the lack of an open hub world in the old games makes the levels more iconic and memorable.
I get made fun of by my friends for preferring Lego games over most other games but I just can't help it, they're all so good.

The problem with comparing the games is that with Lego games nostalgia will always win out. I'm sure that 99% of the people who watched this played the either Complete Saga or Batman 1 as their first Lego game, hell they were my first games ever. So as much as I think the new games have improved drastically on the formula and are deserving of lots of praise, it's hard to overcome all those pesky memories of playing the OG games on your Xbox and fat TV after school
I'm so glad u brought up the Co-op aspect, I hate the new split screen co-op, I'd rather be stuck with my mate on the same screen just so we don't have to look at half the screen
I miss the Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean.

When I was born, the first tt lego games were coming out, so the first lego games I played ended up being the newer ones, but I’ve went back and played some of the older ones. I am loving it. I gotta say my my favorites are lego Star Wars the complete saga, Harry Potter years 1-4 and lego pirates of the Caribbean.
I was around 4 or 5 when when lego Star Wars released to be honest I never played lego Star Wars my parents never really liked buying me video games they’re old school they though video games are a waste of time but the few they did buy me were lego Indiana Jones Harry Potter and lego Batman these were my all time favorites I recently bought a couple of them again and I got the biggest nostalgia wave I’ve ever felt I felt like I was a kid again good times man
@@jay_r9825 yeah lego Batman was so fun to me I enjoyed getting 100% in that game, and since I got the platinum trophies in the Batman Arkham games, I’m gonna try to 100% lego Harry Potter 1-4. Thing for me is I was a 2006 kid so I didn’t really play any of the old lego games, I don’t get the same nostalgia, but I’m still having a blast playing through these old games. I personally think that the old lego games are better because they have a certain charm, maybe the fact that because of the mumbles they had to act things out, but overall I just love them.

@@tefigero3819 yeah I love the mumbles a lot more than the voice acting, I wish they had an option for both in the newer lego games but probably won’t happen. It was always so cool how creative some scenes were with no voice acting.
I was born in 1995 so i didn't get TT Lego games till i was 10 (which was a great age for it don't get me wrong) but i also absolutely loved the other Lego games that were out already and still have lots of fun memories from them! i remember playing the hell out of the first lego island and island extreme stunts and also the Bionicle games not to mention nearly everything that was on the old lego games site! its ridiculous how much fun lego has bought me in 26 years and how much fun i still have left to go!
I have to say though as much as i loved those games the furthest back i'm willing to play these days is the complete saga i just can't handle the clunky-ness of old games anymore unfortunately xD
The old LEGO games that had a menu to choose levels were all goated ( Comp Saga, Batman 1, Indiana Jones 1)

Older games just have that classic feel and such nostalgia, newer ones have insanely good graphics and extra activies like free roam open worlds and side quests, but man 100%ing the older games are a PAIN
They are actually using voice actor for Skywalker saga so I think they will be better

I think that Lego DC Supervillains has got to be one of the best Lego games. Just think about it, it's got Metropolis, Smallville, Gotham, Arkham, Belle Reeve and even Apokolips. The character roster has anyone you would ever want from the DC universe and the speedsters are so sick. The story isn't horrible (you get to create your own character that interacts with iconic DC universe characters). Also the fact that they were able to get Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy is just so crazy!
Tara Strong as Harley Quinn, Brandon Routh as Shazam, Michael Ironside as Darkseid, Clancy Brown as Lex Luthor, Dee Bradley Baker as DeSaad and Sea King, John Barrowman as Malcolm Merlyn, Tom Kane as Jim Gordon, Michael Rosebaum as the Flash, etc. It had an insane voice cast.

I don't think giving the minifigure a voice and creating an open world is a match for lego games. I preferred the older games, they had this unique atmosphere.
The big difference between old and new Lego games is the voice and grunt. I honestly can't tell which one is better for me, I'm still playing the voice but I was born with the grunt Lego games, so I love both of it. I can't even tell which Lego game is my favorite. Btw, anyone feel like Batman 2 have both vibes? I mean, it's the first talking Lego games, but some cut scenes just feel like the grunt one
the old games have such a simplicity to them that is really charming and still are fun, creative, and unique
Newer games don't have as much charm at times, but the advancements are clearly there and are still fun and offer something new
All in all LEGO Games always have been and always will be amazing

I love the talking in games it makes the ip's seem more iconic because the characters say iconic lines but I like the mumbling because it gives me the vibes that there is a kid playing with lego and they are mumbling sounds the characters would make.

