Years ago I went to a PIE shop in Fredericksburg. It had the BEST buttermilk pie I have ever had in my whole life. What a beautiful little town. We loved it.
I just want to thank you so much for posting these videos and showing the world how beautiful Texas is. I've watched each of your videos several times and you do an awesome job! Please please keep them coming! Cheers
just like in europe and here i see the germans being very orderly in everything they do. a beautiful town and eventually me and my wife would love to visit fredericksburg. we have been talking about it for about 3 years and so far it hasnt happen. but we just got to go and not make excuses.
I live close to Muenster another German town in North Texas and some of my German friends have told me about Fredericksburg and it's beauty at Christmas time. I know they always get excited to go to a relatives wedding down there.
3 years ago I went to Fredericksburg and went through the pioneer museum. One thing that highly impressed me was that each house had a recording that played when you entered the house. Told you all about the people that lived there. I remember well several of the building you showed. The Nemitz museum was under restoration so I didn't get to go there but definitely a lot of fun.
My great grandparents knew everyone in town in the 20's and 30's when the population was 100. My grandfather told me that the US use to bring German POW's to town during WW2 since the town was sympathetic and wouldn't kill them as fellow Germans. The becker vineyard tasting room use to be a car dealership owned by Crenwelge. My great grandfather had the competitor car dealership in town and use to sell AMC's. Crenwelge won out selling the Chevrolets. My great grandfather traded a car for their house in the 20's. Very interesting history. Different world back then.
Nicely done video of Fredericksburg. Both sides of my family are part of the early settlers of the area. My mother’s family owned the Ft Martin Scott property for a long time. She is the last surviving Braeutigam to live there. My father’s side had a part in the saw mill and lumber yard.
My family and I go out to Fredericksburg every spring to see the wildflower fields at the Wildseed Farm and explore the town. The history is awesome, the town is beautiful, the shopping and food are amazing. I adore this town. I would move there, but its expensive.
My Scottish ancestors settled east of (the fort)Fredericksburg around 1850, and by 1854, settled in the Bandera area... Judge George Hay was one of the original settlers.
This video is very informative for people who have never been/ hardly go to Fredericksburg. You hit the best spots! i recommend picking up a Best of Fredericksburg magazine in town if you ever go again. They are free and It helped me navigate the shops, restaurants/ bars and touched on some historic parts of the town too. Can’t wait to go back!!
My maternal grandmother moved to San Antonio from Chicago in the 1920s. I grew up in San Antonio in the 50s & 60s. I don’t remember ever going to Fredericksburg. I feel a desire to return and explore. For now, I will explore on your wonderful channel. Thank you! Subscribed.
I've been to Fredericksburg for a Trade Show when I traveled as a Vendor. It was a cute and quaint town. I had to go to the Ace Hardware there. I don't remember too much but the People were so Nice and down to earth. Good times!
My maternal and paternal side of my family have strong ties to Fredericksburg. My mother worked at the Nimitz Hotel in the early 1900's and my great grandfather erected the two story stone building at 218 W. Main St.
The main street is extraordinarily wide because of the cattle drives. St. Mary’s is one of his series of what are called the painted churches throughout southern Texas. If you Google the painted churches of Texas and live nearby it is a great one day tour. Each one is a special gem. If you visit Fredericksburg for more than a day plan a few hours side trip to Luckenbach. It’s about 30 minutes away. And you only need to spend about 30 minutes to see all of it.
Great info vid. Thanks ! The building shown first, the round structure with a tower in the center was used in a very low budget early sixties horror film titled "The Naked Witch". Its director, Larry Buchanan, was a native Texan and prolific filmmaker. In the horror flick, the town is Luchenbach (sic) according to the voiceover narration.
Love Fredericksburg. I especially enjoyed the Chester Nimitz War Museum. There was a place that had a collection of old German and Texas made schutzen rifles, but I don't remember the name of the place or if 8t still exists.
One thing about Fredericksburg you can only scratch the surface in a 12 minute video. Always fly out there and land at the airport and stay at the hangar hotel it’s a super nice place and generally cheaper than anything in town I was sure you were going to include the Batcave south of town. Where the old train went through the mountain it is a little state park and I know how you like hiking so it would’ve been right up your alley.
This is a wonderful collection of information about Fredericksburg, past and present. Thank you. - it would be a bit better if you started fewer of the sections with the word "So".
There's an Amish Market on Main St which is a must stop for my family for cheeses, jams, etc. I try to get F-R-O-G Jam every time (fig-rasperry-orange-ginger). The back room has the handmade Amish quilts & furniture. Amish buggies are parked out front. Then there are those famous Fredericksburg PEACHES! Around May and well into June, there are several places to get fresh peaches and scrumptious peach cobblers. Das Peach Haus being only one such place.
Maybe do a segment on Panna Maria...oldest permanent Polish settlement in the USA...interesting history. They hold an annual Homecoming Dinner on the 2nd Sunday of each October. I've attended several times and there were always lots of people. There's a Polish Heritage Center, as well.
Absolutely beautiful but has become an enclave of the very wealthy. Gonna take lots of bucks to buy and live their . Still a very nice place to visit for the average folks.
Your information about wineries is a little inaccurate. The German settlers brought grapevines with them to support wine for Church use. The grapes flourished. During the infamous blight that decimated the vineyards in California grapevines were brought from Texas to reestablish the vineyards. My Family's vineyard near Luckenbach had vines that were over 100 years old!
I’ve met people from there who tried to speak to me in German and their German was SOOO bad I couldn’t understand it. They thought it was good. They would say “ I bet you couldn’t understand me” being rather honest I said, well your accent is very different so no I didn’t understand you perhaps if you say it in English then I’ll respond to you in German. This one man did understand when I replied. 🤣

