“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.”- Bob Marley
Bob inspired me to play guitar. He’s my hero. I’m seeing One Love later this week.😊👊🏾🎸🇯🇲
Bob Marley’s story has alot more depth than what this movie portrayed
Did you even watch?
Agreed. Should've been a mini series
The movie was about Exodus & Concert, not entirely a biopic
So did James Brown but like Get own up this wasn't supposed to be a autobiographical in that way
@@cram2979 director wanted to cover just 2 years. I hope theres a sequel
Jamaican here, watched it in Jamaica with a bunch of other Jamaicans. The actor that played Bob Marley was superb. The movie was meh, but the actor was great. At one point in the movie, an audience member shouted, "Go Deh Bob", and the entire audience cheered their stamp of approval.
Its kinda obvious if you watched it in Jamaica, there would be other Jamaicans there with you.
Agree that he was a great actor in the movie.
Jamaican have better taste than americans. All american critics are marvel biased. But i respect korey and martin. I found the same problems with straight out of compton so martin shluld be consistent. Audiences love this one.
@@trent7736 there’s always that one mf in the replies 🤦🏾♂️
I was tapping my toes when he would sing. The actors and the story was great.
I disagree about the actor Kingsley Ben-Adir not sounding good as Bob Marley. To me, he was convincing. Even Jamaicans said he did the accent better than Lashanda Lynch who played as Rita who is part Jamaican herself. I enjoyed this movie for what it was. I think some people are misunderstanding this movie. It's not a full blown biopic. It's a movie that talked about the most catastrophic couple years of his life and his impact on Jamaica. Even I understood that going into the movie. 8/10 from me. This movie was powerful and it moved me. What more could I ask for?
💯
Felt the same way...this movie was about Bob facing death, and understanding the legacy he wanted to leave...
If you came a way thinking it didn't say anything...you weren't paying attention to the film.
Kingsley was great.
I totally agree. That's how I felt as well. It's definitely not a perfect movie by any means and there are some things I would've included in the movie but as far as what they gave us, nothing was wrong and I felt like I learned more about Bob Marley because I didn't know a thing about him besides his music.@@mickiemallorie
Maybe to a Jamaican from new york or something.
No these were Jamaicans from actual Jamaica @@eliek2014
Totally agree. His accent was on point. Which other foreign actor can master Jamaican patois in that manner.....Oscar for Kingsley!!
Bob Marley WAS young. LOL. He died at 36. They made it sound like he lived to be 90.
😅 so true
Biopics are a PAINTING not a PHOTOGRAPH
I think this may be the best way to describe biopics
I’m a big fan of Marley and felt disappointed and not because of the acting. My wife knows nothing about Bob Marley and enjoyed it. That should tell you everything
That's exactly what they did. They focused on a 2 years of his life that were major. This movie was awesome. Word to the family.
Well at least Bob Marley didn't die researching spiders, in the Amazon
Lmao
😂😂😂
Nah. You're corny.
Gawddamn 😂😂
@DianoiaNoesis I do get it. It's still corny. This dude just wants to feel cool hating on the Madame Web movie.
I loved this movie. The cinematography and the sound was amazing and I thought this movie had heart and inspiration. THAT’S what I was looking for and the movie delivered. I don’t care about comparing to other biopics. The audience was singing at the end of the movie during the credits
Finally! Someone with good taste
This was a decent film! this was strange because it didn’t feel so much like a biopic. But like a small period in his beautiful life..
For a legend it was just simply underwhelming ! Had a good time tho
Because it wasn't meant to be a biopic. Like you said it's centered around a specific time in his life
Thats not Bob Marley thats a damn skrull
The real Secret Invasion. Seen.
Lol
It wasn't supposed to be
😂
😂😂😂
This movie wasnt necessarily a biopic. Its just focused on a specific time period in Bob's life.
