  • This week on Helicopter ER, A herd of cows goes rogue and turns on its stockman, leaving him with life-threatening injuries. The paramedics of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance also fall victim to an elaborate hoax after a climber who claims to have fallen off a cliff face turns out to be unhurt.
Strap in and fire up the helicopter engines for the most adrenaline-packed medical rescue missions you've ever seen on TV. This popular British series takes viewers into the cockpits of ER choppers to experience life or death dramas, high-speed action and colourful characters. The missions are often the only hope for the critically ill or badly injured in England's most unreachable landscapes.

Jail time just costs the tax payers more. He should be put on the no fly list for air ambulance and made to repay every penny (and not from social grant money either) while doing community service in the trauma unit of a hospital. Failure to comply should result in him being sectioned at the expense of his family.

They need to hit him in any and every way it'll hurt. Jail time, community service, fines and made to pay the equivalent amount for what that level of care would cost, plus the pay for each and every worker involved in his rescue and hospital stay. I'm assuming something like that would routinely be covered by the NHS, it absolutely should not be in cases such as this. My dad was a first responder so, I've heard stories, such as this, firsthand. It pisses me off to no end that people would even think to do things like this. I also feel like, if they, or he, want(s) to use mental illness as an excuse, he should be forced to undergo a psych eval and hospitalized/treated accordingly. If he knows right from wrong, mental illness should not be a factor. Millions of people are diagnosed with various mental illnesses, myself included, but I still know what's right and what's wrong and I don't use my issues as an excuse for my bad behaviour.

Also...and I mean no personal offense with this as I’m sure you’re doing the best you can with the hand you’re dealt...on the latter show I got a very strong impression a lot of ambulance calls were happening because of delays getting into the GP or specialists, that would be absolutely unacceptable here in the States. A lot of us are very afraid right now of soon facing a similar situation should the government choose socialized medicine. The difference between the treatment I got for a mental health crisis here in the US, and the insane delays a friend of mine in Germany got with even worse symptoms, is absolutely frightening to me. To prank emergency services never occurred to us, but maybe that was we all knew people who were volunteer responders and firefighters. Even to this day, I prefer to not call emergency numbers, to the point my son has tricked me into it once because he was afraid he couldn't make it in time and wanted me to get care asap. Here you can be charged just for calling 911 for no reason or having an ambulance sent to you for no reason would be way more. I saw another one of these shows about the ambulance service and there were people who called 999 repeatedly all day with nothing wrong and I was blown away how they weren't being charged for making those calls especially to that extent but to think people are able to do that to an air ambulance service without reprocussion is crazy to me.

As for the attack by large animals ... a few snaps from a "stun gun" is fast, cheap, long lasting, and HARMLESS "education" for the beast. They remember the sound of that snap, and go immediately onto their best behavior at the mere sound of it. There is nothing cruel about them. They are only momentarily discomforting, NOT damaging. But they can cause an animal to think and immediately modify their behavior. Lest any think they imagine themselves to be more knowledgeable, I have sat down on one in my truck ... twice. Uncomfortable, certainly; but only for an instant. Unlike the sensation of having s bull do a tap-dance upon one's face, the snap of the spark seems to increase the intelligence and empathy of a half-ton animal, most wonderfully.

The comment about horse riders keeping them busy is super accurate. I jumped in shows from age 10-17 and it is incredibly dangerous. I don’t think my dad realized just how dangerous it was because he was the type of dad who cut my grapes in half until I was 8. If he knew, he never would have let me do it, especially not jumping 4’ jumps at high speeds. I was lucky enough to never get seriously injured but I did have a couple really scary falls. Once I got body slammed into one of the jumps after my horse spooked. The horse went one way and I went the other. One time, I was at a horse show and one of the competitors lost her life after falling and breaking her neck. It was so sad. She was just a kid like the rest of us.
I still love horses with all my heart and think they are some of the most gentle, sweet creatures you could meet. At the same time, people don’t fully grasp how dangerous riding an animal that large and powerful can be.
