I still have that book - got it back when it came out.
I still have mine, as well as the ones from TESB and ROTJ.
Please find the ESB and ROTJ one Junkman.
I loved this book as a kid. :)
I have this book and when I was a kid I always remembered seeing the scene in the movie where Luke looks up in the sky with his binoculars and sees the space battle. Turns out that was a false memory and that was only in the storybook. That scene WAS actually filmed which is how the photo got in the storybook, but it was never in any release of the movie that was shown in theaters. In a documentary years later it was explained that a lot of the scenes with Luke and Biggs and their friends on Tatooine were cut from the movie for pacing reasons.
Still got my copy!
SO TRUE ! i read my copy of this book so much the spine came unglued and i finally got another copy. You are right ! it was the only way for us to "see the movie" in our heads! and YES the "deleted scenes" pictures. This book is why some people believed they watched a version of the movie with the Biggs scenes in it! this book was a HUGE part of many of our childhoods !!!
The cool thing about storybooks, bubblegum cards and magazines back then is the images were usually based off on-set photography vs. actual film frames, so you were often getting a different take, angle or deleted scene from what was shown in the films. And since home video for the Star Wars films wasn't commonplace until the mid 80s, the Star Wars experience for kids was based off of storybooks like these, the soundtracks, the toys and other merch. The films were often a distant memory compared to the day to day memorabilia and playthings available. This multimedia experience was very immersive and influential for kids in their formative years.
My grandmother passed away two years ago, this summer the family finally got to cleaning out her home to allocate things to grandchildren. I found this in her stash of gifts!! Something I chose to keep!
I had that whole series of books as a kid. I actually had the Jedi book before I managed to see the movie (it was hard to track down in the mid-80s). I gave in and ordered a set of them on the Bay of E last year to add to my bookshelves
I recently bought both the Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back story books again at a local collector store. The ones I had from childhood originally are long gone. I also picked up the Battlestar Galactica one. Great memories!😊😅
I’ve forgotten a lot of things, but this book is emblazoned in my memory
I had this as a kid and loved it! My Mom had to tape it together a couple of times because I wore it out looking at it!
I love this book so much that I STILL have it!! Cool episode, Junkman!
Got this in 1978 as a 10 y.o. in grade school from Scholastic Book Services. The picture with Obi-Wan & Luke with his blue light sabre ignited & C3P0 sitting there with his bare human hand sticking out FREAKED me out as a kid, too!
OMG!! I have that book! I saw the movie and my parents got me the book at the actual movie theater (when they did that kind of thing). I was no more than 6. I'll never give that book up. Also got an E.T. and Gremlins book from the Theater after watching those movies as well.
I was such a 70's Sci-Fi kid. Best damn toys then too (the kind kids can't play with now 😁 ).
i was just 6 in 1977. i never even heard of Star Wars at the time or knew what it was. i do remember seeing the Star Wars action figures at sears. i too young to understand about collecting toy's & one day they will become valuable. i was just a kid then
I read and looked at this book before I saw the movie. I went from this to seeing The Empire at the theaters. It was in my 5th grade class so I took it home and kept it. I still have it. I was confused when I finally saw Star Wars when it came out on HBO and didn’t see some of the scenes that I saw in the book. So glad you showed this ❤️
I think we all had these books and they were great, it breaks my mind wondering where so much of my vintage Star Wars stuff went, I know most of mine was lost in a house fire but it breaks my mind knowing I had all this great stuff and now it's just gone. But the memories are still so great. 👍👍👍
Cool video still have 2 copies of that book one in French snd the other in English.
When I was in grade school our library had the first book I can’t remember how many times I rented it.
When I started to collect toys back in 1987 i found one and I used it for references while I was drawing the characters.
Good old priceless memories
I always wanted to give Princess Leia a English Pork Pie.Thanks Junkman
I had this book also and LOVED it! My school teacher stole it from me, said "my son will like this" It had one picture of C3PO without his glove hand on.
Still have my copy of this!
And Vader without the cape is a behind the scenes shot from Docking Bay 327 on the Death Star.. not the Tantive IV.
Oh didn’t even know I said it’s was the blockade runner. It’s clear it’s the Ds
I'd love to have this.
That's a REAL brontosaurus skeleton in the desert meant to be Krate dragon remains.
They shipped it all the way to Tunisia JUST for that scene, but never shipped it back to the states, because it was too expensive and were in a time crunch.
Thanks for sharing this
Thanks for the video
Notice that C-3PO's legs are both gold colored on the cover but there's a silver leg many probably didn't notice at 2:04
You can also clearly see the Rebel with his Platform Shoes on at 8:24 - trendy!
I had that book and remember the Biggs pictures well.
I saw Star Wars at an old 1931 movie theater on the town square. Great experience.
I still have an original hardcover in my Star Wars library!