Jamaican here. Kingsley was an excellent bob Marley. Most Jamaicans will agree. Stopped the video at 4:37. Movie was a 7 but Kingsley did a phenomenal job, way better than we were expecting
I actually liked the actor who played Bob Marley, he did a great job
Agreed
@@parareefaelias656 I did enjoy the movie
@@jarrodedson5441 so did most people. Critics have a pro marvel bias and anti musuc biopics bias but they were wrong about bohemian rhapsody and jamaican rhapsody. Both movies much better than most marvel movies
@@parareefaelias656 no kidding
One thing we talked about when we left the theater, was what else did you need to see? Fight with manager? Every artists fight their manager. Cheating? Been told dozens of times now. Falls in love with music? Every music biopic deals with that.
One Love...literally tells the story of Bob's love for Jamaica (via his music and wife). You know this because the flashbacks exclusively dealt with him falling in love with Rita (and his kids with Rita) and Jamaica (and Roots reggae)
When u view this film through that lens, its a damn good film. Not great, but better than your average musician biopic.
Temptations has more depth and range than this
Wrong Kingsley Ben Adir was excellent as Bob. The movie should've been longer but I loved it
Martin hit it spot on,I left there Friday and said”hmmmm I didn’t learn anything from this movie and it feels like something was missing and it’s jumping around and no explanation”but I didn’t have a problem with the lead actor
The 2012 documentary was my look into his personal life and I think it was pretty good. I decided not to watch this movie because of that. I have been looking for more good media tho
I disagree with martin. The same complains he has with bohemian rhapsody are appliable to straifht out of compton
Martin opinion on eonka didnt align with box office. Korey nailed it with wonka. And by budget alone one love already beat deadpool 3 ay the box office.
@@nebraskawaters8791 I have to check that out
Not a biopic. It was about events leading up to peace concert.
Also not true that they didn't mention his other women. There's literally a big scene with Rita & Bob arguing. Did y'all even watch the movie?
I'm starting to wonder if th3y did
Disagree with the hosts!..the movie was awesome
Maybe the dialect went over their heads
Kingsley Ben-Adir is trying to catch up to Chadwick Boseman sith playing iconic black figures. Chadwick played Jackie Robinson, James Brown, and Thurgood Marshall and Kingsley coming in hot with President Obama, Malcolm X, and now Bob Marley.
It’s by-the-numbers as far as biopics go…but the way they told Bob’s story was still interesting
This movie is love. You feel it pouring from the screen. I bout cried every time I heard a song. It hit in a way that just words alone can't express
Went to watch the movie. It was great!! All races and culture was there.
I don't know why they kept making music biopics after the release of Walk Hard: the Dewey Cox Story. They NEVER change the formula.
At least Rocketman had some elements of fantasy. The "Crocodile Rock" scene is the first example that comes to mind. I was going to mention Weird: The Al Yankovic Story but that's a parody of biopics.
Like superhero movies?
Because capitalism
Easy money
Love and Mercy and Rocketman were the exceptions.
In general, still feels like documentaries are the right way to go re most Biopics! However, the audience with its A CinemaScore, 91% PostTrak & 93% RT Audience Scores really embraced the movie with its $51.5m domestic opening despite its at best 'mixed' critical reviews!
Critics rated guardians b of the galaxy over bohrmian rapsody and one love. The bias is obvious. They have poor taste too.
I didn’t enjoy it, but I hope it makes a BUNCH of money.
@@Iggystar71 It should have a good 2nd wkend coming up but its 3rd wkend against Dune 2's domestic opening will be interesting.
Mark my words. Dune will outperform deadpool and when korwy watches this movie hell enjoy it! Sounds like he disnt becausr he didnr make a single joke or dgiw the trailer.
Dune will beat deadpool
Man i went into this with so much doubt but that Bin Adir was outstanding as Bob Marley.
The last bio pic I liked was Rocket Man. It was different in it's story telling.
