    to be honest, until this video, I wasn't so excited about this new view..... can't wait to try it!!

      Hope you enjoy it! We waited a long time for this. It's not perfect, but a great first step for this!

    I'm surprised Airtable hasn't tried to buy GAP Consulting yet. Gareth does clearer content marketing for Airtable than their own internal teams do.

    This is brilliant. Thank you so much for pointing this out and explaining. I didn't even notice that a List view had been introduced. I work in a professional services firm and need to be on top of my client hours all the time. I've created a workaround but this is definitely simpler and more elegant. Also, I think somewhere you said "operational nonsense." I'm gonna steal that.

      No disrespect meant, but when it starts to feel like herding cats, it's nonsense! 😂
      So glad this helped!

    Thanks for the video, Gareth. I just took a few minutes to add this type of list view to 2 of my existing bases and it worked out perfectly. The bases are 1) end-user software testing (tracking software versions, modifications, and testing scripts), and 2) tracking employee training for the current fiscal year. Both of these bases already had hierarchical structure, but this list view allows me to visualize the structure and progress better.
    As always, thanks for making it easy to implement these features!! 😁

    For me ,knowing what the end goal of this list is from the beginning of the tutorial would help the building blocks might make more sense to me.
    I’ll have to watch this again on 0.5 speed a few more times.

    Thanks for the video! Always a big fan of your stuff. Still surprised it doesn't allow Lists to be shared/embedded. Any intel on why that's the case? I guess it's the same question I've always wondered about Interfaces too.

    • @GarethPronovost
      @GarethPronovost  11 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching - unfortunately I don't have any insider intel. My guess is that Lists are in such high demand, Airtable wants to encourage people to use them in interfaces. Doing this will (theoretically) lead to more Airtable users. I'd guess this is also why interfaces are not able to be embedded.

    The List view is perfect also for scheduling. Day -> Block -> Item. Unfortunately there is no support for printing yet. Do you think they will add print support in future? Like they have for grid view, for example...

      I'm hopeful it will be available soon, but I haven't heard any news for this feature

    I have a scenario I’m trying to solve: We want to keep inventory bill of materials and then enter everything produced today and get a total usage of raw materials. For instance 1 dozen choc chip cookies = 1 C. Flour, 1 egg, 1 T butter, 1 C choc chips. Of course we also make croissants and they may use some (but not all) of the same ingredients. I want to enter what I produced today and then know how much flour, eggs, butter, choc chips, etc were consumed. Is this possible with this new hierarchy view?

    Thanks Gareth for these very clear explanations, as usual.
    I don't get though the fundamental difference of lists vs grouped grids, example : a "billing hours" grid grouped by both "sprints" then "projects" ? 🧐
    Except :
    - the ability to collapse these levels, which is handy
    - an easier way to create new records.
    But I see all you can do with grids that you can't do with lists.
    Do I miss something ?

    • @GarethPronovost
      @GarethPronovost  Год назад

      I think the benefit to a list view is that you see records from multiple layers in the grid. For example, in this video I show the project record, then inside that are the related sprint records, and then the hours records inside the third level. In a typical grid view, you only have the records of that specific table, without the additional layers

    How does this differ from a Grid view grouped by multiple fields?

    • @GarethPronovost
      @GarethPronovost  Год назад +1

      It's similar, except that it also includes the additional levels (2 deeper hierarchies, in this case)

    Love the content, Gareth. Respectfully I would try and get rid of the reflections in your audio, to make it sound as focused as your content. :-)

      Thanks for the comment. Any recommendation for equipment?

    • @jfbmusic
      @jfbmusic Год назад

      Hey @@GarethPronovost I think I would start by making your space less lively when you record by adding moving blankets, or other absorbing material, so you don’t hear the reflections as much. You may already have all the right equipment! :-)

    Is there a way to share a list view with a link? The option is not up there.

  • @XAE_A_Xii

    Tried it, not great, many features are missing, can’t freeze columns, can’t group, can’t share

    • @XAE_A_Xii
      @XAE_A_Xii Год назад +1

      And design is bad, no visible grid lines to separate dofferent levels

      Sorry to hear you're not a fan of the view! I really dig it, it's a great way to see lots of data at once, IMO
