This pattern is called ‘the jellyroll race’. I you join your jelly rolls with a contrasting colour you get a great look to the pattern.

@@WhereWendyCreates You could put a plain border then a piano keys border, then another plain strip, to use up more scraps and get it bigger? Piano keys bits can be sewn together anytime, then added on to a roll. Of ready made borders, like Tiffany does.

Put a clip on the end of the first strip. It makes it easier to find when you've sewn the strips together.

👋👩‍🦳👍🇦🇺 Thanks-I really needed this demonstration because I have been planning to make a jelly roll quilt table runner and a cat bed blanket for months and you are helping me to focus on the project ahead of me ❤

Glad it was helpful! Great ideas. Tell me more about your table runner thoughts. Color? Horizontal or vertical?

Is the way that you join your strips a personal preference? I have seen it sewn straight across as well. I was wondering if it makes a difference.

Joining the strips at an angle uses slightly more fabric & adds visual interest.

The angle of the fabric is a way to spread out seams to give less layers. It is also a nice angle to give the eyes. Straight or angled is both beautiful and neither is right or wrong.

In my opinion it is not necessary to show all the sewing.

Please keep the area around your sewing machine needle free of already sewn fabric. Several times, the curled fabric almost got caught in the moving needle.

You are not alone my friend. I like to go fast and have to remind myself that slow is accurate and accurate is slow. Happy sewing 🤗

Put a rubber bath mat under your machine and foot pedal so they don't walk around.