I’m still going to see the movie. Just bc I am already a fan of his music since I was a child and his impact on the world. His children are so talented as well. I’m not surprised they wouldn’t understand it bc Korey and Martin didn’t know Bob history prior so they wanted a history essay over doing research on their own. Bob is black history to inspire world peace and unity that we need to know about right now. It’s a movie of entertainment so I’m watching it through that lens. Not a biopic but a celebration of his life and love for Jamaica 🇯🇲 ❤
Earlier this week, I re-watched "Straight Outta Compton," and "Ray." Both of these biopics I enjoyed (even though some minor details were incorrect). In this review of "One Love" they said it: you have to communicate how EPIC the person / group is, and you also can't be afraid to show the ugly /uncomfortable part of their lives. I believe these two things are keys to making the movie great. My opinion, these new biopics play it WAY too safe.
Saw it yesterday. Was a decent biopic. Kingsley was amazing as Uncle Bob and so was Lyshanna as Rita. I probably won't go see it in cinemas again but ill get it on blu ray when it releases.
I liked it and didn’t even realize that was dude from secret invasion until afterwards
Even Behind the Music on VH1 has so much depth on Bob Marley.
You know what? Everything I know about Marley is probably from that episode.
Documentaries on RUclips do too
@@Iggystar71 especially the story behind one of my favorite songs “Turn Your Lights Down Low.”
As a huge Bob Marley fan, I really enjoyed this film. This was the first movie to educate me on the Rastafaranism Religion and the true message behind his music that was so much bigger than him that continues to live on decades later.
I knew nothing about his wife, how many people got shot during his assassination attempt and the story behind the Exodus Album, but the film should have been called Exodus since it focuses so much on that album.
People were singing his songs during and after the film and it was a perfect Valentines Day movie that focused on love and unity.
Both of you knew nothing about Bob Marley. Why are they critiquing it? The old guy:How come he knew nothing about Bob Marley? You shouldn’t be speaking! Everyone should go see the movie, it was good!
Just got back, it was phenomenal.
I have not seen the biopic, but I read Rita Marley's biography, 'No Woman No Cry,' about her life with Bob. She gave all the tea that this movie didn't provide, including him cheating on his wife with dozens of women, etc. I hoped the director/production would have used her book to reference their life together.
This movie was great! Kingsley Ben-Adir did a bloody fantastic job! I saw the film with a massive Bob Marley fan-my husband!- He really enjoyed it too! Peace
The movie was excellent! The man they got to play Bob Marley, Kingsley, did a superb job. He nailed the accent I think and he worked hard you can tell. I can understand the criticism but I really enjoyed it.
Im just glad the film is getting buzz underneath the mess that had been Argyle and Madame Web. I hope it does great in the Box Office.
I didn’t learn hardly anything from this movie. It felt like this movie was more about Bob Marley the brand. The person who’s face is just plastered on Iced Tea, rolling papers, and tie dye shirts than the actual person.
It’s now one of the top 5 biopics ever made. 🙌🏽🇹🇹
Looking up the writers of this movie, I’m not surprised by this review
Guys, there was a line that addressed him sleeping with other women in the movie. His wife calls him out on it at one point.
I found it boring like Martin said it was very flat not exciting. The Doors (1991) Val Kilmer portraying Jim Morrison director Oliver Stone Yes 👍 😀
How are you Bob Marley, Malcolm x, and obama 😂😂😂
The movie is amazing. So magical. The man. The story. The bond with Rita and the kids. The music. Just magical. Bobby, the one and only. For a year I lived in Jamaica and danced to your music. And... I would give anything to be at your show. Everything.
Lashana Lynch a gorgeous woman!
If you want to learn about the True essence of Bob Marley his life and music check out the excellent 2012 Documentary MARLEY ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
3:24 he looks more like bob marley than the guy in the movie does...🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂
That’s the guy who played Bob Marley in the movie
Couldn't disagree more with Martin about Kingsley. He was amazing. Oh & btw, his heritage is of Trinidadian descent, so he's British Caribbean not just British., so he probably has an ear for accents in that legion due to family & friends. Trust me, to people of Caribbean descent, it's obvious he nailed it. And why didn't you talk about the director, Reinaldo Marcus Green whose more successfully executed, previously directed film led to Will Smith's first Oscar... on that fateful day?
