As of the end of August 2024, a new Speccy has been anounced by Retro Games UK, the makers of the Atari 400, C64 mini and maxi and the Amiga mini.
Its price is set about the £89 mark.
It's the rubber key model, but supports 128k, albeit no Next support just now.
Question is: Do I get one of these Next clones, or the new RG SPECCY in November, or even drop a Pi Pico on that spare Speccy case I have?
I notice that great Aliens Neo Plasm game (128k) is available on the Next too.
With support for the original 128k mode, (I love the sound chip), this Next clone is really appealing.
The Next game library is miniscule compared to the original Speccy library of course, but this x berry unit, might be sensible future proofing of a retro system I've recently got back into, playing games like Neo Plasma, Bloktris 128, Buzzsaw (a Pac Attack clone) Pacman (updated) and some other classic arcade games such as asteroids, that I like.
    Decisions, decisions.

That Next Scramble game reminds me of Rabbit Software's Skramble, for C64. Oh Matron!

Hi! Did you end up inserting a battery for the rtc clock? I noticed you left an unused battery inside the package box. Is the XBERRY PI's TF card reader still available to the system, while using the TF card reader on the PI Zero? Is the microSD card only used for external storage, or is the OS filesystem also stored in there? I thought the OS was embedded like in the old days.

I havnt fitted the battery, the pi zero has its own os, you do t store any files on there, all user files are on the mucrosd used in the xberry pi..... Worth noting that it will still work without the pi zero but you lose the extra abilities like tzx, sid , midi etc

Can't make my mind up between one of these or a n-go fitted in a plus case

I have both ( made a recent video on the official n-go mechanical keyboard case ) The n-go is more expensive and contains an expansion port but the xberry is very neat

Very cool!! Do you think that you can plug in a USB keyboard to the Raspberry pi? I don't like the ps keyboards. Thanks for sharing!

Think it depends on the keyboard, many usb keyboards actually transmit the ps2 encoding so using a USB to ps2 adapter it *should* work

@CaptainCommodore I was thinking of connecting the USB cable into the pi instead of a converter. Thanks for your reply
