    I was so invested in the beauty world that I bought soooo much without even realising it. Now I have this hudge collection of old makeup. When I think about all the money I kinda lost in a way it makes me sad...so I love content like this, seeing older makeup, be mindfull of what you buy, lots of numbers, low buys and using up makeup. It's what we all need

    • @mmmkk987
      @mmmkk987 Год назад +4

      I feel like a lot of people are in the same place.. if you're not careful, the beauty space on RUclips can cause to make impulse purchases without thinking it through which is why I love content like this

      I'm so with you and identify with your experience wholeheartedly. When all you see are creators reviewing new makeup (whether they purchased it or got it in PR), it can really normalise always shopping to have something new in your collection at all times, which is completely unrealistic and excessive

    There is a satisfaction of seeing people use up what they have to be honest. I do not watch all the review videos unless there is a product something I have on my mind and then I binge watch videos about that product to see how it is. I want to watch a channel that helps me see different ways to use up what I have and keep me motivated to not fall in to the trap of consumerism. Thank you for creating videos like this!

    • @EarthlyBeauty
      @EarthlyBeauty Год назад +3

      Yes, I totally agree with you. It is so satisfying when influencers completely use up what they purchase because that is what I like to do with my products. And you don't see it often now because influencers are just buying buying buying, reviewing once and never using again, it is so wasteful and frustrating.

    It’s good to see your confidence in your mindful shopping evolve over the years…I remember you saying in an older video that you used to feel you needed to fill the gaps in colours in your lipstick collection but then realised there was a reason why you would buy new colours then not wear them much…you felt they did not suit you. It will be interesting to see how you approach what colours you pick going forward.

    Personally I did a cleanup of my subscriptions on RUclips channels and categories. In the beauty category I unsubscribed to ones that had overly large collections and or pushed toward more buying and over consumption. To help myself in my decisions. I kept ones that inspired me to have a curated collection, mindful spending and or inspired me in a positive way. I can count those on 1 hand. I kinda looked at every category of channels this way. A personal decision to help me mentally and track what I'm my mind is consuming.

    • @amandasjoberg463
      @amandasjoberg463 Год назад +1

      I need to clean up my subscriptions too but I have like hundrads (I don't dare to check)! For that reason my subscriptions no longer align with what I like watching and so I never click on the subscriptions tab, and only look at the homepage recommendations lol (edit : the people I watch regularly show up there anyways!)

    Your channel along with Rebecca Morgan and Swarna Ripari are the only beauty channels I enjoy watching regularly because of your focus on responsible makeup enjoyment. I like how you all geek out on counting makeup products, how much you spend, panning items and teaching us ways to be creative in using makeup. All these are more fun to watch, for those of us who are tired of buying, spending, then dumping, wasting things.
    Just like another commenter, I only search and watch reviews when I'm buying something new (very rarely) and need to know what ppl's thoughts are, otherwise the constant new makeup is just overwhelming to watch.
    My own experience have taught me that I never ever pan/finish lipsticks, blushes and eyeshadow pallettes so I've not owned any blushes now, using my lip products as blushes so I can also finish my lipstick (yes, only one) for the first time in my life 😅. This year I have panning goals and no buying except to replace.
    Do keep being you.

    I don't know if this has already been mentionned in that GRWM about low consumption but I kinda wanted to share an idea/opinion.
    I think another important part about this "consumerism" (to me) is that i feel like this low buy targets mostly the purchase of new items (and PR would fall into the same type of consumerism) and not second hand make up.
    I would really love to see a video about no-buy groups, how do they work, how it can be a way to potentially explore new makeup without supporting the brands directly (might not be possible for an "influencer" since the brand is still blasted on the packaging but still) or creating new demand and still having the benefit of lesser cost.
    Is there a "safe" way to purchase second hand makeup ? Is it always a bit of a gamble because you never really know (maybe it's a bit of a touchy subject to make recommendations, i really don't know) ?
    Maybe something to explore if you find it interesting !

