I can testify to the durability of the Front Runner Flat Pack. I left one on my roof rack and drove off. It fell off at highway speed and took quite a tumble.
The external canvas did rip in a couple of places. But the zippers still work perfectly. I chalk it up to trail rash, and it’s still going strong. Will be getting a second one.

Wow that's impressive. I had a mouce chew the corner out of one to get to my dogs food. Still kicking. Thanks for watching.

What I came here for: learning about totes for overlanding.
What I got: he loves his dog as much as I love mine 🤣

This makes me question why I need hard sided cargo boxes.

In my opinion if you can set it up to grab easily without having to climb deep in the bed it makes sense. Large hard sided totes are better when you need to overload with gear.

Can I ask why you’ve chosen to use totes rather than a drawer system? (Just about to start building our first rig).

Yeah for sure. A couple of reasons honestly. First was the additional vertical space between the truck bed and the top entrance of the Habitat camper having a drawer would take up. You access my tent from the rear and I wanted to avoid having a drawer to step over. My original plan was to put a drawer under my fridge on the drivers side of the truck bed then have a drop down fridge slide, but I decided it would be simpler and more cost effective to just do a straight fridge slide and cut out the bottom drawer. Finally I just wanted to have smaller dedicated containers I could pull out and toss around camper rather than drop the tailgate and pull out the drawer as well as limiting myself by the size of the tote so I didn't pack unnecessary items. I really want too minimize the time I spend with the truck bed open to avoid the intrusion of mosquitoes and such in the sleeping area so my entire build is built around the concept of in and out quick grabs. What platform of vehicle are you going to be building off of?
      Thanks for watching!

The whole system will make a lot more sense once I finish it up and post the video showcasing it. Probably another 2-3 weeks for that

Thanks! It’s a Ford Ranger Raptor (European) - we were actually planning a combination of a flat slides with the totes on top. Attempting to get maximum flexibility but I’m interested to see your final setup. :-)
