    Wow, that was a handful. Nice job John and Dave. Being from western Kansas, I have to deal with wind gusts about every flight I take. Using the throttle when landing is just about the only thing you can do when the plane wants to float on you. Great flymanship gentlemen!

    I have this plane and fly it on a 4000 to 5000 mah 6S battery and it flies very scale like. I do think it could use a larger motor though. I bought this plane over a year ago from bitgo hobby and it took close to 40 hours to build because of poor fitting parts and other things. I received the plane with a defective ESC and contacted Bitgo by phone and email multiple times and received no response whatsoever. I ended up having to purchase a new ESC myself, which left a bad taste in my mouth about the company. I also modified the landing gear with coil springs instead of gas shocks, and it lands 100% better. The plane flies quite well with a 6S battery and I did not have the issues you were having possibly because of the weight on the nose. I have learned a lot from your videos about open TX and Edge TX and I think your videos are very well done. Thanks for all the work you put into your videos and good luck with this plane.

    A little note. I checked several plans for PT17 steerman's they all have the CD located On the top wing perpendicular to the leading edge of the bottom wing with the airplane on a level position that means the Manual is recommending a way tail heavy CG don't know why. We'll fix that and do another maiden, I think the plane deserves Another shot. it will be a great airplane.

      I notice that the 1400mm instruction manual uses the same images that are in the1600mm manual. The images are all in the white fuse/yellow wing livery. They might have just used the 1600mm manual print file to make updates to as they went. And, somebody missed the CG change?

    • @anyonecanfly1404
      @anyonecanfly1404 Год назад +1

      Also, in the 1400mm Stearman, you have an option to not use the larger 37g servos that come with the kit and go with the smaller 17g servos in both the wings and the fuse. Those larger servos weigh a ton and they're well back from CG. It would take quite a bit of nose weight just to compensate for that.

  • @HciContractor

    She's a beauty though. Nice build! I love the colors.
    I just finished a dancing wings Cub. I bought the kit motor and all but used a eflite commander motor and better servos. I should have gobs of power. I weigh sub 1400grams and the commander is 2000 grams. This is twice the motor that came with the cub. Hopefully I haven't over done the power. I'll maiden it if we ever get a decent day around here!

    It could be that the manufacturer got the wing incident’s wrong. The bottom should be zero to the stab, the top should have a little positive so it stalls first.

      Cooling requires ventilation, so make some holes in that beauty plate and make 2x the holes in the fuselage for egress.

    It is possible that this plane will fly differently because it is smaller. Also my experience with the Bitgo company might not be the norm. I really like mine a lot and it gets many compliments. When I posted this comment I didn’t realize that this plane was smaller. Either way, I think it is a great plane and people won’t be disappointed if they purchase one.

    It seemed very underpowered and tail heavy all the way through both flights, as witnessed from the extreme porpoising and touchy elevator inputs. A bit more forward CG with a bigger battery (2600-3300mah) and some expo should have that thing flying like a dream.

      I wasn't thrilled with the motor. They need something more beefy than that. BUT, I've been spending a lot of time in 3D lately--so I'm probably a little biased. I do think it should be able to do loops and rolls, and hammerheads though, and I didn't feel it with this motor.

      Do you think a Turnigy 3542-1000 would provide enough oomph? What are you thinking of swapping out with? The 1600mm Stearman is really not that much bigger and uses a TomCat G60 5030-KV420. It uses (4) of those incredibly heavy 37g servos and from what I've seen, it flies well on a 6S. @@RCVideoReviews

    Yeah that is a very pretty plane .the maiden was a heart attack, that is probably the worst made I have ever had, The 2nd flight looked much more stable on the pitch axes with the Cg more forward. but it still needs more Work. I will be checking the geometry on the wings Because they could've gotten twisted in the Box , The incidents on the wings of a biplane is very critical. it's like driving a car that's completely out of alignment .never know just gotta look at it all over. every little tweak we'll help. it should fly very good we'll see.

    Really seems underpowered and tail heavy. I just bought this one from hobbyking, but I’m gonna just go ahead and run it 6s in it and go easy on the throttle. I’m sure it will do much better with the extra weight of a 4000 6s shoved up front. Watched the dancing wings vids on this and the 64” se5a and they were pathetic and very underpowered. China factory is not recommending the right setups at all. those factory guys can barely even fly the things lol. I’m gonna run 6s 4000 on the se5a (64”) with a 400kv 17” prop and a 500kv 15” prop on the steerman. Nexa same thing those power recommendations are pretty weak. Like the nexa grasshopper clearly needs more power than 770 on 4s. It’s much better to have that power and just be gentle on the throttle.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  5 месяцев назад

      I agree, the power level is definitely on the low end. Some guys actually prefer the 'scale feel'. I'm usually apprehensive about PnP power performance.
