About Pete And His Bus: Pete is a normal (ish) guy who has a big passion for old vehicles and particularly old buses. He is NOT a trained mechanic nor is he a professional restorer. He enjoys converting vehicles but he can not promise that what he is doing is going to work on your vehicle. Nor can he promise that you won’t harm yourself if you were you to attempt the things he does. He recommends that you are safe and responsible with machinery and equipment even if you’ve seen him messing about with it. A workshop and it’s content can be a dangerous place. If you are in doubt about your own vehicle, contact a professional for advice.
Great to see Dave's old buses in good hands. Thanks Pete for setting the record Straight. I wish Carl all the best for the future with RouteMaster4hire.
Nice one! Thanks for watching
Thanks for the shout Pete. Glad the Rivet gun is doing its job!
Thank you guys, such a great tool and the rivets are super quality too 👍👍👍👍👍
Should be on Broadcast TV Pete! Always Enjoyable.
Thanks
I remember riding on that bus when my dad was a conductor on the 14 Route
excellent!
Absolutely brilliant video
Thanks
I can't believe I missed the chance to see Ian driving Pete's bus in my home town of East Grinstead!
It was pretty noticeable…..
Great to see that Routemaster4Hire is in safe hands with Countrywide Coaches Ltd at Lane End … not far from my hometown of High Wycombe & that two of Dave’s Routemasters have moved down south from Wales .. wish Dave all the best with his retirement project of sailing across the Atlantic..
Thanks for watching!
pete you are a cracking bloke and the videos are great as usual and im a big fan of the old route master buses and you do a great job of refurbishing them cheers 😄
Thanks so much
Nice to see the RM,s are in good hands. well done everyone in restoring history.
Thanks for watching!
What a wonderful cornucopia of complete madness! Oh, and bus, tractor and Compo stuff too.
😂😂 you’re welcome
'Twist Drill.' - A tool used to spin rivet heads around in their holes until you die of old age.
The hammer & punch looks like it did a good job.
That’s the one.
Another awesome job Pete, you Rock 🤩👍
Thanks 👍
Brilliant vintage bus content once again, loved the video with Hubnut too!
Glad you enjoyed it! 👍
Always enjoy your videos. Can’t wait for the next one. Thanks Pete. Cheers CB
Nope, thank you!!
Thanx Pete, now I know how to get our tractor to start with a starter...🤗🤗
No worries! 😂👍
Nice to see RM1783 still going strong. I used to drive that on the OLTST from Wandsworth Garage back in the late 80’s
Brilliant, what a great connection you have there. Thanks for watching 👍
Yep, I'm another import from Hub Nut. And loving it. I remember RTs and RMs when they were still new and sounded "right" - had the original engines.
Very pleased to have found you, and may you and the buses flourish.
That’s lovely! Thanks for watching
Another great update. Nice to see your own project going forwards.
Thanks so much
I believe NZ wellington had alot of these buses in the 60 - 70, love these buses.
👍👍
Thank you. What a great video, from all perspectives, Pete!! Really love the updates. Happy about Route Master 4 hire news!
Glad you enjoyed it! 👍
Great Video, like the diversity of the content you are bringing into these recently, nice to see you and Ian on screen together, you both work off each other so well. Who needs Top Gear with quality output from you guys!
Thanks for watching
So glad to see Dave’s buses from routemaster for hire! I watched how channel as often as yours! Wish him all the best on his travels around the world. Wow another routemaster !! And it runs really well!! Keep up the good work Pete !
Thanks mate
Nice episode buddy. Just what I needed on a crappy Monday.
You’re welcome 👍👍
Great video as always, expensive piece of aluminium ordered 👍. And nice to see 214CLT, that was my wife’s wedding bus back in 2012!
Oh wow! What a great connection. Thanks for ordering. Very much appreciated
My dad has a fergie tractor. I now realise what a great big gangly chap you must be seeing you stood next to one!
6 foot 6... hahah!
Love these videos. I use a wire cup brush on a baby grinder to remove paint and rust. It doesn't leave scuff marks like a disc does on the steel which is an added bonus.
Thanks! Sound advice
Wow another great video
from Pete , l hope you will
never leave the tractor
outside , you can buy an
Exhaust pipe cap that
closes went engine is
not running, l love the
RF single deck bus but
l also like the Leyland too
Hope you will consider
branching out or expanding
like RM for hire , Questions
& Answers a lot to think about future projects in the
Year to come or years.keep
up the great work & keep throwing videos at us & we
will be happy 🤪🤪
Thanks for watching! Glad you're enjoying it
So fun to see the little red Motocompo next to the big red busses, such a fun contrast. Thanks for another great video!
