  • A #podcast about how the Supreme Court got so supreme.
To many Americans, Justice Clarence Thomas makes no sense. For more than 30 years on the Court, he seems to have been on a mission - to take away rights that benefit Black people. As a young man, though, Thomas listened to records of Malcolm X speeches on a loop and strongly identified with the tenets of Black nationalism. In this episode of More Perfect, we dig into his writings and lectures, talk to scholars and confidants, and explore his past, all in an attempt to answer: what does Clarence Thomas think Clarence Thomas is doing?
    Voices in the episode include:
    • Juan Williams - Senior Political Analyst at Fox News
    • Corey Robin - Professor of Political Science at Brooklyn College and the CUNY Graduate Center
    • Angela Onwuachi-Willig - Dean of Boston University School of Law
    • Stephen F. Smith - Professor of Law at Notre Dame Law School

    ABOUT MORE PERFECT
The Supreme Court was designed to be above the fray of politics. But at a time when politics seems to seep into every pore of American life, are the nine justices living up to that promise? More Perfect is a guide to the current moment on the Court. We bring the highest court of the land down to earth, telling the human dramas at the Court that shape so many aspects of American life - from our religious freedom to our artistic expression, from our reproductive choices to our voice in democracy.
The fourth season, hosted by Julia Longoria (a former More Perfect producer) will revisit the human dramas at the Court that are driving change around core aspects of American life today - from our religious freedom to our artistic expression; from our reproductive choices to our voice in democracy.
Supreme Court archival audio comes from Oyez®, a free law project by Justia and the Legal Information Institute of Cornell Law School.
Support for More Perfect is provided in part by The Smart Family Fund.

I have been so on board with More Perfect from the very start. Then this popped up in my feed. I thought, "OK, I'm willing to listen." But then the apologies and justifications started. Then, the Anita Hill situation is glossed over with a "Oh, everyone knows, we don't need to go into that." NO, absolutely not. If you want to give me a different perspective of this man and his fitness for service, you can't just gloss over and dismiss that. It is very likely that there is a sexual predator sitting on the US Supreme Court bench, you want me to consider a new view of him, you don't just skip over that. And where are the sources to give me a balanced view? Trust me, Juan Williams carries no credibility. Neither does professors from schools that churn out lawyers determined to align US law with Vatican dictates.
I don't have to agree with what I'm hearing to learn or enjoy a podcast. I am, however, very aware when I'm being blatantly manipulated as a listener.
More Perfect's credibility was trashed with this episode. Months after I shut it down at 39:24, the offensive approach of this episode is still taking up space in my mind. I'm in mourning because I've lost a trusted friend. I do not trust More Perfect without Jad Abumrad.

Completely agree. Major fall from the previous standard set in seasons 1 and 2. No mention of the inconsistencies in his rulings. Hardly any mention of corruption. Just a complex and misunderstood guy. Unbelievable.

This podcast has really fallen from what it was. If anyone is listening to this with the first seasons in mind, just skip it. It's comical this episode exists after the blatant corruption in which Thomas has engaged. This episode is basically a retreading of his autobiography. Every bit of this episode rings hollow with outright misrepresentations of a corrupt, money chasing cheater that has destroyed any respect SCOTUS had. Thomas has played a major part in ruining this country, but this podcast would have you believe he's just done misunderstood guy that's intellect and ideals are simply above anyone's understanding.

The story of an individual who was and is, in its essence, a crook. A person like so many, that lives to be a legal criminal. An unethical slayer of wisdom and honesty. A damaged soul that will not rest, almost like a comic book villain, until he has hurt as many people as he can. Spreading misery is his mission.

Far worse. He thinks he is saving the world while hurting people. Truly damaged.
