- Highlights of Rory McIlroy's Hero Dubai Desert Classic, his third win at Emirates Golf Club, as he started his calendar year with victory.

Rory McIlroy will take centre stage at this year’s Dubai Desert Classic as the DP World Tour continues its desert swing in the Middle East. The World No.1 will be teeing it up at the second Rolex Series event of the season, alongside compatriot and 2022 BMW Championship winner Shane Lowry, and former Ryder Cup teammate Francesco Molinari. Winner of last week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship Victor Perez will once again be in action, hoping to continue his excellent form. Two-time winner of the event Stephen Gallacher will be making a remarkable 23rd appearance and the Dubai Desert classic and remains the only player in its 33-year history to have achieved back-to-back wins in Dubai.

Not during these 4 rounds though: he missed the fairway more often than he hit it. It was his short game (and in particular his putting, which has radically improved since a year ago) which won him the tournament.

I was told when I was younger I had the most natural perfect swing ever seen..........................but when a ball was placed in front of me it looked like I was whisking spaghetti with a snooker cue.

@@DiverFPL His ball went into a palm tree off the tee. He then told a rules official that he could see his ball with his marking on it in the tree. However the TV camera's prove that he was looking in the wrong tree. So either he planted a ball there before the tournament, or he lied about being able to see it.

Funny thing is... I love them both. I love the sort of 'enfant terrible' of golf that is Reed, with his silly rule-breaking stuff and stupid statements. There's always something going on with him, either off- or on course. The guy just makes me laugh... he's only human in that there are lots of people just like him. Somehow I've never considered him to be a 'bad person'. I love Rory for his devotion to the the sport, his well-chosen words, his class, his emotions... huge fan of him.

It feels like Rory started to play well since the LIV vs PGA drama because it gave him another focus point and motivation. He stepped up each time he had to go into a marquee match-up against a LIV player. Smith at tour championship and now Reed. Let's keep up the focus and complete the career grand slam at the Masters!!!

In a way Rory should thank LIV golf, Greg Norman, Patrick Reed etc for jump starting his career. After getting a 200 mil contract from Nike Rory sleep walked thru many years of his prime. It was frustrating for me as a fan to only see flashes of his great talent and nothing more. But LIV golf got his Irish temper up and he is responding brilliantly. Fun to watch a major talent play hard again.