You’re welcome, glad you enjoyed it!
Great to see another RM being saved. Great video as always Pete!
Thanks for watching
awesome episode as usual m8! awesome to see these icons being saved and repurposed with the respect they deserve.
glad you enjoyed it!
@@PeteAndHisBus feel free to pm me about any emblems/small castwork. might be able to help out refurbishing/copying.
Might have to watch out for low bridges with that fergie snorkel attachment 😂 another fun and enjoyable video - thank you
Haha indeed. At least I’ve gotten used to looking out for them with the buses… 👍
@@PeteAndHisBus And the little star jump surprise at the end of the video… brilliant! 😂😂😂
That's why I never throw anything away - but now you can buy parts of my bus chopped into small pieces but I might need them back -
He he he….
My Grandfather had an old Fordson Major which never had a starter or a battery. It was used for scraping duties and lived at the top of the farmyard, on a fairly steep slope. Only way to get it going was to bump start it.
I know that feeling
RML2730 Looking fantastic, can't wait to see it finished 😀
She’s getting there
@@PeteAndHisBus slowly but surely. Should get compo to help 😄
nice
Thanks
Thank you for saving these iconic buses Pete😇, I have fond memories of traveling on these buses in west London when I first started work. I also loved the fact that you were able to run and hop on the rear platform😃. The underwater extended tractor exhaust is fun, although unfortunately, I do not think this will catch on.
Haha think you’re right
Pete you take me back to my child hood as i rode on the buses in 1968 through to 1975 then once in 1982 thats when buses where buses keep up the good work
That’s sweet! Glad you’re enjoying it and thanks for your support 👍👍
I'm intrigued to know how much of RML2730 I already own! My father worked at Aldenham and a lot of old panels made their way out of the door, after visiting the stripping tanks. A fair amount was donated to my school's metalwork shop and a number of panels ended up in my projects.
I should mention that a lot of spare parts ended up in interesting places, for example a pair of the old green BCF fire extinguishers ended up being repurposed as the hull of a radio controlled submarine!
Haha brilliant!
Love old open cab tractors like this. Would look brilliant in green or red. Have a friend in France who kept his dad's 1966 Someca tractor in orange. I believe RM1214 was used in the TV mini-series 'The Great Train Robbery'. RF's are a favourite of mine, with a pre-select gear-box beautiful vehicle.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching
Nice new bus and a veru quick starter.
Yes indeed
Love the R F ,especially the green ones !
They are lovely
More fun from my fav bus channel, ok only one 🤭 welcome new bus to the fold hope compo likes the new family member 🙂
I thought you was gonna tow a bus with the tractor how silly am I lol
Catch ya next time 👍🙂
Thanks for watching!
Love it. History, heritage, salvation. Keep it up
thanks, glad you enjoyed it
Awesome. Many thanks
👍👍
I loved the bus recovery
Thanks for watching
A bumper edition - thank you for the great video.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
I've just subscribed. I'm a coach driver myself. I've never driven an RM.
I used to drive OKM 317, an AEC Regent mk3. It's great to see vintage vehicles still running, I collect and restore classic Japanese bikes, they take up less space than buses!
I learned on a Leyland PD3 in the 80's and the first coach I drove a lot was an AEC Reliance, so I have a soft spot for AEC.
Thanks for the subscription. Glad to have you on board. AECs and Japanese bikes... You'll feel right at home here.
Top stuff as always Pete, glad Ian’s channel threw a few over for you, been watching him for years and you since 2 or 3 videos in on the RML, great episode with bits of everything including our favourite little bike Compo 😊 thanks also for the update on R4H I wonder what happened to his other RM’s (I know one was Alan’s) but KVS602 has obviously gone too. Anyway cheers buddies 🙏
Thanks for watching
Loved the RF. Sydney had about 300 AEC Regal IVs wIth both 9.6 and 11.3 litre engines. Lots ended up scrapped in the late 1970s to keep others going and most of the 11.3s were exported for rail car use so I read somewhere.
So lovely aren’t they, thanks for watching
Another great vid Pete.
Can't wait for the next.👀👍
Thanks
Amazing as always..
Thanks
I wish I could drive one of these old beauties... I drive "modern" Envrio 200/300/400's and they are just not the same as the fizz one of these gives. Great vid mate :)
Thanks
Put the strips further back in the guillotine when cutting them. 👍🏻
Sounds advice
17:30 i guess that's one way on ensuring u don't get smoke in your face lol my god mate anyway awesome video as always
Thanks for watching 👍👍
Just built two 1/24 revell routemaster buses. One red one green. 👌
Nice! You happy with them?
