- Blue Tongue Skinks are one of the reasons I got into reptiles when I was a child. My earliest memory of reptiles was seeing one of these beauties on the TV and I was hooked!
I go over everything you need to know about Blue Tongue Skinks in this week's episode of Wickens Wicked Reptiles

I absolutely love my bts! They are amazing, I hope you have many years with yours. Enjoy!
Thank you it’s been so long that I wanted a blue tongue skink
same, so long!
Tks! I'm planning to keep a Blue Tongue Skink, and this video is really helpful
Great video as always! 🙌🏻
Kaleigh Bell thanks so muc!
Thank you for the informative video! I can't wait to home one some day when I have space for more reptiles.
I love these guys, thanks so much for watching
Thanks I just brought one and he's great
Appreciate this video, since I'm very much planning to get a blue tongue as soon as the reptile shows in my area are able to start up again.
Glad I could help!
TOP Great content! keep rocking it
Love all the info in your videos. I would like to know what your opinion will be on the top 5 reptiles for a beginner that I can easily take out on walks or to the shops during the day. I have no reptiles yet just because it feels a little daunting but would love to commit to one that suits my relaxed lifestyle.❤🎉 I am in South Africa
great vid
Need an updated video
Lmao my boy wickens is hilarious 🤣
Played with my temps a lot with my meruakes, basking temps i keep around 135° and cool side around 75° 80°.
What do you use for your radiant heat panel and led lights? Also, where did you get that bull skull? Do you have a link to some of your recommended accessories?
Hey!
First off, I really enjoy your content!
I'd suggest canned snails or feeding snails as needed for sure. As for heat, whatever options you use are fine so long as the perimeters are met.
For a while I have been considering getting a blue tongue for my next reptile, and I'm glad you have a care guide for them! I love the research part of getting a new animal, but different sources giving different answers makes it hard.
I always want my animals to have the best life possible, so as a baseline I prefer to use care guides from people like you that have very healthy animals, and that have similar opinions on various reptile matters. Thank you for the helpful guide!
Watching this because I need to add some things to my northerns cage. It's very bare. I'm not so good at designing. I tried putting those fake plants with bases on them in her tank and she kept trying to eat the plastic. I want to add enrichment in there for her. I believe she's in a T8- 48L x 24 W x 12 H animal plastics tank.
I recommend for the dog food the instinct raw brand I've heard great things abt this brand for blue tongue skinks
I personally substitute in instinct raw brands and my skink loves them and is very happy and healthy. I originally did this as my Indonesian hates eating worms, snails and other general protien based foods suggested for skinks, so this brand is picky eater approved.
I got a halmahera bts it requires 80 to 100% humidity there pretty cool
Same
How do you feel about Peter banded skinks??
Can someone please help. I'm overwhelmed. I just bought a 422 kages enclosure. Which lights should I get??? Everyone tells me something different. This is my first skink
i actually have a glass tank with aquarium for alot of my animals and i have no problems with it besides with my turtle i have to spray him 3 times a day but he has alot of heating
nice
Anyone know a great site for low price tanks for a skink trying to get one but I’m balling on a budget this year
Love the videos. Question about blue toungue skunks do they smell bad as I've read conflicting things
Well, I'd imagine a blue tongued skunk smells pretty bad. A blue tongued skink however should be find so long as you make a point to clean their enclosure.
@@jabourq would a bioactive enclosure with isopods be a good replacement for cleaning a cage
Hey I’m very interested in blue tounge skinks how are they on the being handled and aggressiveness
I don't own one but I hope to but from what I've heard they are good at being handled and are reluctant to bite and they can drop their tail I believe but only if its last resort necessary and also sometime I think they can be a bit hissy if they've been basking for a while but from what I understand if you pick them up they should calm down I hope this helps
And hope you get one
For my first blue tongue skink should I get northern or Indonesian
Depends on what you like. Northern is more popular and might be a bit easier to keep if the humidity thing is an issue for you
I don’t know if it’s late but try a Northern they are easier to keep and are mainly captive bred compared to Indonesians but at the end of the day it’s what is best for you
The Reptile Keeper thanks
I would say if you live any place thats not Australia go northern
Would it be alright for me to keep an Indonesian BTS in a wooden viv, that is 15 square feet?
if you can keep humidity up for sure
Can you use sugar can mulch for eastern blueys
not sure, never heard of that being used.
Did you ever do the video on the different species of BTS?
I have not
Hey i like your videos, i live in indonesia so it's easy to find CB BTS. I like to ask you something, how many times can i feed BTS?. After i saw ur video maybe i'll get one pretty soon
Rainy Day it depends on how old they are, if their on the younger side I’d say like 2 to 3 times a week. Still doing research myself so I’d recommend looking it up! Hope this help a little
Any tips for a stubborn skink. Ours was sold as a northern but not sure asked loads off people who work with skinks it's 50 50 some think hybrid. right my question is I can get him to eat protein based food egg, snails the odd pinkie but he will not eat his green I have tried too many to things to list off the list off ok foods. Have you ever had any problems with yours, whats his favourite greens. Any tips for getting him to eat.
I've never had this issue sorry no. Snails, dog food, earth worms, mustard greens, chard, collard greens are the go to
@@WickensWickedReptiles okie dokie thanks for the reply will just keep trying different things he's bound to like something.
I know this is a bit older, but my halm was WC and he didn't take to greens either. I added some chicken broth (made myself without salt) and added a bit to the greens. That did the trick for me
@@chelsea5378 thank you great trip will try it :)
Some people sometimes blend the greens with things like roo meat to convince their skink to eat it. Could that help?
I am getting a leopard gecko soon but my next lizard I want is a BTS
awesome to hear!
there are so many reptiles i want but sadly i live in Australia
you can have some cool native stuff though right
@@WickensWickedReptiles it depends what state you live in but yeah i guess we do have some pretty cool native stuff but really nothing like leopard geckos.
@@Maven8ter cant you get African fat tailed geckos? those are basically leo clones i heard you can get them in Australia
@@lacklusterluke5855 we can only keep specific native animals not a chance we are allowed to keep non natives legally
How tall should the tank be?
doesn't matter much as long as the rest is perfect.
Not too much they stick to the ground with their stubby legs
Great video but, you probably shouldn't bake stones or rocks Disinfect another way.
Can you feed dog food
Because that what mountain reptiles said
Do you feed cat or dog food
Bella Stein thank you but brand would u recomend
Bella Stein Thank you😇🙂☺️😊😌
You do comedy? Link!

@@WickensWickedReptiles nice 👌🏿😂
calling all petco works clueless is pretty dumb, who do you think is watching some of your videos learning about how to take of pets so that other can do the same?
