    I think it's solely due to him having not wone the Champions League that is it, making Atletico a force in Spain and international club football, consistently winning despite losing key player and a lack of investment speaks volume to the work he has done thus far, us fans know how special he is. Winning everything he has won while having a balanced net spend (I believe the last time I checked for a 10 year period was two years ago) is truly astonishing. For every player he has bought, he has basically sold someone of similar value. This is obviously down to the board as well, but he has not had the financial freedom many others are granted, yet he is expected to cater to the demands of people who wouldn't care if his family starved should he be sacked.

    This may be controversial but I think he’s a better manager than Wenger. Adaptability matters as a manager and he’s won leagues in 2014, 2021 and is now favourite in 2025 competing against historically the two most dominant teams in European football, doing it his way while not getting stuck in his ways like Wenger did after the early 2000s. Also two Europa leagues, two european super cups and two CL finals too which is way better than Wenger who failed miserably on the european front.

      @diegoguerra8773 19 дней назад +1

      No, that is a very widespread fallacy among those against Atlético, but it is still a fallacy no matter how often it is repeated. In terms of investment, Atlético is far below the spending of teams like Barcelona or Real Madrid, basically because its budget is 1/3 less (Atletico has an annual budget of 320-350 million compared to the 850-900 of Real Madrid or Barcelona.
      If you check and go to Transfermarket, for example, and review the team's transfer balance (that is, the sum of the spending on transfers together with what is obtained from sales) you can see how Atlético has barely spent a couple of tens of millions since Cholo arrived at Atlético in 2013, compared to the hundreds of millions that Barcelona or Madrid have invested (data that, in addition, appears biased since the sales of assets of Barcelona or expenses derived from free signings such as Mbappé for Madrid, for example, do not count in that balance despite the fact that they commit large sums of money to their respective clubs). The difference between the spending of Barcelona or Real Madrid compared to the Atlético was, if possible, even bigger until a few months ago and signings like Julian Álvarez or Le Normand among others, which came to put an end to a few years of economic austerity where the biggest signing of the team was Samuel Lino for just 7 million euros.
      The reason why there is this fallacy about Atlético's spending on signings being comparable to that of Barcelona or Real Madrid has to do with the fact that Atlético has made large spending on signings to replace its sales. An example that is often used is that of Joao Félix, who costs Atlético Madrid 127 million. It is, without a doubt, a very high figure, but what is always forgotten is that that year Atlético sold Griezmann to Barcelona for 135 million (originally it was 120 but after legal problems with the signing Barça was forced to compensate Atlético with 15 more), Rodrigo to M. City for 70 million or Lucas Hernandez to Bayern for 70 million among others. That is to say, in that market, although it seems that the team made a great economic investment, it turns out that it has been the opposite, and that the club has in fact earned more than 100 million (it was more, but part was spent to sign replacements of much lower level, such as Mario Hermoso to replace Lucas Hernandez). Money that, as always, ended up in the hands of the owners of the club, instead of being reinvested in the same or in higher quality signings.
      This dynamic of selling high and replacing with cheap players and keeping the club's owners with most of the benefits has been, until now, typical of the club. It has happened with the aforementioned Griezmann, Rodri or Lucas Hernandez and with many others like Falcao, who is sold and a very old Villa is brought in as a substitute, like Diego Costa, who is replaced by a very young Griezmann who nobody expected to play the way he did and, later, by a regular Álvaro Morata, with Felipe Luis, and also with many other lower level players who are not worth mentioning.
      the reality is that, beyond the titles or competitive level that Atlético now has, the greatness of Cholo, for me, has always resided in the fact that he has known how to overcome this every year. Every year they took away his star player and his backbone, and he was always able to overcome it and create a team that was just as or even more competitive with the patches and fixes that the board signed for him.
      About his salary, I would like to say two things. First, seeing the results and the tools that the club provides him with, and taking into account the level that the club was at before he arrived (it should be remembered that, until his arrival, the club was fighting for a place in the Europa League, that is, 5-7 position in the league and was far far away from Real Madrid, Barcelona, or any other team in the European elite. If one year he finished 4th and reached the Champions League, it was a huge success), the salary he received seemed more than justified to me. If there has been any coach in the recent past (without going back to the 60s and 70s) who has achieved something similar to what Cholo has achieved, taking a mediocre team and elevating it to the elite year after year, I sincerely do not know.
      Secondly, this topic that his salary is the highest among coaches is also another widespread fallacy, but a fallacy nonetheless. Simeone was the highest paid, but only for a few years, after 2016, when his contract was renewed after leading the club to its second Champions League final (remember that just 4 years ago the club was fighting to get into the top 7 of the league). But by 2021 his salary was drastically reduced, and there are currently other managers who earn more than him.

    • @diegoguerra8773
      @diegoguerra8773 15 дней назад

      @@lordbill5111 Obviously, the latest signings such as Julian Alvarez or Gallagher, among others, have helped to equlibrate the balance more. Even so, it is as I mentioned in my previous comment, in the case of Real Madrid there are signings such as Mbappé, Rudiger or Alaba that count as free or free on Transfermarkt despite having meant large sums of money. In the case of Kylian, the sources speak of a signing bonus of around 100 million euros in the most affordable cases and up to 130 in the most exaggerated ones. Not counting, either, the considerable variables that, according to media such as Marca, some signings such as Tchouamení or Endrick have.
      However, and despite being an Atlético fan, I do not want to take away merit from Madrid's transfer market. They have signed very well these years, spending less money than they normally use. You just have to compare it, for example, with Barcelona, which, the last time I looked, was at around -600 million in the expenditure/income balance.
      However, I cannot help but debate with those who give an economic image of Atlético that, for me, is far from reality. I would like, as an Atlético fan, that we could compete closely with teams like Real Madrid, Barça or others like M.City or PSG. But the reality is that we have 1/3 of their budget. In certain markets like this summer we can make considerable expenditure, but it is something that we can only do once every few years. In addition, unfortunately for us, Atlético does not have the ability to attract like other teams do. Picking up the thread of the Mbappé case, I don't think that, even if it had been for free, the team would have had the chance to sign him, or Haland when he left Dortmund for City for, as far as I understand, only 60 million. Atletico is not in the same level as this teams.
      On the other hand, I'm not going to avoid the fact that Atlético does have a high spending capacity, on par with other teams in that second European tier below Real Madrid, Barça, City, or Liverpool, among others. For me, Atlético has to squeeze its financial capacity as best as possible, investing wisely and being able to generate teams that can compete with these teams in the European elite, rather than getting into the fights to sign the biggest stars of the moment, since it will most likely lose. Although this is much easier said than done.
