Here we are with the "choose a main" video for DnF Duel! All characters covered and ideally this will help you understand what characters you may like in the game and who you might want to play from there! The roster is very diverse, and every character basically plays like a "boss version" of their archetype. Overall character power is much higher in DnF Duel than in other modern fighters, and I consider that a pretty good thing! Also forgive a few characters where their intro bit says Striker, I was up all night making the video and when you are tired you make boo boos If you want to learn more about DnF Duel, check the links in the video description!
Can anybody tell me what happened to the "fighting" section of the PS Store? If you go to genre to search games by category, there's not a fighting game category. What happened?
Thank you for this extensive guide really useful. I have a suggestion for future guides like these. Do you find it a good idea to give characters a one 1 to 3 star rating based on there ease of pickup and play? I can imagine the Striker being a lot easier with the free combostructure than the enchantress for instance but others might not be as obvious.
These "Choose a Main" videos are insanely helpful. Boiling each character down to an archetype, gameplan, and hot take helps distinguish each of them from the rest. Would you ever consider making these for past games like USFIV or MKX? Community recources back then aren't what they are now and I could see it being helpful for vets and newcomers alike
If there's a reason for an older game to have a bit of spotlight back on it again like say the recent Darkstalkers videos then sure. Otherwise these sort of videos take an immense amount of time to put together and sadly in a way I would have to be a bit mercenary about it because if I did something for MKX, which would be probably a 2 hour video cause I would also cover every single variation, and it got like 2000 views, it basically would have been a waste of my time as I coulda just slapped any other video together for much less effort and have done better for the channel. I hate that I have to think that way but its the reality of the situation.
Yeah this video helped me a lot. Im not super used to a lot of 2d fighters, playing mainly soul calibur and Tekken, and I was bouncing ideas for who I wanted to main for the last 3 days. Helpful insight!
After a thorough consideration of the video, the cast at large, system mechanics, abilities and style I'm picking grappler, like in literally every other fighting game
DnF Duel pretty dang cool! Crusader and Grappler are the two chars I like the most right now, so that means they are probably the worst characters cause thats usually how it goes with me. That all said game is downright neat and the netcode is world class in quality so give the game a spin!
Now that we have the netcode we all spent years asking for we shouldn’t take it for granted! Listen to papa rooflemonger and get the game if you like it guys
@@Zevox87 i completely agree with this…. however granted the crusader has large normals and 3 strong projectiles (the wall has a hitbox so it counts) he would probably have a good match up against characters that other big bodies would struggle with. Plus being able to get wall pressure from anywhere on the screen or confirm, i think crusader will at least be a pretty decent character. Far from high tier given his competition but likely not bottom tier. And even if he is low tier it probably wont be by a large margin sadly i dont think grappler will be as lucky however. especially considering that this is a game where everyone has at least half screen normals, his short range and slow speed will have him struggle alot more than crusader would.
As a real life grappler (I've practiced judo since I was 4) I'm SO happy to finally see a grappler that isn't just big boy zangief with a new coat of paint and that is even remotely close to my size (I'm 5'7"), finally I feel a little represented. I don't care if he's trash or top tier, I'm gonna main him till the day I die and I'm going to be happy doing so :)
Whilst Ranger can be a zoner, he's very much capable as a rushdown fighter as well. So if you thought being pressured from across the screen was bad, that's only a mere quarter of his full power.
The next most exciting thing after a new fg release is rooflemonger’s beginner and hour long character guide. Its such a relaxing thing to watch. The voice is just 👌🏼
Striker is mentioned multiple times because that's why we're all getting this game. We finally have Jam at home because we couldn't get one for Strive.
Unless something has changed since the betas, Kunoichi's standing kunai throw is actually a really great projectile against Ranger because it counts as three separate projectiles instead of a single one. So what will happen is that Ranger will shoot one bullet to cancel a single kunai, but the other two will still hit the Ranger.
In dungeon fighter, the f. striker functions pretty much the same way as in duel. It's all about cancelling moves into other moves. She is THE cancel character. Launcher looks more fun than I expected she would. 100% buying this. Can't wait.
the Fstriker class in the original game has a passive skill called Muscle Shift, which allowed her to cancel any move and chain into any other. crazy how that got translated into an actual fighting game. personally i'm waiting for the bralwer line to come in, probably in one of the season passes. it's a slow poison and CC based class with a signature ground and pound move. would be fun to see how that gets implimented and how much hair by weight she'll make opponents tear out.
