  • I've finally finished the final season of Bojack and... That was just something else. Bojack is the only show that made me cry.
I reanimated a scene from my favourite episode because boy does it hold a special place in my mind now.
I didn't see many Bojack animatics so I don't expect it to get any views but I do hope that you'll enjoy this little scene recreated in my artstyle
I might reanimate Secretariats poem someday... who knows.

It really fucks up your mind and the way you think about everything, especially if you dont follow a religion. Ive been trying to turn to christianity, but there’s always “what if” thoughts. Like what if there isnt heaven? What if this is it...then you think about why is there a universe in the first place instead of nothingness. Its a rabbit hole i hope no ever ever falls to...

I'm a bit late to help, but if you're still having trouble, I recommend either going to therapy (there's no shame in it, and it really does help) or seeking out proof. Obviously, the afterlife stuff is finicky and there's no real way to prove it for everyone (there's always the 'what if they're lying' question), but if you have an experience of your own, then you can know for sure. Something like ghost hunting or meditation can help.
But something important to remember is to not overcomplicate things. Try to avoid overthinking things and making it too complicated, we simplify things because we need to to understand them, it's hard for people to understand super complex things

Gets me everytime it's such a sobering line, you come to terms with your own death and speaking to your friend or your imagined version of him leading you to the afterlife and when you tell him you'll see him in the afterlife in these last moments of life he shatters that idea by softly letting you down by informing you there is no other side all there was to life was the life we lived and now that you're dead the shows over, curtains drawn, this is it.

But thinking about it for a bit I kind of relaxed. I'm not the only one that death is coming for. It's coming for EVERYONE. We all have to cross that line one day and to this day it scares me on what might be waiting if ANYTHING at all. But, when I think about it, I'm not alone. So I just learned to let it go and appreciate what I have now because tomorrow might be the day I cross and not come back. Love your friends, and love your family.

I just don’t really get why people get an existential crisis from this scene. We were told earlier by herb himself that nothing that they were experiencing was real, it’s just bojack going through what he thinks he needs to go through. Why would that suddenly change now? I think that deep down, bojack hopes that there isn’t an afterlife. After all, if there is one, he might have to answer for all of the shitty things that he has done.

This right here. Feels like everyone who gets something out of this line in particular is just ignoring everything else that happened before it. In one sentence they'll say, "It's so sad that Butterscotch's/Secretariat's confession to Bojack was all in his head, like everything else here", and in the next they'll start a paragraph about "there is no other side" as if that, somehow, is absolute. Why the disconnect?

Here’s how I rationalize death so it’s less scary, hope someone finds it useful:
I’ve been unconscious before. When anesthetized, i simply wake up in a new place in what, subjectively, feels like the very next instant. “Nothing” doesn’t feel like anything. It’s nothing. You’re not even aware that you’re unconscious, because your awareness stops completely.
So in that case, an eternity of death would feel like …. Nothing. It’d be the same as being unconscious.
And who knows? Maybe the atoms that make up my body will one day order themselves into some organism or other and by some unknown means my subjective experience will just pick up there. We don’t really know what our subjective sense of self is, after all, beyond the idea that it’s rooted in the structures in our brain. Well, say some structure or other replicates itself with those same atoms later down the line. Who’s to say we don’t just pick up there?

I’m my opinion I think it’s a gamble,The after life is ether nothingness like you said or there is a place died people go like heaven and hell, there’s even a chance it a combination of both.Who knows,In my opinion I hope that when we die we go to a alternate universe that is almost like our old one but somethings are different. The reason why I think this is true is because that I have dreams were I see a future event then it happens but it’s a bit different then the one in my dreams.I know this is wishful thinking but I just don’t want to sleep dreamless forever when I die.But you did help a little bit at least you helped me calm down with what you said and if I were to die I’ll try to think like that.

This line of thinking is comforting but it's not really very accurate, death doesn't happen in a moment, we are what we are experiencing right now and that depends on the structure and activity in our brain. The last state our brain is in whilst we are conscious will probably not be one we would recognise as ourselves, so if what you are stating is true we may wake up but we'll wake up confused and with a bunch of fuzzy barely coherent thoughts that we have absolutely no way of getting back, personally I take a not grim but somewhat deppressing approach to this, the universe moved towards lower levels of complexity for everything else so this probably includes consiousness, our exact brain state can be simplified so upon death I imagine our thoughts will get more and more incoherent until we have absoultely no concept of anything, we'd dissolve in a sense. Who knows maybe once we are nothing once more our brain state can be mapped onto a child, not even neccesarily a human child.

Hey I thought of something else,do you guys heard about the theory that the universe is slowing destroying it self then when it’s full destroyed the Big Bang happens again. What if death is just being unconscious until we’re born again.like a infinite loop type of thing, and to make this less depressing we can also say we come out as different things when this happens.

I don't even have a crisis over this
Because that is what i want
    I want nothingness
Just to stop, not an afterlife, not hell or heaven
Just sweet release of cesing to exist

*The view from halfway down.......... This gave me great distress.... Especially this scene.... The way he deadpans and says there's no other side, as an atheist I already know there's a black empty abyss after we die... But hearing it and visually shown it from bojacks perspective really messed me up that day, I had a panik attack and began sobbing. 30 minutes I felt like I couldn't breath out all, it was hard for me to catch my breath. My heart hurt, and my head was swimming*