    First of all, this eyeshadow on you: Amazing. hahaha. Could the blue of your eyes pop more? I think not. lol. Second of all: Love this way of thinking about how you want to intake product this year. I look forward to hearing how you think about what you're bringing in, whether this ends up feeling limiting or freeing, etc. And thirdly: Reviews really aren't why I come to your channel (though I do love your opinions). Actually, that parenthetical IS one of the reasons I love coming to your channel, and it's actually watching your feelings and opinions evolve and change the more you use products you already own. I mean, I think that's the relatable journey most of us go through. I love seeing you rediscover things, or change what feels like "you", or get into a groove with certain products. Also, the amount of times that I've felt better about my own rollercoaster relationship with something because you've said, "I used to think I LOVED this, but NOW?" haha. Too many to count. So yes, love this thinking and this direction! :D

    One of the most helpful things I've had done that has helped me buy and want way less makeup was a color analysis. I started with my clothes and then incorporated it to my makeup. It took away the desire to want it all, because I could see that if it wasn't cool toned it was not for me. It also has helped me downsize my collection and eliminate what doesn't suit me best.

    I think this sounds like a fun project! I'm not 100% sure what my yearly project is going to be, but I decided to do a no-buy for the first two months of the year (with some exceptions I decided on before), and then I'll go from there. I'm thinking of doing like no-buys with one allowed "shopping day" a month. That way if I really want something I can still get it, but I have to wait until that day to make a purchase that way I know I truly want the thing. I did that pretty successfully for a couple months last year.

    I love the brown top with your makeup look its stunning! And I am on a low buy as well. I don't have a number limit so much as I have a rule of 1 in 1 out to keep myself accountable. I am also on a fragrance and foundation no buy till I use two of each up to stop myself from being impulsive. I have brought in one concealer so far that's it. And I relate so much to your blush number - I am panning a blush and have found that I need to finish one so I can see the number drop but also the satisfaction is so good for finishing things.

    Good for you! I hope you have success with this mindful spending plan. I have quite a few blushes. I use them everyday on my cheeks, my nose and my hairline. The main reason is because my summer shades are different than my winter shades so I really only use them half a year and I like to have a pink, purple, Dusty Rose, terracotta, and Peach shades for each season plus I keep one in my purse. So that means I have at least 11 and those are just the powders not counting creams. I guess I don't need to buy any blush for a long time LOL

    I have been watching a lot of Emily Noels old videos from like 10 years ago and she did a lot of tips and tricks videos for different parts of your makeup routine like applying mascara and lipliner tips etc... I would love to see more of this on your channel. I know you already do your 'how to use products in different ways' videos which I loved! And I want more! Even if you haven't tried the tips before, trying them with us and learning together is always fun like in your 'trying different techniques' videos :) Maybe color theory or how to coordinate your eyeshadow to your blush and lip color would be fun too because not everyone has an eye for that right off the bat and might need help.

    I don't have a lot of makeup (below 30 products), but I am going on a replacement only no buy, because even though I wear makeup everyday I am very lighthanded on my makeup and only use up below 5 products in a year, so increasing the number of products that I have would only mean that more of my makeup would go bad

    I loved hearing your mindset about consuming, and you're absolutely right. I have other channels that I go to for reviews, especially for comparisons, because those are people that are trying so many things that come out and explaining nuanced differences between products (I'm thinking of Kackie especially). But I can't always watch those videos, because it can be overwhelming and sometimes even stressful, so your channel is one that I go to for easy watching. I still take note of your opinion on products and have often bought (or avoided) products because of your recommendation, but that's not the main reason I'm here. It's a place where I can go to listen to someone talk about makeup and enjoy makeup without feeling like I need to buy anything new.

    Also, the key for my successful low-buy is to not think about makeup that much! I know this is not an option for you as this is your job, but it works for me as a "normal" consumer. (I now realize that I actually bought NO makeup last year! Unintentionally! Has never happened before 😯 wait no, 1 lip gloss! )I tend to stick to a product that works for me, use it up (which takes like 3 years for a foundation 😆, then maybe try something new after much research, or buy the same if I still love it, not just like it. Btw know any ggood concealers? I'm looking!)
