Near the end when he said "The Aurora just blew up" I thought 'It blows up again?' Took me a second to realize that he beat the game within like 3 ingame days.
@@SondreGrneng it depends when you first play it 100% but on my second playthrough i was instantly after getting the sea glide at the island to get diamonds
I've spent literally hours watching Salvner run this game. I really like how his commentary feels like a stand-up routine that's clearly well practised. Really glad to see him represent the game at AGDQ, definitely who I'd have picked to showcase it.
Read this and was like yeah okay it was actually kind of a weak applause then the run ended and I realised there was like 10 people watching, not the hundred or so I assumed. Shows how good the explanation and skills were from salvner.
@@firmtomato7226 It's to be expected though. The big games will draw a crowd where not everyone is equally passionate about the game. Other, less played games will have very dedicated and interested crowds, it's the same as a big venue concert vs small venue concert.
Fear of the deep is a very real thing. Just like the fear of heights it's essentially fueled by common sense and survival. It's called thallasophobia by the way.
Although the start was a bit ugly (due to rng of course), what I loved about this is that the spawn wasn't predetermined by a save file, runner had to improvise from start to finish. Great run
Not gonna lie, this runner and their commentary is something I just love. I'm a sucker for this game and hearing this commentary which sounds just like one you'd here from a presentation at a Zoo is fantastic
I just beat this game today. Steam tells me my first run took me 50.8 hours. The tricks used in this run literally dropped my jaw multiple times. My favorite trick is the Hatch disassemble in order to death warp back at the correct base after getting the purple tablet and ion cube. This run is mind blowing. Something you can only truly appreciate after playing the game yourself. Amazing job all around.
Nighthawk was still entertaining to see how he dealt with the sub optimum spawn and general bad luck he had with RNG. He did a great job with his backup strats.
Engaging and fun commentary for an amazing game, what a great speedrun. Always great to see Subnautica getting some love. (...you can maybe pet the 'dog'...)
Speedrunners already must be frightened playing games in front of such a large audience - but to play one of the scariest games out there, let alone speedrun it... Balls of Steel.
Subnautica wasn’t really designed to be scary. It anything, fear was a secondary aesthetic, and even then it’s only that way to people who have a fear of the ocean (which albeit is a very common fear). Now if you’re trying to speedrun Alien: Isolation, that’s a completely different story.
Imagine crash landing to an unknown planet, meet the god of the planet, cure your disease, decipher alien technology, and building a space ship in just shy of an hour..
I can't wait to see Below Zero speedruns when it's finished, there are so many quality of life improvements that'll affect speedruns and I want to see how that works out!
honestly, just take your prawn (with drill) and search the lost river for it. it's actually not that bad, even through the blood kelp corridor (near lifepod 2), where there's a juvenile ghost leviathan. there's lots of nickel scattered around, and you can even find it outside of the brine. good luck! also, bring the prawn in your cyclops, and make sure you have the grapple arm too, or getting out will be HELL.
Who doesnt know that Subnautica has story (and it has by far the best story of all survival games)? :o it literally says it everytime to follow the story ..
I to have a phobia of deep water but I actually had no problem with this game. You do need to get past a few jump scares and panic a few times though, but at that point it becomes almost therapeutic :) That being said, if you've seen any more footage than this I would wager that it wouldn't be as enjoyable as the blind run I was blessed with :P This is probably also a game that has very low replay value for most people (including me) but I feel like it's worth the price anyway, seeing that it's hardly more than you would pay to eat out at a reasonably fancy place or go watch a movie with friends etc. etc. ^^
You’re not alone, Salvner, the Seaglide has to be one of the most stubborn blueprints. I’ve only had ONE play through where I found enough parts in a reasonable amount of time. Most of my playthroughs have ended with me getting the SEAMOTH before I got the Seaglide.
_i just got this time capsule in my game._ it was down in the trench near the alien vent by lifepod 19, how did it go ungrabbed for _this long oh my god_

Wait wait wait. It just blew up? *BOOM*
That really put it into perspective to me, by that time, I,, and probably most others, haven't even left the shallows.

He's thinking out loud and I love it when people do that. It makes it so much more digestible.
"literally hours"
So at least 2 runs, then?
I like how he was getting ready to get out of the planet at the same time of the detonation countdown of the aurora drive core
"miss me with that shit"
I've heard weaker applause from larger crowds.
Even though he murdered it. The commentary was amazing, even as a person who has only watched let's plays of the game and never played it.

It was also at like 3 am local time!
Sea Emperor: "Come here, to me"
Player, already leaving in a rocket: "wut"
This was the comfiest possible way to consume Subnautica, and there were still parts where I got anxious. This game is terrifying.
Why do people find this terrifying? It's so beautiful
going down on the lava castle is scary in this speedruna dn the actual game.
Fear of the deep is a very real thing. Just like the fear of heights it's essentially fueled by common sense and survival.
It's called thallasophobia by the way.
@@daanishaltaf2906 the game is gorgeous for sure, but fuuuuuuuck deep water.
@@paulelderson934 For me it's not so much the deep water as much as the giant scary creatures that live in it

this is some of the best commentary ive heard
By this time I only got 1 seamoth fragment.
Knew what a Seamoth fragment was? O still didn't know how take water until I picked up a bladderfish on accident
And an inventory full of mushrooms
Honestly I wouldnt have been mad if he had just reset the run when he didnt get the sea glide quickly
Just beat this game myself and loved it, fantastic run!
Thumbs up to the developers for donating, watching and certainly for making such a great game.

