  • Blue Tongue Skinks are one of the reasons I got into reptiles when I was a child. My earliest memory of reptiles was seeing one of these beauties on the TV and I was hooked!
    I go over everything you need to know about Blue Tongue Skinks in this week's episode of Wickens Wicked Reptiles

    Love all the info in your videos. I would like to know what your opinion will be on the top 5 reptiles for a beginner that I can easily take out on walks or to the shops during the day. I have no reptiles yet just because it feels a little daunting but would love to commit to one that suits my relaxed lifestyle.❤🎉 I am in South Africa

      I'd suggest canned snails or feeding snails as needed for sure. As for heat, whatever options you use are fine so long as the perimeters are met.

    For a while I have been considering getting a blue tongue for my next reptile, and I'm glad you have a care guide for them! I love the research part of getting a new animal, but different sources giving different answers makes it hard.
    I always want my animals to have the best life possible, so as a baseline I prefer to use care guides from people like you that have very healthy animals, and that have similar opinions on various reptile matters. Thank you for the helpful guide!

    Watching this because I need to add some things to my northerns cage. It's very bare. I'm not so good at designing. I tried putting those fake plants with bases on them in her tank and she kept trying to eat the plastic. I want to add enrichment in there for her. I believe she's in a T8- 48L x 24 W x 12 H animal plastics tank.

    I recommend for the dog food the instinct raw brand I've heard great things abt this brand for blue tongue skinks

    • @haylier654
      @haylier654 2 года назад +1

      I personally substitute in instinct raw brands and my skink loves them and is very happy and healthy. I originally did this as my Indonesian hates eating worms, snails and other general protien based foods suggested for skinks, so this brand is picky eater approved.

    • @jabourq

    • @thediligentdungbeetle8116
      @thediligentdungbeetle8116 3 года назад

      I don't own one but I hope to but from what I've heard they are good at being handled and are reluctant to bite and they can drop their tail I believe but only if its last resort necessary and also sometime I think they can be a bit hissy if they've been basking for a while but from what I understand if you pick them up they should calm down I hope this helps

    • @WickensWickedReptiles
      @WickensWickedReptiles  4 года назад +5

      Depends on what you like. Northern is more popular and might be a bit easier to keep if the humidity thing is an issue for you

      @finnsreptiles9326 4 года назад +2

    Any tips for a stubborn skink. Ours was sold as a northern but not sure asked loads off people who work with skinks it's 50 50 some think hybrid. right my question is I can get him to eat protein based food egg, snails the odd pinkie but he will not eat his green I have tried too many to things to list off the list off ok foods. Have you ever had any problems with yours, whats his favourite greens. Any tips for getting him to eat.