The moment i saw him being shown as a good dad TWICE in the trailer i knew this was gonna be washed out and scared to touch the topic of how many kids he had with other women and how he wasn't there for them
Two things can be true at once, he was a good father & a womanizer
So you're going to say Kingsley's portrayal of Bob Marley isnt good but you know little nothing about Bob Marley? Make that make sense?
I actually enjoyed this style of "biography". The music just kept on coming and vibing. I also don't know much about Bob and I enjoyed it. Actor playing Bob was great in my eyes, blended well with the real Jamaicans to me.
I love Bob Marley He's the one who is still teaching me how to roll the ULTIMATE JOINT! One last thought.; do we need a Marvin Gaye movie?
Martin you and my hubby who is Jamaican agreed that Kingsley Ben-Adir was not good at playing the great Bob Marley. I thought he did a great job 🤷🏾♀️. For me I wanted more especially when my hubby give me a whole history lesson on Bob Marley.
Jamaican biggest opening ever. If jamaican people like it means he did a great job.
Jamaicans love this movie. Actor miat have nailed it.
@@parareefaelias656 I thought so as well Ben-Adir did an amazing job. I think this would have worked perfect on Netflix or Hulu 6 part series. If you’re going to do a biopic I want you to tell the whole story the good, the bad and the ugly. Don’t leave nothing out.
The actors did great very convincing in their representation of Bob and Rita. , the movie was good, Bob Marley was a phenomenal human! Oscar nomination worthy for the acting by Kingsley and Lashana. You guys are wrong
I REALLY enjoyed the BOB MARLEY movie!
Thanks for sharing this movie review, y'all. That's my mom's favorite artist, and I am happy that I was introduced to it.
I disagree I think Kingsley did a wonderful job with the film . I think the screenplay could have been richer.
Glad im not the only one that felt this way about the movie. It wasnt a bad time, i enjoyed the music and his youth journey. I did learn somethings... but it was too damn short, and the ending just felt abrupt. I wanted more, 1H47M is not enough time to truly understand the message. The movie was just cliff notes but it didnt make me think on anything.
The British actors are getting all the roles.
THE MOST REASONABLE REVIEW. RAW TRUTH.
This is my fear with the new MJ biopic. It’s going to be a jukebox movie
So, "if you cannot afford to capture that kind of scope, you center on a certain slice of life of that character." Which is exactly what they did. SMH This movie is not meant to be a full biopic. It was always meant to be about that 2 year period, 1976 to 1978, which was a major turning point for him.
Bob didn't force the kids around him to listen to him playing the guitar. The kids love him and people naturally gravitates towards him. And how the hell can you not know about Bob yet critic Kingsley performance who has understudied Bob????
Great movie, great acting imo.
Big Marley fan.. This wasn't really a biopic to me.. Felt like a cinematic documentary about Exodus and nullifying the pending the civil war... Lashana Lynch BODIED her role though.. She has insane range.. I'mma support whatever she's in.
The movie was ok and I really wanted to see it because I wanted to know the true story of him. Only thing I wanted more because I didn't feel like it didn't give me anything about his life only clips. Excellent performances by the lead actor and supporting cast.
I definitely agree with you guys. I felf like there was more to be shown but just couldn't. Like the beginning and ending text crawl kinda bugged me cause im just sitting there like "thats nice and all but like can I SEE those things and not be told it?" Still enjoyed it at least
Love you guys. Big hug from Mozambique. Your Rocky 3 review remains my fav for a good laugh. 😂
I would have to disagree…he did a great job playing Bob.
Watched the film last night and I felt it was underwhelming as well. Jumped around way too much without much explanation.
42% on Rotten Tomatoes
“Kingsley Ben-Adir does an admirable job in the central role, but Bob Marley: One Love is ultimately a standard biopic that doesn't do justice to its brilliant subject.”
This just barely won the box office
Had to watch the trailer before every movie last year and knew it was going to be a bad biopic. I love bob he helped me survive my childhood ive even seen his music change a raging racist into a civil rights activist. The actors did not hit the mark. You'll learn and enjoy bob more in documentaries than this im disappointed in this film.
