He died, can't use his powers, no longer has his job, and now the one thing that he thought was true about himself might not be true. He must be feeling useless, so when the thing that he could definitely do before (help people) is no longer able something that he can always do, I'm sure that just adds to it. Yes, is Liz right to be able to save herself and she shouldn't need anyone else, yes, 100%. But this is an extremely healthy relationship conversation. He is allowed weakness and he should be allowed to express that with the person he loves. Which is why Liz changed her tune a bit when he said that it wasn't fair that she is angry at him for expressing how his day was. This show is doing an actually really great job of allowing characters to be flawed while still helping us understand why they are doing or saying or acting the way they do. ALL the characters have been or are doing things that either aren't healthy, right, or honest. If this is what makes you hate Max, it'd be sad if you looked at all the other characters through that lens. Max has been having some shit going on, but while yes his initial fear he expresses here is irrational, he is not a bad person for feeling it when you look at all the crap that he has been through. BUT, if you notice, he is able to understand Liz's point of view as well. Which one of us hasn't vented irrationally with loved ones when we are feeling weak?
The best bit about this clip is it shows Liz loves Max with all his flaws and insecurities she still wants and needs him she is his soulmate.
They are so sweet and loving together its so cute.

This was one of the first times in the series that I started to hate Max.