I stopped playing fighting games since the 2nd DnF beta. I am absolutely hype for the release tomorrow. See you all online. I think Rooflemonger should try hosting a tournament.
I love your hype and enthusiasm for this game! Along with Elden Ring it was one of the two games I have been waiting for and I hope a lot of people enjoy it!
I really like these videos.. even if I don't play the game it's nice to appreciate how varied rosters can be and how traditional fighting game archetypes are implemented in different games. And you always show enough of the character to be interesting and show off what's unique about them without going too in depth. It's obvious you put a lot of effort in, so thank you.
I love Striker's ability to chain heavies into medium or lights, I normally play the heavy hitters in Fighting games, because I suck at combos, but having the ability to chain so many moves together actually let's me play a rushdown combo character for once and it's really fun.
Love your how to videos. Used to be a huge fighting game fan old mk1 2 3 and sf2 fan. The new fighters seem so overwhelming but with your videos it helps so much. So thank you so much
Thank you for making this fantastic video sir. Really provided a solid understanding of which character was what specific fighting game archetype. Very impressed with how well each character here does represent that specific play style. Laughed my head off when I saw you type Quick Master as 'Cheap Garbage' but it is aptly put. Looking forward to more DNF coverage.
I've been using your videos to aid me into jumping into anime-type fighters like GGStrive and now DNF Duel, and you've been a really big help. Thanks for making such helpful, informed, and easily digestible content!
I played a little this morning, with Berserker's story mode. I really like how easy to get into the game is. Unlike many other fighting games I played, I actually want to try and play with everyone.
I'm here for Epic's free game. Me and my brothers all got the game and are planning some matches. If I really enjoy the game, I'll support them with the Battle Pass in hopes this may turn into a other FG franchise. Edit: I found 4 characters I like. I'll check their entire moveset in prsxtice to decide which will be my true main
When I'm not doing my own thing on here you and Max is all I watch all the time thank you so much for all you do for this community. Can't wait for tomz
Can always count on rooflemonger to come through with character overviews. I had an idea of who I was gonna like this just helped to confirm. Each character just seems like a blast though. Haven't been this excited to jump into a fighting game in a minute. Thank you DNF Duel. All I need now is SF6 to keep the momentum and my excitement high...and they seem to be on track with that so, lol.!
Recently got into fighting games, been gaming my whole life and I absolutely love this one. Got mk11, tekken 7 and ultimax but this one by far feels the best and looks the best to me. Not sure why but as a new player to the fighting genre it hits me in the right way in a lot of ways.
I know the game is basically dead now, but I think we were all way too used to huge hype patches. The game still slaps, and the patch fixed the gnarly bits that should have been fixed.
Love the youtube chapter titles. "YEAH SAYS STRIKER, WANNA FIGHT?" had me rolling. Video was a good watch and very informative. Good job, man. Didn't really need it myself since I've known who to pick up from the beginning, though. I'll be using the Grappler. The way he slams everyone into the ground is just so satisfying.
I hope they add more of the subclasses like Engineer, Spitfire, Nen Master, Witch, Elementalist, etc. etc. All of these characters are advanced forms of their basic form, the pumpkin from the Enchantress is her basic mage move on steroids
As someone getting into fighting games for the first time seriously your beginner guides/which character to choose videos have been helpful and enjoyable to watch. Decided to go with GGStrive first but you make DNF a very interesting second in the future
No mention of Kunoichi's double jump and ability to follow up a DP! Those two options are some of the most frustrating bits I encountered when playing against my partner! Love the video overall though! Thanks for your effort here!
I still remember the time I threw myself at a really good Berserker player in the first open beta and lost 30 matches before I could get 1 against him! I think Berserker will be a VERY strong character in the right hands, because the way his gameplan works meshes well with the universal mechanics of this game. Frenzy gives him full control over when he wants to convert and can make it easier to put himself at 30% if he wants to get his Life Steal passive. Plus, Frenzy's vacuum attack can catch people who DARE to press buttons against him in neutral! That being said, I still would like to play Crusader! I still love how he plays, but I never learned his full potential with his armor bubble. I'm getting giddy thinking about what I could do with that! :3
You demonstrating Swift Master was probably the funniest thing I saw all day. I keep asking does it end after every special and you kept going. That character is wonkers and looking forward to their high level play some day.
Probably sticking with Crusader after playing with him alone mostly from the First two Betas of the Game. Big normals/projectiles , big presence, Counter and a DP? The Lord is definitely on my side with this character. Don't know if I'll find a second character to play, but I played a little bit of Dragon Knight in betas too so might explore her more as well.
