btw, the Asheville Guitar show looks like its scheduled for 3/08 next year.. Joe Bonamossa is also playing the night before (3/07) at the Cherokee Casino.. you guys should hit up both that weekend, I will!
The problem with any retail environment is that it lives and dies on having stock people want to buy at a price they want to buy it at. There is lots of guitars around from 1970 to current day, but people know how desirable the vintage stuff is and good pieces don’t come up as often, and there’s less each year. I would imagine at some point if the big US manufacturers move 99% abroad, then the more modern US stuff will become the new vintage.
The problem is a lot of the shows are really for the public anymore. Most of the good stuff just changes hands between dealers the day or two before the “show” when it’s not open to the public. Or a lot of dealers now just have booths to “buy” with nothing out but a table to suck in inventory
There is a variety out there, from the Minor Shows to NAMM, although a lot less Duds at NAMM then at your Local Flea Markets Monthly Guitar Show. Most of the Vintage out there are cared for, but think of recent Storms and Floods and realize some instruments that were cherished their entire lives are now damaged and in need of repair, I am the Jerk that plays every Guitar on a wall to Find the One That Plays and Feels the Best, and although Color is a Choice that matters, it seldom Matters more then the Tone, Sound and Feel of a Really Magical Instrument. Truthfully most people go to a Show only Looking for ONE Guitar, all it takes is One Guitar to make your trip worthwhile, Look hard enough and You will be surprised at what you will find. Good Luck
Went to Trade Show in Las Vegas. First guitar show ever. Laid eyes on a $37,000 Vintage 1967 Strat. I love Fender, I love Strats. BUT.......... Man this guitar was honestly a piece of poop. It was horrible. Looked cool checking etc... Sorta. It looked honestly considerably worse then a Squire Classic. IMHO. Was surprised by that. I expected I don't know... The thing to Glow like suit case in Pulp fiction. Nah it just looked like for lack of a better way to describe it... A So So... Mid/Low Tier Strat. Like the kind you'd get from Ebay for under $300
Guitar shows are hit and miss, but always entertaining. I saw this hand made stack that was at 7 feet tall and it had hand carved cabinet. It was beautiful but not practical or worth the 4k price. Regardless, guitar shows are always a good way to spend a day.
Johnnasean! I am an odd guitar player. People say vintage and that is my cue to check out. I love guitars but people and old cars/guitars are insufferable. I am refretting my 84 explorer project today and I just got a korean 1983 star logo squire bullet 1. Its also a full redo. I just re-radius'd the neck (12 1/2") and fixed a few gouges in the body (In all seriousness I think the guitar was run over by a car). It is cool because It is not a plyboard guitar it is 1 piece alder and the fretboard has a beautiful grain. throwing some mother of pearl inlays in just for shiggly wiggly's ohh and def going brass Yngwie nut keeping the original fender logo tuners and 2 screw bridge/trem. I primed it black and it started life as black but I think I may do candy apple red. Unless you kind connoisseurs bless me with a color scheme.....black/candy apple red racing stripes?
The worst is the instruments that are not setup or barely playable for sale & that you would be interested in if you could actually play it …. But dont worry the truss rod is fully functional sellers.. Well then set it up so I can see if the neck has a hump or any issues above the 12th fret. This is far to common
I love guitars and have enjoyed guitar shows, but walking into a room full of wildly overpriced Strats and Les Pauls (and all the other usual suspects) is boring. I always have my eyes open for the unusual stuff, the off-brands, the accessories... that's the stuff that follows me home.
I went to my first couple shows this year, Nashville and Dallas. I was kind of disappointed, it heavily skewed big 4 vintage and overpriced. I was expecting to see maybe some cool 80s Ibanez, or some newer Gretsch, or really just anything not common. Yeah, the occasional 90s Strat or an Epiphone, but who gets excited for that?
Strategy trick here, if you are a serious collector, spend the money to get a dealer table so you can do the pre-show wheeling and dealing. Then sit at your table the next day with a “Sold Out” sign and your ham sandwich.
im all about the player grade stuff for me if the wiring and pups haven't been adulterated to badly im good with it, everything else as long as it isn't beyond reasonable expectations im all in .. that being said my latest finds 71 LP custom fretless wonder needed new hardware and nobs easy fix $2600 after finding original parts im all in for maybe $3000 ,, 81 LP standard needed new frets wiring was a bit of a mess but easy breezy fix $1800 now all in for about $2200 .. but yes the word VINTAGE is just being thrown around way to liberally now ,, side note ; you wouldn't believe what i picked up my 62 tortoiseshell guard strat for last yr the only thing missing was the hardware literally gone lol ,, pups and wiring most important the pick guard were still perfect ( those are impossible to find anymore ) those great deals are still to be found my friends let the safari continue ✌
what kills me is people asking big money for a old junk gear..stuff in 1980 stores couldnt sell to save there lives is now vintage if it 50 years old dosent mean its cool over even good....old synths old amps needs new tubes/pots/caps/ transformers now its a new amp not a vintage amp...a 1959 lespaul or dumble amp isnt going to be the magic sauce that makes you play better..learn to play your instrument then buy new stuff thats not going to let you down in a gig
Is there a date for the Asheville show? I want to go if I’m not in Costa Rica. See if y’all can help me find my black face Princeton reverb. Unless Baxter wants to sell me one he’s been hoarding……. I know he’s got at least one…..
The same dealers with the same guitars, show after show and year after year. I think those "dealers" aren't in it at all to sell their guitars. They just want to see people ogle over their collection. The prices are very high-end. Not always crazy high, but certainly at the tip of the spear for the actual stuff people play. I wonder if they are just catering to collectors and not players at all.

I like going to shows by myself so I can talk as long or as short at each booth as I want. I agree about more amps
Yes, both! But I'm old so, if its not 50's 60's; its not vintage to me😂

What’s funny is as I was typing that Baxter said basically the same thing lol

I’ve never gotten to go to a guitar show but I’m definitely hitting Orlando and maybe Ashevegas in ‘25.

I stopped going to them when I realized that I have better stuff in my collection at home than the dealers did at the show.
3:30 strap Larry to the roof like Grandma Griswold!
Sean where is that jacket from?

8:38 you have to find Johnny Beane at NAMM that is your Where's Waldo quest.

Shows should be a place for deals, not dealer prices where I could find 100 70s less Paul’s cheaper than a renecked 74 at 5500!
0:45 Fret Rash! (I'm just gonna show up one day and start my own show called Fret Rash...)
I attend the one outside Philly, crusty is a good way to describe

I always go for the last 2 hours of the last day, thats when you find the real deals.
I just want them to talk about that graphic series ESP in the right corner 😂 so out of place in that shop

I've only ever been to one vintage guitar show. It was all vintage junk.
In the south it’s a swap meet or flea market.
In California we have swap meets and flea markets and guitar shows.
Noice!!!!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘
Mostly Gibson and Fender, wish they had more offbeat good brands
It’s on a picnic table, ha
I hate to break it to you but there's a typo in your title card.
Keep on pickin' Cowkidz
Anything that 60 years old is vintage
I heard they have guitar flee markets. What's next guitars at garage sales. Not enough players out there.
3:07 Flip, Flipflop, Flipflopanonymous?
David S. Pumpkins 😂
What are 'jewles'? Is that anti-semitic?
😂😂😂
when 90s guitars are advertised as vintage I feel older then Egyptian dirt. wtf is that about lol

U nead spel chek😂
Overpriced nice guitars amongst a sea of junk. That is a guitar show in 2024. Same as it ever was.
Be good to yourself, and buy Indonesian. You’ll thank yourself.
Not how you spell jewels
