I just recently discovered your channel and have loved every video so far. Got a friend watching you too. You do good with the history and sites. Could listen to you all day.
I've been to Castroville once... as we were passing through on the way to Garner. I did get to admire the Landmark Inn for a few seconds as we passed by. I would really like to return and find all the historical markers.
The best season to visit Castorville is mid March thru April when the poppies are blooming. Many of the historic home plant poppies in the yard. Very beautiful walking tour.
I can’t get enough of your videos! I’ve seen all of them. Every time a new one comes out, I get so excited! I’m also a Texas hidden secrets adventurer. My dad taught me how fun and interesting the back roads are!
Fascinating town. They did a fabulous job bringing that timber-frame house there: It must be the oldest house in Texas! I wondered if people were living in the majority of the old houses as I didn't see too many parked cars near them.
I took it for granted for many years as there is a busy highway that slices through the town. Once you get off the highway a beautiful town suddenly appears.
Oh My what a beautiful place! It got so much beauty. Oh I fell in love with the church! Amazing and that one place I would love to visit? It seems so peaceful relaxing and so much to see! The property is so Green! It reminds of a place where people would go to retire. How far is the next town from there? Yum yum 😋 that bakery got me hungry! What is the population? Thanks for sharing! I really enjoyed it!
The population is around 3,000. It would be nice (in my opinion) if they made noisy highway 90 bypass the town. It would be more pleasant to visit. It's still very nice, however.
My grandparents, Mussman, lived in Biry also. Mom had some good stories of growing up on the farm. We drove through it about 10 years ago, not much left.
@@scottyg.4199 Reminds me of the movie 'A Trip To Bountiful' A story of a lady who wanted one last time to visit the place she grew up in. Finally she made it, but not much left of her town or home. Great movie.
Love your vids. Have you ever done one about "The Lady in Blue" of San Angelo, or the geographical center of Texas between Brady, and Brownwood? Keep them coming!
I lived in castroville and went to school there in the 60,s.the people there were clannish, hateful and ugly acting to any outsiders,it was hell being there.
The region the original settlers came from is technically called Alsac- Lorraine. It is a border region straddling France & Germany. Depending on the victor of a war & ruler, the area would either become a part of France or Germany. People generally spoke either language. Today the area lies within the French nation.
@@shirleybalinski4535 The People that settled there also came from Baden (Nowadays Germany). And the Language that the People spoke were actually german dialects (Alemannic german and franconian).
Do calm and murder go together? Murder and calm? Murder? The awfulness and terribleness of it will never be forgotten. There is still blood on the organ keys, and they used Bon Ami !
I visited Castroville several times when I lived in San Antonio.

I was very impressed by this town. I didn't realize how nice it was until recently.
I live there. 🙂
I live here. And boy did you do a good job making it look better than it actually is. Good job.
Got to make the drive and see this

Oh man, I could've seen this when I was visiting Laredo in October. This looks so quaint, European, and historic. I'm a sucker for that lol.
Very cool...a mini Quebec City right in Texas!
Really enjoyed this. Thank you

I didn't see any cars anywhere. Wounding how he managed that.
People do live in the vast majority of the old houses.
Been there!
What a cool town, I grew up here in Texas and had never heard of it. Sounds like a cool place to visit. Thanks for taking us along.
I’m about to go here for my rotations! Stoked 😍😍
Almost all of your videos I get tears in my eyes
you represent our heritage so well
I think of all my ancestors roaming Texas just like me
Thinking of heading down to San Antonio in December from Fort Worth, looking for attractions old people might enjoy.
Great video, interesting!
This is a great area to build housing projects.
What a lovely little town.
Amazing video. Great job. I never had heard of this quaint little village.

Castroville is a best kept secret in Texas. Lots of fun. It’s a great place to live.

@@scottyg.4199 that’s true - if the sign wasn’t there you would miss Biry! My Grandma’s family was Bilhartz.

6:25 gorgeous building. Is it boarded up?
Not to my knowledge

Yep that's true
Those homes are very different. Strong french community here in the past then but reading that sign he is Prussian! very confusing. 👍 👌 👊
The community was German speaking so it should be expected they would get immigrants - especially skilled ones, from other Germanic countries.

Das ist eine wunderbare Leistung, das Kulturerbe nicht vergessen zu haben. Ich bin Nachkomme von Elsässern in Indiana. Viel Glück!
So fine.
Alexis Texas is birthplace to Castroville, Texas.
Hey there, I really love your videos, How can I e-mail you for collaboration?
This is just BIZarro! Galveston truly was the NY of the West!
C'est bien la première fois que je vois un village américain dont les maisons sont construites en pierre et non pas en bois.
Normal cela vient des premiers habitants qui sont principalement originaires d'Alsace dans les années 1800 ceci explique la présence de maison à colombages.
Alsac/ Lorraine was area first settlers came from. The area is full of sandstone, rocky & hilly.
Castroville is a gorgeous town, it's charming.
My dad used to be the old mayor there
I'm Alsatian and this is real accurate
Thumbs up if you live in Castroville. 😁