I gotta say, 16 characters on launch is pretty generous for an Arcsys game. And considering their fighters value quality over quantity, that says something.
Man I love your videos. Downloading my DNF Duel as we speak. Every time I watch one of your videos, my wife goes "hellloooo and welllcomme" haha amazing bro, keep up the great work!
Big Roof, you've done it again! Everytime I think I've found a main for this game, another character shows up and I make the Gobou face from the Strive grand finals of Red Bull Kumite in Las Vegas when his Goldlewis was catching bodies! So much grease.... 🤣💯 Can't wait until you start dropping tech videos for this one!
Due to being a Zato player since childhood, my character choice is predetermined. BAROQUE BEAR GRABS TOO? Inquisitor and Ghostblade are kind of nice too.
Great video. I love these character guides as they are so helpful when your new to fighting game. I wonder if this game with get DLC characters down the road
Obviously, I'm an old KOF fan and was gladly welcoming KOF XV, but this DNF Duel game, from which I knew nothing about, is really fun to play right now ! The diversity of the cast is truly different! Thanks for the video !
I played inquisitor in the beta, I tried new characters, and inquisitor still feels the most insanely natural in my hands. She swings the axe. Has a dash. Her moves could be anything really. Her normals and that dash got me playin her.
Can’t wait to play Lost Warrior. He just seems so cool with so many cool and tricky mechanics. An awesome design, awesome gameplay, the time stop. He looks so tricky and fun.
They all seem cool, and what is neat is while having a main is obviously the move if you want to be competitive, I tried many characters in the betas (just went full random select) and it's super easy to pick up a new character. Having all the specials be one button, or even if you use motions, the motions are all the same for similar moves, plus the way the game is just kinda "go ham" the game, it's really just a joy to try a new character. I love more complex games, but it can feel like you need to study in the lab for an hour before you can take a new character online. This game, I mean, you can and should lab out a couple combos, but you can also just say screw it can go straight into matches and figure it out on the fly.
Thanks for the video that was amazingly helpful , my mind was set on Swiftmaster because I played a male mage in the DNG mmo , and honestly , he just looks so cool , I'm SOLD
Regarding Dragon Knight you can actually hit Astra (her dragon) and get the pressure to stop. Astra will flinch and no longer throw out the input. Also it’s easy to put Ranger into the full-screen zoner category, however I found his most effective range is close/mid screen in the beta. His crouch medium can hit full screen and trip you so he can close the distance and rush you down into corner pressure.
I think Lost warrior is a type of snowball character, like, the more you cross-up, side switch and just play this character, the faster you get the time stop.

So much grease.... 🤣💯 Can't wait until you start dropping tech videos for this one!
I've been waiting for this video all day! Thanks for delivering monger! 🔥🔥
Your video has really helped me decide if I am going to get the game or not (you convinced me to). So thank you for your effort.
Thank you as always for the wonderful detailed breakdowns, rooflemonger.
Love you for this man! This showed me everything I needed to know.
I’m sold on this game now
Due to being a Zato player since childhood, my character choice is predetermined. BAROQUE BEAR GRABS TOO?
Inquisitor and Ghostblade are kind of nice too.
"The Inquisitor wants you to go to hell." LOL
Ghostblade are character for someone who love Stand Tandem.
Great video. I love these character guides as they are so helpful when your new to fighting game. I wonder if this game with get DLC characters down the road
Oh I am sure it will, especially because the most popular dfo character(by my understand, the female spectre) isn't actually in the game yet
I can’t choose a main. Every time I hit the character select screen I just stay and vibe to that theme lol
I love Dynasty Warriors and Vanguard has that Lu Bu range. Lol. Can’t wait to play him!
Balance: "Hey ArcSys, I think we should talk."
ArcSys: "New phone. Who dis?"
Doesn't the S followup have invuln on the dragon?
With half the cast calling to me, who knows how long it's gonna take me to narrow down to 1 or 2 mains.
Loved the videos helps me choose a main without all the complex info! New sub
I think Lost warrior is a type of snowball character, like, the more you cross-up, side switch and just play this character, the faster you get the time stop.
From this I learned: This game is unapologetically *JANK*
Thanks for the neat content!
AYOOOO! Got snacks and ready to watch!
Swiftmaster, Striker, and Kunoichi for me so far. Also that archetype name for Swift XD
I’m thinking I know who I want to main, but I have 58 minutes of this video to get through before I decide for sure.
:)