EXPENSIVE!!!…don’t bother trying to live here, all the people from Cali have driven up home prices so much, it’s impossible to buy unless you are a millionaire
As a native of Fredericksburg I feel the need to point out a thing or two. First the "Vireinse Kriehe" also know as the "public church" was original located in the middle of HWY 281/290 and a replica relocated approx 200 yrds south. Second most of the "original" homes shown are tourist replica's. This has become the tourist trap of Texas and is in no way representative of the true folk that settled and made the town.
I dont know how true but Texans go to California to buy winery Californians come to Texas to start a winery??? I heard or read that years ago Dont remember where
Or wine, wineries are by far the biggest attraction here in Fredericksburg. People come from San Antonio and Austin, to rent a B&B and visit the wineries. Every third house is a B&B and the housing market is terrible for buyers
We have enjoyed visiting Fredericksburg for about 40 years. But...since the winery take over it isn't what it used to be. We would come 2 or 3 times a year, until the last 10 years or so and we have stopped coming except for the occasional day trip for the Swap Meet.
I have heard that some of these beautiful towns are very racist, but for me I don’t permit to be discriminated because my money is the same as those that are racist or that discriminate because they think they are better than others!
Yeah, the whole main drag is just cheap tourist shops selling overpriced crap. I've yet to have a good meal there, either. Then there is the hilarious wineries surrounding the town, with busloads of tourists unloading to buy bottles of "Cheateau de Lubbock."
That’s all there is in Fredericksburg the buildings . But the people that live there make Fredericksburg a awful place to live!!! A lot of racism , not to mention the corrupt police department!!
I was waiting to read something about racism, I heard about other places that are so beautiful to visit but you hear comments about how the people that live there are so racist .
@@sally4900 unfortunately the German seniors are the most racist There in Fredericksburg tx. If you are planning to visit be careful with the police they are racist as well!! I lived there I know.
Absolutely amazing to see buildings constructed in the 1800's. Beautiful town.

Fredericksburg is probably the most popular tourist town aka pueblo. San Antonio is one the most popular cities.
You must not like the military since so little was given to the towns major attractions, the Nimitz museum and the Pacific war museum.

This buildings all look not very german. Calling a building from 1881 historic sounds funny for a European.
You have to remember this is a relatively young country, so yes, 1881 is “historic.” Historic doesn’t necessarily mean old.