When Doc Ock smashed a news helicopter into a building in LMS1, it instantly became my favorite Lego game.
I prefer having a hub line the old games where one will find the store to buy all the characters and access every levels
The older Lego games had a much more “show don’t tell” type of approach to the story. Linear lvl design, and a far superior gameplay/health system. (Seriously why did they change the hearts in skywalker saga?) I also prefer the perspective in the older games as I can see the area I’m in much easier, it just feels right and makes co op a hell of a lot easier than it is now. I HATE the new combat system they adopted in force awakens and have been using ever since, if I wanted to play a strategic shooter and use cover I’d play gears of war or something. Like that’s not what I play a Lego game for lol
I think I'm more of a new lego game person, but the choice is quite tough. New LEGO games have the excellent DC Supervillains, and other greats like Batman 2, LOTR, LMSH, and Hobbit. Older ones have such greats as the Harry Potter games, the clone wars, and, of course, Batman. Lego Batman 1 in particular impresses me like few other games, everything about it (except the vehicle missions) are just spot on. The game designers really get Batman in that game, they just got it right (I'm a comic geek in case you didn't guess it haha)

I love having a lot of characters to play with but with the newer games I do sort of get lost in the huge character menu so for the Skywalker Saga I hope they have a sorting system with like jedi, sith, clones,... or maybe multiple menus (one per movie). Or a favorites section would also be great.

They should just add a toggle mumble option in either settings or cheat codes so people can enjoy the games however they want!
I agree with the newer games drifting away from that original Lego game feeling. But maybe that’s good, because if we never moved on the variety within the games would’ve been bad. And since the new ones are evolving, we are able to go back and get that nostalgia every we start the old games.
But I totally agree with newer games not having the same vibe as the old. I mean in Skywalker saga there will be side quests, and so many different planets, each 30 times bigger than the old hub worlds.
The old ones are more driven by nostalgia, and the new ones are more advanced and well done.

As i played lego games, and i played a lot, i just love hub worlds, just running around fighting, and there is so much interactions you can do with the world in lego city. And for me that was also great for coop, because I was playing with my brother, and i loved just test characters or make fights in coop, travel through massive worlds on different vehicles was so cool in new games.
My favorite lego games: Lego marvel 1, lego the lord of the rings, lego the hobbit, lego pirates of the caribbean, lego batman 2 and harry potter years 1-4 and 5-7

New Lego games are pretty cool with their huge worlds and stuff but the old games bring back so much nostalgia and they are amazing. (Lego Star Wars the complete saga, Lego Batman 1 & 2, Lego Indiana Jones and Lego Pirates of the Caribbean)
LEGO Indiana Jones 2 & LEGO Batman are my favorite old LEGO games.
Both are absolutely fantastic. Old have more of a charm and funny aspect while having simple and compact games. New have more expanded universes, but can be much more complicated, which is weird for a Lego game. I think Dimensions is one of the best though, because it mixes real life Lego and the games, while holding the point of the company; creating worlds from all of your favorite creations.

They need to bring back the all out brawl when you hit someone in the hub world for the new Lego games as well all the unlock character walking around, imagine you hit someone with the Hulk and every super hero and villain brawling each other in the middle of the town.

Lego Batman 2 is easily my favourite open world lego game. So many good memories which is probably why I love it so much
Honestly I personally think the level design in the older games are way better. Especially when it comes to secret rooms or minikit requirements. Especially in Lego Star Wars complete saga

One good thing to say about the lego movie game. I remember the game nit having a minimap so me and my brother used to olay hide n seek and try to blend in with the crowd. Which is something you really can't do in other games.
I doubt it would happen, but I'd like Skywalker Saga to actually have a penalty for death, like spawning at an earlier checkpoint, or something.

I feel like for, the first point, old wins hands down.
Yeah, hearing voices is cool and they work the best with OG stories, but being able to pretty much cohesively tell the stories of these timeless films without a single word of spoken dialog is super fucking commendable.
I know what happens in the prequel movies because of the Lego levels more so than actually watching those movies!
I am from Mexico, and I prefer games with voice lines because those games are dubbed here (not always) and considering that video games almost never have dubbing in Latin American Spanish, except in some cases (in this case, Lego games) it is a detail that I like too much

Pretty difficult to say. My first thought was definitly the old ones. But then I was thinking about Lord of the Rings and how fun it was to 100% it. Really depends. I 100%ed Lego Star Wars and Indy 1 on regular basis back in the day. Just completed? Just starting a new file and again...
I really didn't re100% a newer game except Lego City Undercover. That one is just to brilliant. I did it once on Wii U and once on Switch.

