    All the architecture there is of Khmer people including the sound and music. This was the capital of the Khmer people in the chenla period. I'm really sad when France cut this land to the Laos people ' they don't respect our Khmer temple . And they also litter indiscriminately on the Khmer temple .

    I went to Wat Phou at the same time and was planning to go and visit the temple first day after the festival but was advised by a local woman to wait for a couple of days until they clean it all up. When I went 3 days after the festival it was super clean you could not even tell that the event took place. I absolutely loved it and Laos is one of my favorite countries, stunning scenery and amazing people.

      When we were there around the 2nd week of November, it was quite nice. Still some trash, but not as bad. I also went to this place where there was a large Buddha statue. Also a few other temples. The trip to Paksong and the surrounding areas was amazing! Food was cheap and hotels were quite reasonable.

    That's just sad. I was there with my family for vacation a couple of years ago. The littering is the biggest problem overall in Laos. I'm hopeful that there will be changes in attitude and policies regarding littering will take hold soon. I love the beauty of Laos and the people overall. I've traveled with my wife and kids from North to the deep South of Laos, and there were so many great places to visit. I believe it's one of the safest place to visit in Asia. I've taken my family to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and several other Asian and European countries, but Laos seems to give out a much warmer and more welcoming vibe than most. Not the cleanest by far....but worth the 5 weeks we spent exploring it. Next year will likely be closer to home with this Covid issue still not resolved. Once it's all cleared up....probably take the family to explore Laos again. This time, we'll link up with a few natives we've befriended and joined up for a few adventures while we were there. They promised to take us to places we've never seen and they're well connected enough to keep us safe. I have my family, so safety is my #1 priority. I felt Laos is safe enough.

      Yes laos is really wonderful and it feels like a very safe country to be in 🙂 there's something magical about it that always makes you want to stay longer! I hope you get to visit soon. Thanks for watching 🙏

Only a couple of years ago after getting and having kids did I go back for over a month. Would you recommend rainy season as the best time to see Laos?

    Unfortunately you went to visit the site the wrong period of the year. I've been several times over there during the last 16 years. Every year is like that, during and after the festival and there is nothing to do, it's Laos! Btw, the place is not littered during "normal" time.
    I Hope you are enjoying your trip over here!

    I was there in early feb 2017, it was really clean and no trash in sight. I’m sad to see it that way in your video. I hope people clean up after the festival. I remember the place to be very serene and had a majestic vibe to it. It’s actually an unfinished temple. The leader/organizer of Wat Phou was competing to finish their build with another temple in Thailand and lost and he committed suicide; so I was told by locals there.

      @bBenjamin Thominet... from the video, i agree with you and absolutely there should be security guards and cleaning up crew and authorities, as you said. within a few decades, wat phu will be in a worse condition. lao government should start asking archaeologist around the world to study and rebuild it.

    Good video, thanks. I suppose you have to ask whether there are adequate bins, refuse sacks, places for people to put their waste on site. My experience is Thailand, but maybe Laos is the same. Generally, there is little if anything, certainly not adequate. Maybe zero. Sure, critisize if there are plenty of options.

    • @phetindra8216
      @phetindra8216 4 года назад +1

      You see how narrow is the main street. Now imagine 100 thousand pilgrims fighting there way to the sanctuarium at the top, just in an evening. You have to park your car kilometers away and walk in. Vendors have trash bins all around but way too few.

    • @TravelsonToast
      @TravelsonToast  4 года назад

      Yes there definitely isn't enough bins and the ones that were there were over flowing, a couple of changes and this problem could be solved 🙂

    • @phetindra8216
      @phetindra8216 4 года назад +1

      @@TravelsonToast This issue had been taken on board over and over by the Lao authorities along years. Too big crowd for that small place. People trample out each other, hardly elbow room to lift your hand. I can't imagine putting more trash bins there. In the past the place used to be in remote area. One day of the festival was far enough. These days people flock from around the whole country. And they get three days for the pilgrims. I had been there several years ago, still have that crowd in front of my eyes.
