Yeah, I don’t like Carnival for that reason. Geez! He’s too elderly to start a fight w/younger men. Obviously, this guy wasn’t enjoying his vacation so he targeted this blogger. Sad!
Yep, sounds like one of those people who try to get you to hit them in the rear while driving so they can blame you and get at your insurance. Some people are evil!
I’m glad others came to your defense. I know if someone tells me they don’t want to be filmed, I would also try hard to ensure I respected their wishes (and deleted any accidental background shots in post). But to come across the ship and stand in front of someone’s camera and deliberately make a scene sounds like he just wanted to start something.
If you are in a public place, people will use their cameras. Unless someone is actively filming you and only you, just go hide in your cabin as you are a lowlife, miserable human being.
Def. gives me hope for society.
I am not condoning or condemning that particular situation because I wasn't there. However, I can see both sides of the argument but I would like to point out one glaring component that was left out. As a paying customer on a private ship, that has no truly "public" areas that non paying customers can access, there is a legal reasonable expectation of NOT being filmed for profit vs being filmed for security, personal and even minor public use. This is why in the US there are actually strict federal and state laws that require a person/company filming specifically for profit to obtain not only consent but also to compensate each and every single person on the film/picture that can be identified (level of identification is extremally debatable). Press purposes of course are excluded. There may be the argument that the video was taken on a foreign flagged ship however under US law it's not where the film was made but where it is published that dictates if consent and compensation are required. Whether or not this is "Press" or "for profit" or some hybrid would be an interesting court case. That's why many RUclipsrs get consent on video and often compensate people that are on those videos directly to avoid any issues. I also can't say I have ever seen J directly film someone that didn't want to be part of the show. Love the show and keep up the good work.
J wasn’t filming when the old geezer approached him. He went out of his way to start trouble. Clearly it was the old man’s intention to seek out J, find him & accost him. I’m glad J handled the situation with professionalism, respect & dignity.

Obviously you're well versed in legal protocol but regardless of filming rules and regulations that man was aggressive and hostile and could be considered threatening. Uncalled for, against cruise line policy and he could be removed for it. Be safe and blessed😊
Jay, I’m convinced that man had his mind made up to take out his personal issues out on you while he wait for that time to make his move. I’m just thankful for good people that came to support you! We need more Good Samaritans to be willing to speak up, because it’s all our problem, in this crazy world we living in! We never know who the next victim will be, and who will pay it forward by coming to another victim’s aide. I’m glad you are ok, and shake this off, but keep both eyes open. Hi JAY. You were definitely in the right here as it was described. I have had experience with the “crazy people” out there as a former real estate appraiser. Since the mid 80’s banks have required us to take pictures of the comparable sales we use in the report. This naturally requires us to drive by and take a picture of someone’s house from the public street. I have had my wife called several times by the police inquiring about the pictures, I have been chased by irate people and accused of taking pictures with a super spy camera that could see thru walls and into where the guys wife was taking a shower, and even had one guy reach inside my car window and try to steel my camera out of my hand. I say all this to warn you that people will do crazy things and to be careful. ❤ you videos guy. Keep up the great work and

As a part-time agent who primarily sails on one cruise line (partly because of their loyalty program), I value your postings because I don't have much experience on the other lines and I want to assist my clients with choosing the cruise line and itineraries which best match their needs and likes. I’m elderly, but I hate some of those elderly who think they are entitled to wait on them hand and foot while on a cruise by the dining staff, rude to them and demanding they get their food for them.
It never ceases to amaze me how rude people are. It costs nothing to be nice. So sorry you had to deal with this guy and other rude people, not to mention rude commenters. You are such a good guy and deserve much better.

One can not expect privacy in a PUBLIC place!
It appears that this person came out of nowhere and caused a scene. It was wrong to do so. And, let’s be clear. It was a place of business, in an open SPACE, available to all who are patrons of the business. That’s very different from a “public place.”
That’s where businesses need to manage policy so that if your right NOT to be filmed on their premises is compromised, then it needs to be written into their cruise contracts.