@@PeteAndHisBus yes very nice models.👌
Yet another good one!!
Thanks!
Love your videos Pete ,keep up the good work 😁👍
Thanks, will try
Seriously, I know it sounds daft but when drilling aluminum grease the drill bits and they will last longer. I did an apprenticeship in commercial bodybuilding when I left school...
👍
Nice to see a red RF again not a green one unless an RFC. Can remember RF's from the early 50's before they had the doors and were crew operated. The conductor never had anywhere to stand when passengers got on and off. Everyone onboard froze in winter as before the doors were fitted (mid 50's) the cold whipped in the heaters (2) were next to useless. Wonder how many half deck RFA's are still around in BEA livery?
Thanks for watching
Another great video Pete 👍
Thanks
Great episode as always 😎👍🏻 Love that RF! Looks stunning!
It really is! Thanks for watching
I know shame that routemaster 4 hire packed up
Oh and a lot of the old paint probably contains lead so always use a mask when grinding paint.
👍
Ordered my piece of the bus to support your project. It should make a nice luggage tag. Thanks for the great videos!
Thanks so much! You’re support is very much appreciated 👍👍👍
Feeling cheated that we didn’t see Scuba-tractor in action 😉
Hahaha
Very nice ,sir
Thanks
£60 for a part made to order is pretty good!
I'm glad you think so! I think it's good
I really liked the driver's view from the Fergie. The one I droive had its original gasoline (petrol) engine, so it sounded different, but the view is the same.
That single-decker RF coach reminds me of a 1930s Ford "Crackerbox" transit bus, especially from the front.
Most, if not all, of the "bus nuts" I have met have not had to deal with restoring interiors because the most common kind of restoration in North America involves conversion to a motorhome. Seeing how involved interiors can be is quite the insight, and something that makes your videos different from others.
And then there's Compo.....
Thanks for watching
Another great episode of “Pete and his bus” but I did notice that when you pulled away in RML 2543 from the fuel pump you did it in 1st gear. When I learned to drive a Routemaster I was taught that 1st is a hill start gear and on a level surface should pull away in 2nd or4th (automatic mode ).
You're right! I sometimes I forget. I thought you were going to mention the fact I drove off in the same shot with the stop flag still down... I had an aswer for that one... Thanks for watching
Ciao Pete bravissimo come sempre
Thanks for watching!
Another great video Pete ..the RF is lovely .. but like the RML looks much better in green!
If you do end up with one .. get one of the Green Line refurbished ones with the twin headlights & interior fluorescent strip lighting..these were re-built in mid sixties & with wider bands outside .. if painted in the LTE Greenline Livery or early London Country one .. look magnificent.. also they ran right through London on many of the routes that cris crossed from places like High Wycombe to Reigate (711).
I'm just going to count how many times you use thw word "green". That's 3!
@@PeteAndHisBus and I can see you were “Green” with envy at his lovely RF! (Red ones are available too!)
Hay Pete (In an excitable voice),,, what do you call a man that used to like tractors....,,, ahhhhh bugger,,, all ready tried that one!
Oh dear…. 😂😂
I want RF518! Surprising how many skilled people there are making bespoke parts that wouldn't be available any other way. The skills and the old machines and tools to do that job.
I want it too…. 😂👍
@@PeteAndHisBus Plenty of other RF/s 4RF4s / GSs in need of love and attention.
Pete ,one of your RM,s has a Cummins 'B' ,or 'C,' Series any chance of that being changed for a PROPER AEC Engine an 11,3Litre AV691 as they are easier to find than an AV590 the RM,s original mode of propulsion. Regarding the Gorgeous RF Regal Mk 4, the er' switch' in place of a clutch pedal, you use to change gear ,the lever under the steering wheel ,like an Austin A40 pre-selects each of the four gears. I know you are all things London Transport, but I am all things Bristol Omnibus, and in the Tilling Group we do things differently to make our drivers suffer. To me the AEC RF Regal Mk 4 is like a plush Daimler Limousine ,basically an overpowered Spaceship. While LT drivers swoon around the capital in their RM,s and RF,s, Bristol drivers wrestle with K,s, L,s LS,s LD,s and MW,s yes the city famous for Wallace and Grommit and a pedalo parked in the docks. Beyond that fair city, is the' badlands' yes the Cotswolds. Within said Cotswolds is Stroud basically a mental asylum stuck on the side of a hill with steep narrow twisty roads barely able to cope with a Mini.
