Not a Penn State fan, but if you put a roof on that stadium, retractable or otherwise, you will ruin one of, if not the, best environments for college football. It’s a very bad idea.
Beaver stadium upgrades are necessary and WAY over due. There's no reason a program like Penn State can't afford this. Also the retractable roof while a good idea to make Beaver stadium usable year round i don't think is practical.
Is it structurally possible to put a roof in? You'd have to demo and rebuild sections of the stadium around all the footers and steelwork. Snow load would be crazy.
Schools have pressured players for surgery for decades. No big deal. The huy with mental health issues, if he was no longer able to help the team, it would make sense to free his scholarship. This whole lawsuit seems absurd.
Beaver stadium is not only an open air stadium from the top, it's an open air stadium from all sides. A retractable roof makes no sense unless you are going all around and enclosing the stadium. Besides, I'm no engineer, but it does not even look feasible to build a roof on the current structure.
Half of the stadium still uses original framing from when Beaver existed on the west side of campus near the Nittany Lion Inn. Stop speaking jibberish about a roof when you have no clue how it would impact the existing systems in place.
$700 million???!!! You might as well build a brand-new one. It's really pricey for a reno. Build a brand new state of the art stadium. The only issue is that it would be very hard to have a 100k-seat stadium with club seating. Penn State makes it work because its mostly bleachers. With bleachers, whenever you want to increase capacity, all you do is erase the 6 thru 10 and make 6 thru 12 squeezing more people on every bench. If you've ever been to a penn state game it's almost impossible to sit shoulder to shoulder cause they squeeze so many people per bench.
We're talking WAAYYYYY ahead of ourselves guys, #1 Beaver Stadium again is backlogged on $200 Million dollars first and foremost, we have to complete prior to even considering any advancements, #2 listening to our fan base, the fan base requesting enhanced and more amenities (concessions, restrooms, merchandise, etc.) More POC sales and locations...ADA regulation concerns need to be made to the stadium as well as some areas are failing...and I havent even talked about ways to recuperate additional revenue to pay for these upgrades...you're talking about a roof maybe AT LEAST 10-20 years from now
Your wrong. Number 1 this stadium may not last that long and 2 the longer you wait the more its going to cost they projected it will cost an additional 40 million for every year you wait. I am not sure the stadium could hold the weight of a roof plus snow that stadium was built in the 60's.
Amazing Jay Paterno opposed the upgrade. “ The football program pays the bills.” ( Joe Paterno). Let’s be honest, no one is spending 8 or 9 figures for a new or renovated McCoy (especially when swimmers have to be paid ( on top of travel coaches etc). It is interesting to note the lead plaintiff in the House Lawsuit ( Tom House) was a swimmer at ASU). I can see sports like swimming that < 1% of the population care about, getting knocked down to club level.
Leave the taxpayers out of this! We already subside the university via state funding! Coach Franklin makes more money than the governor of Pennsylvania! NIL is good for a metropolitan area but Penn State is located in a mid-size city.
OMG get real!! Can't figure out why losing NIL battle?? Like M, won't pay up front $ that all sleez prog do!! Big NO on retractable roof! This is football not basketball! Weather is big factor in northern fball! Don't sissify fball w a roof! Go look how many Roofed NFL teams have a roof!! None! I mean totally roofed not w hole in middle like Rams & Dallas.
Penn State is damned if they do and damned if they don't , I really believe that the only way this stadium should renovated is if the Football team wins a national championship in the next two years, barring that Penn State is already reeling from CJF's ridiculous salary and what that does to go into this type of project with revenue dropping around the country for many teams because of the dip in attendance numbers , us fans are pretty loyal but we are not rich and when we are budgeting for our everyday lives it's gets harder and harder to rationalize the expense of going to Beaver stadium !

If they did put a roof it would be the loudest stadium on earth!

Skip the roof and buy out Franklin. Move forward, he's had waaaay too long to win. Horrible coaching, horrible.

Does Jay Paterno support anything for football these days?
700 million is crazy money to spend
Northwestern is spending a BILLION on a new Ryan Field, so not so crazy.
It's a must do.
For renovations yes. USC and Washington spent about 350 million when they did their stadiums. That's alot
@@davidbrown386true but that's a new State of the art stadium from scratch for northwestern

A retractable roof would drive up the price of renovations. Though your thought process is sound
Jay Paterno didn’t vote at all…
Half of the stadium still uses original framing from when Beaver existed on the west side of campus near the Nittany Lion Inn. Stop speaking jibberish about a roof when you have no clue how it would impact the existing systems in place.
If you do a retractable roof, fine!!! But, always open for football, the weather and elements are part of football!!! WE ARE

The stadium will last not spending so much on renovations if it won't last
Beaver stadium was built as a temporary stadium
Retractable roof be good for wrestling team at Beaver
Zach hits all the important points. Excellent.

Zach got it wrong. Jay wasn't one of the 2 no votes. He abstained because he was involved in another option that had been rejected.
The natatorium was out of date the day it was built.
Tax payers WTF
Is a retractable roof even in the conversation? Or are you just talking?
Leave the taxpayers out of this! We already subside the university via state funding! Coach Franklin makes more money than the governor of Pennsylvania! NIL is good for a metropolitan area but Penn State is located in a mid-size city.
If you are going to charge me more. Pay the players.
A retractable roof? Really?
Jay didn't vote at all
Doesn't Syracuse have an enclosed stadium. Absolutely retractable roof!
OMG get real!! Can't figure out why losing NIL battle?? Like M, won't pay up front $ that all sleez prog do!!

I agree buddy!!! Football is supposed to have weather like that!!!! Fact, no roof please 🙏!!!! WE ARE
ROTFALMAO Life is risky.

Losing by 2 touchdown to wvu is crazy
