4:10, Brodie I'm not sure if I agree with this from a mentality aspect. Maybe if you know you're totally uncovered but even with that initial separation look how much ground your man made up. Sure you'll gain 3-5 extra yards but sometimes that play style is gonna get you blow up
awesome, detailed commentary, great closeup work on the first play, good use of freeze frame and slomo. Nice themed grouping of these two plays about communication among two players on offense, Yeah, a circle on screen would be nice, it took a bit for me to figure out which one was you.
One thing I would caution a lot of young players about is that you likely will not be getting the type of cushions that Brodie gets. I would say it's more important to go hard to the disc as you will likely not be open by 20 yards. I can't begin to count how many run through D's I've seen because players are jogging back to the disc, or stop to catch it
@KrukanaBanana the scared simply means that they realize that Brodie can throw that really well, and don't want to give him the chance. The commentators were specifically calling out Brodie for being lazy, whereas them being 'scared' of this throw is necessary and good for the other team if they want to play good defense. Very very different.
Hey Brodie, I understand in principle why you dont need to make a hard in cut when you have a lot of separation but doesn't that give your defender an easier time getting a layout d?
this is something I noted, when you were talking about how the guy was "scared" of you going deep. I find this similar to the commentators saying you are lazy, maybe choose a different word.
That's why I always play with my brother even though he plays college level (I'm in high school); we play better than a lot of the people on his team do.
Probably just me cos im slow but it would be awesome if you could get some video editing software, maybe a tablet so you can circle and highlight on screen what it is you are talking about :)
In the second play, You say why you don't need to cut in fast, but you don't say why slow is better.... is it because you wanted to give the thrower as much time as possible to get off the throw? And maybe you were not worried about the run through D because you knew your defender was still recovering from bidding long? I'll bet you sort of had your defender tracked even though you kept eye contact with the thrower. It's cool to slow down and analyze this stuff.
I have a problem with your last tip. You are relying on that huge amount of separation to get you the disc. There comes a point where your defender closes the gap and you are no longer open but you do not know that. This teaches a tricky and dangerous habit of not running through the disc. Sure you gain more yards this way but it sets you up to get d ed. I will agree with the tip of calling the handler's name and getting their attention so they throw it to you.

never thought about ultimate in this way. its depth really brought out a greater appreciation for the sport.
so helpful, hopefully plenty more of this for college ultimate this year!

Great video, the best videos of yours are the ones that really help my game. Awesome vid!
Helpful vid I like the set up of gameplay with commentary

Sick as always, thanks for this.

I wish i could play with brodie smith
i played chains #62 in europeans, he killed us.
so brodie took revenge for us. thanks a lot.
Brodie, would you usually call foul instead of just calling contact for situations like 1:00? for what reason?
this is something I noted, when you were talking about how the guy was "scared" of you going deep. I find this similar to the commentators saying you are lazy, maybe choose a different word.
Just a small edit... at the beginning it says "New video ever Wed. Thurs..." instead of every.
Two man Ultimate. Still very effective.
If you don't sprint to the disc there could be a chance of the defender running up and d ong the disc
Every time you stop it I keep thinking the video is buffering lol

it's almost as if the other players on the team don't matter!
sick cut and fake, that was nasty stuff!!
is it just me or did brodie push the defender away to get to the disc?
Syed Zahin no, it's not you, Brodie plays very physical but calls foul when another person is physical with him. Bad spirit
but this is dope
isnt it a foul at 4:10 when brodie ran into the defender right there?
looks like it..
pretty legit
Really it's just about breaking your mark...

Shouldn't you be looking at other players besides Kurt to get open also?