I totally feel you with "sometimes these rants are necessary", J! I am glad some kind folks came up and backed you up. I try to be as unobtrusive as possible when I film, even putting myself in the position of having to edit out long sections where I quickly dropped my camera view to the ground or put it to my chest because somebody was giving me the evil eye, but thankfully, some people have actually told me that they spotted themselves in one of my videos and it actually makes them really excited! RUclips IS a real job and don't let the people who tell you otherwise get to you (although I know it's really annoying!). The people that do and say the things that prompt the rants don't understand how it works and don't know what they're talking about.

Imagine if a video came on about another fight on a Carnival ship and there was The Shiplife knocking an old Ken out ( I’m assuming that), no bad intentions. It would have put a whole new meaning to What and the Carnival is going on? That’s our little thing J. Lol 😂. Seriously, I’m thankful that it smoothed over. It’s unfortunate how some people can act sometimes.

Sounds like you were minding your own business and were literally doing your job. You shouldn’t have to explain yourself but sounds like you handled it with class. Good for you! As someone who works for a production company, I go through this often. I love showing my credentials and watching the look on their faces. Even then they still have something to say. My response....if you're not going to sign a waiver, then you need to clear the area

People seem to forget the cruise line is taking pictures and filming them at all times. They're already being used.
You have a REAL hard job, and we appreciate your hard work. You enable us to have a more enjoyable vacation and we appreciate you. If an individual does not want to be film, said individual should not cruise!

Filming out on deck during a port day when no one's around is certainly your business, but I was on Mardi Gras last year during our specialty dinner and a RUclips blogger and his wife sat next to us and the crew didn't seem too happy about it. It didn't bother us much but it wasn't exactly a mood enhancer either. We ended up getting some special treats complements of the chef right in front of them lol. I for one appreciate your take on other cruise ship lines since I've only sailed Carnival when I was young and MG last year.
I think this person's behavior towards you was very rude and unprofessional. He could have talked to the staff beforehand to make sure they get a quiet table and don't disturb anybody. But filming a person unwanted over hours while the person is eating is just rude in my eyes. And here in Germany it's definitely against the law even in a public place. Especially if he plans on publishing the content. It was very nice of you to put up with it. And the reaction of the staff towards you showed they felt the same. All the best wishes to you ❤
I do think close shots should receive permission whereas general panning of a public space seems different. It seems there would be privacy issues. But it should be addressed with mutual respect.
I’ve seen and heard this “no cameras” behavior before, and from what I’ve seen, it is usually older white men who feel specially privileged wherever they go. This is outright prejudice by older adults toward anything youthful/unfamiliar. I doubt he complained about the cruise ship’s camera surveillance. Unfortunately, people like you who make their living with a camera are subjected to harassment. Just because you took the high road and didn’t respond in kind doesn’t mean this behavior shouldn’t be recognized and called out.
I can hardly believe people exist who cannot enjoy a cruise.

I was on a Royal Caribbean cruise, taking pictures over the side of the boat. A guy came up next to me amd said, 'What would you do if I hit u our hand and you dropped that phone?' I said, 'I would be pretty pissed and imform ship's security that you did it. and then sue you in small claims court.' So he says, 'Yeah man I get that' So I tightened my grip on my phone and luckily I had a strap on my phone that I slipped my pinkie through. Sure enough, he bumps into me really hard, but acted like he just stumbled into me. I didn't drop my phone, but he did laugh about it. Saw I didn't drop my phone, then holds his hand out and introduced himself like we would be best buddies that cruise. So I walked away and his girlfriend of course chastised him for ruining what could have been 2 couples hanging out amd he said 'Baby I tried. He doesn't want to be friends. What can I do?' and she obviously chastised him further for his stupid remarks and stunt. I did report him to security who already knew who he was because he had made lewd comments to a couple of female passengers at the terminal, tried stealing a drink from a passenger, got caught and acted like he was joking, threatened to fight another guy who was wearing a Giants hat because he was an Eagles fan, plus his cell phone routine was tried out on someone else and they almost dropped their phone, but their kid caught it became was hanging out over the railing below his dad. Some people just go out of their way to be A-holes

@@mamadeborah1999 we hadn't even left port yet so he was removed from the cruise ship. It delayed us for about 30 minutes. His girlfriend was livid at him. You could hear her screaming at him the whole time security was escorting him off. So a bunch of were clapping as he was walking down the stairs to the terminal. He turned and gave us the finger, pulled his pants down and smacked his butt then laughed about it. To him it was a game or something. Just a world class A-hole. We had a bunch on that cruise though. I've talked about it before. We were on the ghetto cruise from hell.