A breathtaking run of an amazing game. So good to see someone just demolish it like that.
This run was
F A N T A S T I C
Stayed up til 4 just to watch this live. Great run salv, even with the sea glide rng!
Bro same thing for me i really should go to sleep
"Subnautica basically is an underwater minecraft"
Oh, yeah, I love it when I find diamonds in the reef.
Too bad they removed the ability to strip mine 😂😂
cupcake kitten funny thing is in beta or something that was technically possible you wouldn’t find anything but was an interesting item
That was an amazing couch introduction
Shit luck and still over 8 minutes under estimate. Great job all around.
Damn, what poor luck! Good on Salvner for adapting so well!
Very happy for Salvner, watched quite a few of his Subnautica WRs. One of the best speedrunners just because of his commentary.
when he started building objects underwater, i only decided to beat my fear and swim to the creepvines
Great commentary
Damn, unlucky start to this run
Nighthawk was still entertaining to see how he dealt with the sub optimum spawn and general bad luck he had with RNG. He did a great job with his backup strats.
Salvner is always fun to watch because of his amazing commentary.

Awesome game, great run, top notch commentary...how can he talk so much while still executing a bajillion tasks and counting all resources? xD
You see him speedruning this game and then You see me over here scared shitless because im to afraid to leve my pod
This was such an awesome run! One of my favorites from AGDQ 2020 even though I know literally nothing about Subnautica!
Great run with great commentary. Thank you very much.
Love his commentary. Very informative and well-practiced.

So glad to see this game at GDQ!
I saw him pick up the first moonpool fragment, looked at the comments for 5 seconds, and he already had a moonpool. Great run!
Love this game, very interesting watching a speedrun of it :)
Great run thanks everyone running AGDQ, runner and couch : )
very good commentary from the runner.
All it takes to find this amazing speedrun is to find a time capsule in said game; love it
subnautica team looking at all these glitches
:PATCH THAT PATCH THAT RIGHT THE FUCK NOW
alright guys we just heard the aurora went down, lets go and find survivors.
captain, the only survivor is here
I love that “tooth-breaking” sound from the danger doggos :P

Fantastic run, mate.
It takes me three hours and thirty minuets just to make a house away from the life pod.
HoW
People who're still here, I've found it, I have found the time capsule.
I'm scared when I get to 400M, I'm never gonna get nickel.
Good luck

I never even saw one of the tiny potatoes, I was convinced it was gated by the drill arm that lets you get the big ones
nice run, actually finished rocket before aurora exploded, amazing
This was... Fantastic.
For somebody with a deathly fear of video game water, this game is hell.
Same boat. Sm64 and Bioshock ruined me.
I got that time capsule doing my second playthrough right next to the hull of the aurora lol
Great run, very informative!
Wish i knew you could glitch back into the Aurora when I hadn't saved in two hours and was stuck in the model
As an individual with severe Thalassophobia, I don't know why I bought this game. But I did. And I have hardly touched it. But FUCK is it good!
Cool shit, good seeing this still ongoing. Props.
Sick. Guy playing had a really good vibe.
Mesmerising... Subnautica is just awesome
Oh wow, I've never seen a Subnautica run that consistently had more bad luck :D
But it was still entertaining and educational all the same, as always.
Reminds me to replay this some time, it's really good. Can't wait for BZ full release.
Subnautic team donation finished at 1337 into the video. Weird coincidence lol
One of my favorite games.
Loved the runner, and the game
boy that's a lot of crafting
I've never heard of this game but the dude is killin it
Oh yeah if you have a chance to play it--it's genuinely amaizng.

Wow the devs put 5k in donations. Nice !
Loved this game.
56 minutes in I was still on the loading screen
Probably my favorite game, ever. Got my, generally, non-gamer wife to start it as well and she is hooked!
The dual fabricators makes my head spin. 😅
I wonder how long it took him to learn the muscle memory of dual wielding fabricators 🤔
I accidentally deleted my save so I am watching this to get back to where I was, as quickly as possible!
liked the runner and his commetary, greetings from Honduras
you can feel him praying for a good spawn before the run
Me after 3 hours in subnautica:"woo, repaired aurora core"
i wish i was in the crowd GDQ ...you make me shine
Imagine completing the game without opening the pda
Pretty sure I found that time capsule on my first run!
Imagine the spot you spawn in was random
And you spawned right above a reaper leviathan
It is
Did the Aurora clipping by misstake on my first playthrough, kinda ruined my immersion.
Never knew you can speedrun this
I love all of the running jokes/"copypastas" Salvner does
Love this guy.