Even though this movie didn’t totally portray Bob well, I do want to buy the soundtrack of the movie when I saw it.
You guys know nothing about Bob Marley but giving reviews 😊😂 funny
I’ve wanted to love it….I wasn’t a fan of the narrative and focus. It seems to drop you into moments of his life without explanation, no build up so that I could make a connection. Time spent on jam sessions instead of focus on Marley. I left out disappointed.
Why were you disappointed? Those Jam Seasons Are Amazing
Same
@@kangel20 I understand
@@lenindominguez1986jam sessions were fantastic. Maybe as a fan...I didn't need a Wikipedia run down of Marley's life. What we got was Bob twice, looking death in the eye, and making peace with the fact that he wouldn't be here forever, and that it was his music that would be his legacy.
@@mickiemallorie absolutely my friend
It's not a bad movie, I enjoyed it for what it was but it never lifts off like Marley's music does.
And the biggest thing that annoyed me is when they do the concerts in Jamaica and it looks like an high school end of year concert.... With like 2000 people in the crowd and the stage is barely 3 feet from the ground.
A documentary about Bob Marley would be better than this movie.
Kingsley did a great job.
Loved him as Malcolm X and he had very stiff competition because Denzel was Malcolm X but still i enjoyed him.
That left me thinking, Kingsley is not Jamaican and played the part of Bob Marley well. Could a younger Denzel Washington have pulled off playing Bob Marley as well? After watching _The Mighty Quinn_ I'm not so sure.
It was bad as a biopic, but the vibes were great. Had me in a great mood the rest of the week. Went home and listened to all my favorite songs all over again.
It probably works best as a rental for most people. That being said, I think it worked in the theater too. Especially since it came out in a month where nothing else was worth watching. I saw it with an almost-full crowd and enjoyed myself. Even the white folk in my audience were clapping along 😂
Wow... they actually had the sense to leave the resident snowflake out of the Bob Marley review. Julian would surely surmise the mention of cannabis to be simple racism against Jamaicans and then admit he'd never heard of Bob Marley.
I’m Jamaican and I wished they discuss more on the women such as miss Jamaica who Bob Marley had Damian Marley with. Also I’m pretty sure some people didn’t know Bob Marley dad was white lol I just found that out a couple years back.
Really happy I can continue to see you guys give unbiased and accurate reviews.
The movie was like an unseasoned piece of undercooked chicken.
Disagree
This is gonna be like the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic. No substance with a character that is hard to replicate and a history that is very complex.
I agree with everything you said Korey, 100%..
ONE LOVE ❤🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
Liked the movie. I thought it was spiritually moving. The words and music Inspire.
Ziggy Marley who executive produced the film said they didn't want someone to protrayed the likeness of his father but his mission
We need a biobic ranking, i still think Straight Outta Compton is the best
I seen the movie last night and it was ok. Not great. But at least it kept me woke.
"I didn't need to see it. I listen to a few songs & read the wiki." - T. Amato 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿
I'm going to be generous on this:
If you are a huge Bob Marley fan (who loved his music): its a high Matinee* or it's a low Full Price**
*Go see it and draw your own conclusions
**Just to bring this up, don't go see this if you are a big Marley Fan
If you're not a Bob Marley fan and just a casual viewer: I'll say It's just a Rental
But for me: its just a Matinee
*Despite some flaws you and Martin just brought it up, Korey*
I completely agree, I didn't get anything out of it , a lot of the flashbacks felt lack luster and didn't push the film forward. I also feel like nobody else really had any dialogue besides Bob and his wife and it didn't let the audience really care for who they were
My only problem with Ben Adir I kept getting pulled away by how big and strong he looked. He looked great and did a brilliant job but kind of wanted to see little skinny bob walk out there and become larger than life and command everyone's attention.. probably just me I'm a huge fan
Martin was not happy with this film
One Love! One Heart! Let’s get together and feel alright
I watched a documentary on him years ago. I left thinking he was kinda a jerk. Especially to his family.
Which one did you watch?
Did you really see it? It sounds like you just read the reviews. Black julian shluld have dressed as bob marley.