Thanks for watching! 👍
@@PeteAndHisBus You are most welcome, and do you want to know what a Spaceship is?.
Great to see another one under cover
I suppose 60kph is flat out pete
I was thinking what would it be like to make a camper out of it but it would be too slow and fuel economy would be an issue
👍👍🇦🇺
Yes I have stickers to stick 😂😂
Yep, and it wouldn’t fit in any campsites…. 😂😂👍
Most enjoyable relaxing video, too bad I couldn’t be with you to work one of projects, that last RML on route 14 had the underscored LT names on sides much too too high, shall wait for an update on events, and too bad there were no RM’s in my part of town 👍
Yes, the sticker is way to high, well spotted.
@@PeteAndHisBus I’ll see you on my local bus route very soon with that RML 😊.
It’s absolutely brilliant to this beautiful piece of history coming back in a new form, what are your plans for ulez? Is it exempt because of its age? And sir, that is a tractor that puts Jeremy Clarkson’s Lamborghini to SHAME!
Yes, they're all ULEZ exempt. Clarkson? Who's that? ;)
@@PeteAndHisBus i follow you on your facebook and honestly can’t get enough, it’s brilliant to see content like yours, honestly spent ages looking for something like this, i found your RUclips on episode 8 and I’ve been hooked since 😂
I just found your channel and it brought back a lot of memories for me of riding buses to and from high school . Now I see that you do almost old London Transport buses , do you happen to know if anyone has a restoration site for old Buses of the stoke on trent PMT buses ???
No idea I’m afraid, you’ll have to have a search for that yourself. Thanks for watching! 👍👍
It's a pre-select box, fantastic idea, select the gear, the press the pedal, Works both ways up and down the box, sadly the concept didn't really work in a normal car.
That's right! It lacks feel. On a big bus it's ideal
Nice one 🙂
Thanks 🙏
Lovely to see Ian driving around the East Grinstead one-way system. Your patience and attention to detail are amazing, Pete. If you weren’t such a likeable bloke you’d be really irritating! 😂😂😂
Thanks? 😂😂😜😜
Why put a starter switch? You start these tractors using the gear shift in S. It’s a safety thing.
It’s had a starter motor upgrade
❤
❤️
The stop arm was down when you left the garage forecourt ?
That’s correct! It has an intermittent fault. The lights on it are spot on though and they were both off. Well spotted! 👍
Great video again, Pete. Loved the bus you drove back to the barn. No chance of you taking it on?
Probably not. It's fate is undecided at the moment. Might be for sale soon.
Pete we need to get you up to 100k in subscribers! You so deserve it. Let me try and plug your vids on some ex pat fb sites
Thanks mate! All the help is appreciated
As an ex-RML driver and mechanic on vintage commercial vehicles I was disturbed to see the STOP flag clearly visible after refueling, indicating a serious loss of air brake pressure. Then aghast to see at 33.50 you happily drive off before building up enough pressure to make the STOP flag retract. I would be interested to hear what excuse you think you have for ignoring basic safety procedures as it does not reflect well on responsible owners who respect the concessions granted to vintage vehicles.
It’s got a fault. I should’ve mentioned it because i knew I would get this chat. The lights on it do work and she was all good to go.
Pete, so when are you going to 'do' an RT? ;-)
When I lose all my sanity…. 😜😂
Once I cash my giro, I'll buy a brand new Range Rover. Call you in 7 years! ;)
ha! Speak to you then
Pete, I think you've just lost any potential backing from Range Rover... Tom (in France)
Haha that’s true!
🤗👍👌💯❤️
👍👍👍
🎉🎉🎉
👍👍👍
😀
👍
Pete, it is SITTING IN not SAT!!
🤦♂️
Anyone know what happened to Tim and Alan from Routemaster 4 hire and their buses.
I suspect they’re both still working on buses, just in a different location 😜😂 thanks for watching 👍
Pete, this buses has a semi-automatic gear box?
Yep, a pre select 👍👍
😄
I am intreasted in supporting project Scuba fergie will £1000000000 be enough 17:32
Hahahah for one prototype yes I think that should just about cover it. Thanks 😂
£100 of fuel .. thats only 2.5 gallons these days ..lol
😂😂😂
I'd rather buy a drive of a bus (I do have a HGV 1 licence by the way...)
😂
Stop stop stop. You can't be serious. You need to connect that pipe onto the intake not the exhaust if you are going snorkeling. Unless you stall in the water but a flap would probably do there.
Anyway, you need to paint it with fence life or varnish. Cardboard isn't exactly famous for its hydrophobic properties.
😂😂
PS I am in the USA these days
👍