Obviously there’s going to be bias, but I still think many aspects of the old games are better such as the lack of voice acting which I think just fits the simplistic style of Lego better
@@brandongordon8544 Bias. On the "Replayability" category he gave the edge to the older games. This is objectively not true since the newer games have so much more to complete. This is coming from a fan of the older games, btw.

But in terms of this video's categories they should lose. I feel like people are too focused on nostalgia than the actual features etc. I hope you can understand my point.
I personally prefer the voice acting. In the mumble games, I have to explain every cutscene to my little brother whereas he understands what’s going on in the voice-acted games perfectly. And I was in the same boat as my little brother when I was younger
My all time favourite Lego game is superheroes 1 I loved playing that with my brother and visiting the x-mansion and I loved the red bricks and dead pool(even though I didn't unlock him I always wanted to)
New Lego games are too automatic. Old ones, at least until TLOTR were more fun because they made sure that every action had its weight and mechanic. Every movement could be entertaining.
That's why (unpopular opinion) some games that were released for the 3DS and PS Vita were better than their counterparts for big consoles: due to the restrictions in technology, they were less automatic and more "classical". For example Batman 3, although others like The Avengers and even The Lord of the Rings were worse in handheld.

both new and old lego games have their own unique kind of charm. personally i prefer the newer style of lego games, but the old ones are just so fun to mess around with as well, i feel like i can have fun with both types in different ways, and thats what makes lego games so great
Lego batman 1 was the one that introduced me to the lego games. And while i love dc super villains and other newer games, i cant deny the fact that i have more fun with the older games
I love the older lego games mainly because of nostalgia I was in college when the older games came out (showing my age) LOL so brings back a lot of memories from that time but I love the new lego games as well. Lego incredibles is my least favorite though. Also love your videos they are great and your accent 😄 can't wait for new videos about lego star wars

I love some of the new LEGO games, and the old games too. And while I haven't played every single LEGO game, I have played a few, and the original LEGO Batman is still to this day, my favorite LEGO game of all time, and it will likely always be.

Massive marvel fan here that grew up on lego star wars, when lego marvel superheroes came out i put it down almost immediately. In retrospect i have since platted it, but i can still remember it not having the fire that lsw2 tot had
I've loved the LEGO games over the years, a category I would like to add would be the music in the games. I love the music in the games, from Harry Potter, to The Incredibles. Even though I am not a DC fan, I liked the music in LEGO Batman 1. Now for weather I'm a oldie or a newbie for these games, I would have to be a Oldie. I've played a lot of Lego Games over the years; including, LEGO Star Wars II, LEGO Indiana Jones 1 & 2, LEGO Years 1-7 (combining the two games), LEGO Star Wars II, LEGO Marvel Superhero 1 & 2, LEGO Incredibles, & LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean. And maybe that's me but I love the oldies and would replay those games any day.

One of my favorite levels of all time would have to be the mission where you break out of arkham asylum as joker and some other villains in lego dc super villains because of the boss fight with monster man oh my God it was like a horror game!!!
Fun fact: lego batman 2 was actually based on a lego movie called lego batman something (cant remember) but i swear i have that movie at home and its wicked. The movie and the lego game even share the same box art
for me i didnt really play the old games that much but the first one i everplayed was lego batman 2 which was the best experience ive had with a video game back then and i remember me and my friend playing co-op (we never 100% the game sadly)
It wasn't that good on the wii tho. You couldn't do things on it while you could in the xbox
Old vs. New for me is open world hub vs. non open world. But I get using the mumble vs. voice lines too especially because that's what a lot of fans use when describing the older ones and they wanted it to return so much they added it in Skywalker Saga.
To me the biggest thing I miss from the older games were the levels had more to explore. In Complete Saga, Indy or the first Batman there's so many side rooms you can go into to get a minikit and they usually have a fun puzzle to solve while the newer games don't do that anymore. All the minikits are pretty much on the linear path. You may just not have the right character to get it. That would be my biggest wish personally: Having an open world hub world like current games and having bigger, less linear story levels because now I find myself liking the hub world more than the levels. I'd love to love them equally.
Lego Batman 2 and Lego Marvel Superheros were brilliant and I think after them they occasionally got lucky with the games