I had this book. I always wondered about the scenes in the movie, that I didn't remember. Same with the comic adaptation, I think there were differences with it, too. Cool book, thanks for bringing memories back, junkman.
I still have this book.
I’ve got it! It’s somewhere packed away at my parent’s house. I hadn’t thought about it in years.
A human hand? That's a leaf! :)
I still have mine at my parents. The Return of the Jedi book was hard cover. I remember being mad I couldn’t find paper back like the first two.
I had that same book.
Cool video, Junkman! Videos on the other two movies would be great!
Still have all three.
Why was the adult magazines always found in the woods. I found many.
@@brianlocke2657
I found my first in someone's garbage, THEN I took it to the woods.
Maybe it's a primal thing. :)
I have this one on my book shelf .......
This was awesome 👏 I remember asking my mom why this wasn’t in the movie and she tried to explain it all to but I didn’t get it because I was like 5. But I still love ❤️ these books.
I mowed at lot of lawn's and picked up many can's to purchase this book. To bad i do not have it anymore.
Dang, I forgot all about that book. I got mine and the record "The Story of Star Wars" and the board game all at the same time.
I checked this out of my school library as often as I could! ( I have my own copy now).
I loved this book
I saw star wars in theaters released in 1977 and it said episode IV a new hope on screen and had the scene with luke and his friends at the start . it did not have the jabba scene , though the 1981 version did and dropped the luke scene.
I was 8 years, when orig' SW was out. The scenes with Luke and his friends, was in the novel, the the Marvel comic, and books like this. Yet,...later, seeing the deleted scenes,....and knowing, that Lucas's film friends and his creative team advised, that not knowing Tattoine had 'human natives' until the Jawa's arrived at the Lars ranch- that does still make sense. Good to know that Luke had friends, and a third Women in the whole film, Camie (reappeared in Book of B'Fett; different actress) -and, more context for Biggs- yet, for the original film, taking out works! Could have returned in the/a "Special edition"?!!!!?
Bought mine through school too the extra pages are end covers basically Also the photos were chosen out of random by low end employees at the publisher I took my portable cassette recorder in the theater and taped the original trilogy still have the tapes
Oh yeah I have all three books from the original trilogy, as a kid I also was confused at the pictures with Biggs that I assumed were extra pictures made for the book.
I had that book. Nice.
It's because of this book, that I thought I had seen the deleted scenes lol.
The Spanish version was terrible. Luke Skywalker was called LUCAS TROTACIELOS, R2-D2 was called "ARTURITO" and chewbacca was called "MASCA" (I can get this one since CHEW means that In Spanish). A friend had this book. I had the mini storybook with a vinyl record and we argued intensely so many times about the different photos and names, not any of us having seen the actual film until 1982 on tv, just knowing it because of the books and toys
In the SW Universe, they have a 911 style Death Star memorial commemorating the terrorist attacks in the battle of Yavin
Good book. I think I have like 4 of them
Like Dave down below, I also got mine at school in 78. I might still have this one in a box somewhere. Been unboxing stuff lately, hopefully can find it!
Dude i had this, this is what made me become a true jedi to all with the force flex.
I had this back when I was 5 years old. I slept with it under my pillow.
I have this book for sale on eBay with 2 other rare Star Wars books in a bundle.
Still have mine along with the Empire Strikes Back. Not sure if we had the Jedi one, though I'm sure we did...but one of my brothers probably got it
I have one .
Not as good of shape as I’d like 😢
Had this as a kid, but not sure what happened to it. I'm sure it's still at my parents house. Acquired another from an x family member later on in life, and then about 10 years ago, came across another in pretty good condition at a flea market for like $2. Of course I got it, along with the original soundtrack record.
A couple of things.. Its because of these books and the bubble gum cards that we knew the characters names. I remember seeing something when the prequels came out , not knowing who the character was, well, I stopped reading Schoolastic books. and they did have a return of the Jedi Book, I got it before the movie came out. was conflicted, should I tell my friend Vader is really Luke's father? Man , still remember that day
had this in the uk too cool memories!
I still have my StarWars storybook.
I have this book had a tatty one for years as a kid then a better condition one later on.
Hey Junkman why not doing a video of the read along books and small Lp? Remember those? Each time a page was read you could hear an R2D2 sound to tell you to turn the page. 😃
Already done
I remember this
We know good and dang well you didn’t read the book!
Every generation thinks they grew up in the best times....and why did we all find a penthouse in the woods?
😂 @2:59
Hey Mr. Junk, Where'd you get this Scanned PDF version of this book ???
Internet archive
@@ThatJunkman But they won't let me download it. :(
The Death Star explosion is from the Falcon battling ties after escaping Death Star
I believe I had the Star Wars and Empire story books as a kid.
Then in 83 or 84 Scholastic had an offer for all 3 books that came in a cardboard sleeve. Which my parents paid for.
