  • Whether it's a holdover from the “just one more quarter” era when the arcade reigned supreme, or simply a desire to harken back to the days when games kicked you into the mud and had you begging for more, some video games are more than willing to cross that line and take things as far as they can legally get away with. Here are 10 More of The Most Challenging Video Games of All Time!

Returnal is SO good though. I've still not even beaten the game once, but I keep playing when I can because it's just so damn good. It's hard as hell, and I'll probably never be able to beat it (my nearly 50 year old ass just can't do the speed needed lol) but man it's just an amazing game. So glad it's getting so much love from people now since I feel like when it came out, it didn't. Plus being on PC after being Playstation only for a while - is good lol

Try one of Project Moon's games and prepare to go just as insane as the characters.
Lobotomy Corporation for instance see you trying to manage various abnormalities. They start out simple, but get increasingly troublesome quirks as the game goes on. And this while trying to manage all the others as well. What was once perhaps a small annoyance at screwing up could turn into an outright disaster in a heartbeat. And then there are the meltdowns which add their own special rules to the proceedings. And it gets especially bad near the end where you have to deal with multiple meltdown rules at once. Library of Ruina meanwhile trades the monster management for a card system with so many interlocking systems that you will be surprised with how many ways the game finds to screw you over. oh, and there is heavy RNG involved as well, with a single bad roll possibly leading to a game over.
Radiant Silvergun is the game made before Ikaruga and is even more hard.
Not only do you have more weapons that you have to manage on very long stages with multiple bosses, but score is very important here as it is required to keep your weapons power going. This becomes significantly more complicated with the combo system that, unlike Ikaruga, forces you to stay on a single color for the whole play-through if you want to keep the score going.
And then there is Pathologic 2 with brutal survival mechanics. And things will only spiral further and further as survival gets harder and harder.
You are trying to stay alive in a plague infested town while also doing your job as a doctor to keep other people alive, something that get's harder and harder as resources become more scarce and the plague spreads more and more. Oh, and you have a time limit as well to consider. So yea, no pressure.
Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous manages to be a stiff challenge by adapting the Pathfinder 1e ruleset to game form and it is not keen on holding your hand.
Not only do you have to keep track on how you want to build your character to be efficient, but also so with your party members, and this before getting into how to deal with resistances, buffs and debuffs that goes on for layers and layers.

Huh. While the game as a whole is not that hard, Sonic Frontiers, intentionally or not, seems to reference at least two games on this list:
    - A recurring minigame in the base game, as well as a boss battle, are directly inspired by Ikaruga, which was developed on SEGA hardware. Historically, some Sonic bosses have had light "bullet hell" obstacle courses, but this was going all the way.
    - In the DLC, on hard difficulty, the challenge towers have reminded some people of Getting Over It, until they were patched to tone down the difficulty. Vertical climbs requiring perfect play over slippery terrain, where one slip sends you back to the beginning as unlike the base game version, there are no checkpoint pulleys. As a spiteful last touch, the towers require you to stick a jump landing at the very end or redo the whole thing.

I don't mean this in a harsh way, but why are you speaking so slowlllyyyyy in the voiceover? You seem to hold the last syllable for an extra beat, it's quite distracting (or else I am going insane and imagining it?)

No hard game ever bothered me. I'll always play on the easiest option. And once I've died maybe twice in a game, it's straight in with the Cheat Engine. And really. I mean if I die twice in the first 5 minutes of a game I'm cheating from there on out.
It's why I loved Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 so much. Because they literally added in beginner modes that made it almost impossible to die whilst enjoying the play through.
