- In this video we present the case of a 17-month-old female who presented to the emergency department with a heart rate over 200 beats/minute. She was treated successfully with a single 15 second application of ice to her entire face.
This video is an improved and shortened revision of an earlier version. - Наука
Great teaching videos. Especially the last slides cleared questions that I had.
Excellent!!
Thanks doctor, i still remember using ice pack in ER tv series by dr Carter when is was little :) (in an adult patient, then we learned it has a higher rate of success in children) and finally i saw it used successfully in real life. Thanks alot.for your excellent videos.
You are welcome!! Thanks for the compliment!
This is amazing! Thank you for sharing.
You are welcome!
Great case . Lot to learn from Guru !
Thank you for the kind words!
Isn’t this called divers reflex? Something left over in our animal brains to lower heart rate when plunging into cold water?
Yes it is.
God I miss the ER. I learned you could use glucogon to treat a stuck food bolus in the throat
Glucagon isn't great for this job and often fails, but we still often try it.
The amount of “off label” use of drugs has got to be highest in the ED 😂
Awesome
I’m 68 and just diagnosed with SVT. Not sure what to do.
Your cardiologist should be able to help you. This is a very common condition and treatment options are excellent. Best of luck!
I've had since 18yrs. Of age..I'm now 55...it can suck sometimes..but get with doc about meds and foods..😊😊..I don't take meds for mine...made me feel worse..😫😫
Just carry an ice pack around mate
I just got treated with a catheter ablation procedure for SVT & any other issues by my cardiologist who specializes in cardiac electrical rhythms.
I started out having symptoms that I thought were related to hormones before and during period week.
That was 2-3 years ago. My primary cardiologist did heart monitor testing, medications, more heart monitor testing, medication adjustments, and it helped some….
But the symptoms were still happening.
I couldn’t confidently workout & challenge my physical limitations or even change sitting to standing without racing & fluttering heart beats that took my breath away.
He finally referred me to my current cardiologist specialist. She did her testing and listened to my side of things and recommended an ablation.
She explained it and said I can think about it and decide if wanted to do it. I said let’s do it. It was scheduled 4 months out and she said I can ask tons of questions and still decide to cancel.
I didn’t cancel. I did the procedure under general anesthesia & got a loop recorder ( heart monitor implant under the skin ) 12/7/23.
The main goal was to find and treat SVT & look for any other issues and correct them as well.
Follow up is 12/13/2023.
So far no SVT symptoms, but time will tell if it worked.
Definitely talk with your cardiologist. They will give you the information and next possible steps.
Best wishes to your heart health! ❤
Your cardiologist will see what is appropriate most likely an ablation. As far as trying to break it yourself you could try bearing down or blowing hard into a straw or like here a sudden shock of cold water to the face. Otherwise may need medications at the ER or other treatment
hey doc, if propanolol is given at 2mg/kg/24 divided in 3 doses... would a patient weighting 66 lbs be 30 mg divided by 3 be 10 mg every 8 hours orally until 3rd dose?
I take propranolol for anxiety lol
Well, your heart is also protected, right? :-)
