Just got the Katana 17.. i7, 32gb, 4060 and I love it for the price. Just got it for $1050 on Amazon on sale. You really cant beat these specs for the price in a laptop. 144hz HD screen in really nice, keyboard is solid, heat dissipation has been good and Im getting great performance while gaming. All around solid purchase so far. Now, we will see how reliable and how much longevity it has, as for me, that is the most important thing.
@bruno3789 sound seems solid to me. Only problem I've had is the Norton Anti virus. It causes keyboard lag n uses a lot of resources, so I had to use an installer to just get rid of it and the problem has stopped.
@@pizzathehuttgaming I have the same one. There are only 2 problems, otherwise, I highly recommend. One, is like Jon said, the Norton that comes with this laptop can interfere with the keyboard for some strange reason while gaming(either go through all of your Norton gaming settings or just uninstall it properly). And 2, is heat. But, heat is no surprise here. I think this laptop does rather well at dissipating heat, but, just monitor your temps. This is a very powerful laptop crammed into a small package. Only so much a manufacturer can do for cooling.. It is your responsibility to make sure it can breathe and does not overheat. Other than that, I have had this for 6 months now, and I LOVE it!. Affordable, and great specs. Screen is really solid. I watch movies on it, and gaming is smooth as can be. This thing can handle pretty much anything.
@@N0ZYnate Thanks sm Nate, I decided to order it and I'm going to see how I like it - I was mostly only worried because I saw some reviews saying that the hinge on the screen was super faulty and the laptop had bad battery
@@sunchitsharma24 i only play plugged in but for the price it works really well. Got it for aprox 13000 swrdish cr. Imnot so technical but prettty smooth on high settings on all games so far. Im only a 14 year old kid whos been trying to get a new laptop for a long while but I think I have something I can finally save up for! it may take a very very very long time but it looks so worth it. I will give a review when I get enough money to purchase it!
I just bought 2023 MSI Katana 17 with 64 gb and 1T something or another, and its my first gaming laptop. I needed a new laptop, and in addition I was going to buy a 55"OLED TV an Xbox series X, and then looked at pricing at it was more than if I'd just combine it all into a laptop which is what I did. I'm told that even though its a 2023 year model its still whats used for 2024 and apparently was a $4k gaming monster machine, but Im looking very much forward to it, and I didn't pay that, paid a ton less for it new old stock on Amazon. Last laptop I bought was a cheap slow HP for word doc and email use, I paid maybe $220.00 for it and that was in 2016, my kid used it for school and now it just randomly shuts off in the middle of work and very frustrating. Especially as a writer and you loose so much time and work and it make you paranoid hitting cntr+S every 20 seconds. But doesn't matter if J save when the blue screen shows up in the middle of whatever your doing. It was a wimpy lottle machine and did what I needed for the time. Lol it was bogged down by Solitary and movies lol ... I choose MSI as I did a lot of research and when a sale was ending in 2 hours with 1 left, I did quich research at that but what I found is overwhelming habds down this is the best gamming laptop powerful, and I really like the design, stars for build quality and honestly its great to have something unique that's not a HP, Sony, Apple, same run of the mile. I think it looks amazing and I haven't been this excited in years.
I have been working with brand new laptop Katana 17 B13V (Intel i7, 32GB RAM, RTX 4060, 1TB SSD) since december 2023, and so far the laptop does good job, but I have a slightly disturbing problem: The Laptop is always HOT AS HELL, but the problem is on CPU, NVIDIA's GPU drives very good. When laptop is idle the CPU goes to aprox 65°C, when browsing the internet, opening PDF's etc. this rise up to 80°C, but man, while gaming, for example, Fallout 4 Ultra-High Graphics, is as if im invoking Satan himself, almos thinking how the chip is smelting inside. For a while I tought it was some fabric issue, but browsing the internet I found a lot of people have the same problem on their own Katana Laptops. This overheating happens either on Windows or Linux. Im a bit worried that if this keeps as it is, laptop wont last long. If I could, I would swap this laptop for another one with less temperature, or make MSI work on a functional cooling system for this laptop, because it is evident, this isnt working as it should. Best regards.
@@Lol-dx1di 100% sure it will, but i kinda fixed it, it still goes hot while gaming, but not so hot while doing any other light task. There is this little thing called Intel Turbo Boost technology, this makes the cpu boost performance, but while boosting performance the temps also goes up, and this comes activated in aggressive mode from vendor. To deactivate this you have to tinker with power settings registry in Windows. If you're using Linux I'm afraid I don't know how to help you, there was a fix changing values at some files named "Intel p-cores states" or something like that but in my case it didn't worked.
if it has such a great cooling feature, is this normal that the temp is 45C on standby, meaning when laptop is on but I actually not work on it ? I bought it today and this is the first thing I noticed.
Nice one, but MSI Center still don't work at all, and you forgot the screw for the 2d NVME OMG... if you have to save for budget laptops just drop the fancy back light logos, rgb, plastics and screen like this are cheaper but functional, thats fine for me, we need the engine inside man
@@michaelross499 Yes, for me it decreses the temp by 7c. I have also made a clean Windows Installation and I've experienced some temperature increases since then. The problem may be related to intel dynamic tuning driver. Before I changed SSD SO location it was preinstalled. It handles the CPU performance, hence the CPU may experience some heat "problems"
why is the display port disabled when using the mux switch feature, it basically has no use then when gaming on monitor and i've heard that using a monitor can actually increase fps, so i cant unleash the full power or does the mux switch feature only work for hdmi output?
How do you shut the laptop off? And I 1also downloaded Mystic Light and have tried to make to keyboard a standard white color and cant figure it out. thanks

The MSI Katana’s whole reason to exist is to provide good performance for sensible money.