One of my biggest peeves with people in a public area who can't mind their own business! What you were doing had no correlation to that passenger. He had his own personal feelings about vloggers that had nothing to do with you but you just so happened to be in his line of sight and he had targeted you!
Kudos to you for handling it as professionally and as courteously as you did. Some may not have been so kind. Thankfully people were paying attention and stuck up for you!! I love when people get called out for their bad behaviors and self entitlement!!

We have been in about 12 or 13 Volg recording by many different people. I think it is great when it happens because we have never tried to get in the recordings.

You have always shown respect to all, from all the videos I have watched J. At 63, an older gentleman called me a young whippersnapper. It was kind of a good feeling, I took the chastisement like a man. I said, yes sir, sorry.
I was looking at RUclips videos like yours to get overviews to make good cruise choices. During one of those searches I saw a person posted a video from the cruise I was on. When I watched the video there was my wife and I sitting drinking a coffee and playing cards. I remember now seeing a woman taking a video on her phone so I guess that’s it. I’m an oldish guy 66 too but did not confront her as it’s a public place and I’m not self entitled and paranoid. Keep up the good work, I guess I’m a RUclips “star” now. 😂

Some RUclipsrs or TikTokers can get annoying. We were in the colosseum in Rome and girls were constantly trying to do their dances or their Instagrams and they expected you to respect the space all around them. F that. The place is packed. If I need to walk between you and the camera I will. I've never seen you be anything other than respectful.
OMG people at the colosseum are the worst! I had a run in with a crusty jackass who was standing behind us and yelled at me for ruining his shot. How about don’t stand behind me and try to take pictures! Wait your turn! We were literally taking a quick photo like normal people. I’m still annoyed at that man 5 years later.

Interesting. Parkers On The Go had a somewhat similar situation on their cruise a little over a weeks ago. It was an older ship too. Glad there were others around who were able to speak to the situation on your behalf while you were handling the situation.

Hi, Jay. Thanks again for another insightful video. Yep, looks like the old man was just trying to be an ass. Glad the other cruisers came to your defense. I subscribe to other You Tube vloggers that do First Ammendment audits. When one is in public, legally there is no expectation of privacy. Now, that being said I experienced an intrusion of my privacy a couple of weeks back. While sitting outside my home on the rear patio, a drone came flying by and stopped to hover about ten feet off the ground over my neighbors yard. Two wood fences separate our properties. The drone was approximately fifty feet away. This was an intrusion. I didn't contact the Police however it pissed me off. There is a time and place for everything. A cruise ship is private however has open public spaces. You have every right to film in public, the eyes cannot trespass. If people don't like it, they can go to their room. They got options.
Nobody that deliberately walks into frame "doesn't want to be filmed". What they want is to disrupt your right to film anything.

I remember a few years ago while reading the fine print of a Norwegian cruise contract it stated that guests can be photographed or video recorded by NCL, crew or other guests. There is no expectation of privacy in public areas of the ship.

I would never know what is currently happening in the cruise industry or be interested in it without your help. I appreciate your hustle. Ignore that man, he's not used to this modern era. Everyone has cameras nowadays. He is a jerk.
Jobs aren't what they used to be where you had no other choice but to work your butt off for another person's profit, were told to ignore your talents and that your only purpose in life was to be controlled by others. You work just as hard as anyone else, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

There are some people who look for reasons to cause trouble or maybe he’s had a bad experience with social media before. I watched your videos for quite a while now and you are always professional. I will say though that you have to always make a dig at the loyal to Royal people. I doubt if he fell into that group. If you were going to try to compare, you wouldn’t likely go to Carnival’s oldest class of ship. Sorry that happened to you.

Yeah, that guy was REALLY risky in his actions, because in most situtions it would had gotten nasty!! I don't condone fighting but his actions was borderline for self defense!! People have gotten extremely BOLD & ENTITLED in the last few years!! Those witnesses were a blessing in disguise!!

I had a ‘gentleman’ come up to me at dinner on a cruise recently and asked if I was filming at that time. I had my Insta360 on a tripod on our table, and one of the lenses was ‘pointing’ across the aisle toward his table. I turned the camera 90 degrees so it was no longer pointed in his direction, and that made him happy! LOL
