The saddest part of this video is that the record companies and video director had a meeting behind the bands back, and "they" decided that Ann was "too heavy" to be fully seen. So all of her camera shots were taken from either close up of her face or from far away. They didn't want to show her from a full body angle. After the video was released, the band was livid that they did this to her. 😠
If you liked Magic Man and Barracuda better (me too) - you need to check out Crazy On You next, its back in that classic rock genre and is a certified banger.
Crazy On You Live ... Love Nancy's intro and her high kick. This version ---> Heart - Crazy On You (Live, 1978) ......and put the fan on to feel the breeze going through Nancy's hair. lol.
Beautiful harmonies, gritty vocals. "Alone" is a dipthong, 2 or more distinct vowel sounds. This word also has 2 distinct consonants, L & N. She somehow manages to catch each letter, but bites off the N before it gets nasally. Exceptional control! These women are phenomenal!!
Their albums had plenty of hard rockers, but Capitol Records was only interested in Top 40 hits so they sent primarily power ballads out to radio as singles. It's too bad because the best material from that era are the tracks that didn't get released as singles. Brigade as a whole was one of the heaviest albums they ever did but the four singles were all whiny power ballads. It hurt their rock cred for awhile.
This is late 80's and a bit of a comeback for Heart. Maybe 12 years after the 1st album which was in '75.. Great song. I 1st saw them live in '71 or '72 at 'The Heart of Gold' Valentines Day Ball at the Bayshore Inn Hotel in Vancouver and have followed them ever since. Great memories. I'd suggest 'These Dreams' next so you can hear Nancy sing one. Cheers.
Crazy On You Live ... Love Nancy's intro and her high kick. This version ---> Heart - Crazy On You (Live, 1978) ......and put the fan on to feel the breeze going through Nancy's hair. lol.
Yeh agree. In that live performance it's also good to see Annie front and center where she should be, not hidden away in the shadows and far away up on a balcony like they did in this music video.
Totally agree with comments to listen to These Dreams, live in Seattle, with Nancy on lead and Ann on backup. Fantastic change of pace. And for another infamous performance watch them perform Stairway To Heaven at the Kennedy Center Honors, in front of Led Zeppelin and President Obama.
Their song Crazy on You was the song that got them their initial record contract and is also on their debut album Dreamboat Annie with Magic Man. I think you might like that one too.
The contrast between the soft and power sections is so sweet. And the transition is so sharp that there's actually hardly any. Like a smack in the face.
Another great Heart reaction! They're so amazing i could watch reactions to them all day. "If looks could kill" is another song that I've always enjoyed.
Floor Jansen has covered this song meanwhile 2 times, so that alone should say that its really a great song. And as an old Heart fan since they released Barracuda i also love the stuff from this period.
They played the 6 Flags amusement park here in Atlanta on that tour. Was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. And yes, I’ve had a major crush on the Wilson sisters since I was 13. And to be honest, I still do. They have been estranged for a few years, doing their own things, but have just announced a 2024 tour.
Funny you mentioned Journey, they were often referred to as a female Led Zeppelin. And when Ann Wilson sang Stairway to Heaven in honor of Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Arts Center she brought the house down! Best live cover of that song ever recorded!
This song was my introduction to heart as a 12/13 year old impressionable boy in the Seattle area. So, it goes without saying, this is my favorite Heart song but having delved into their body of work, some of their earlier songs were definitely purer, more them. No matter, these two ladies have just AMAZING voices and blend so well! Ann obviously gets more attention as the lead and deservedly so. Her voice, range and control is off the charts! And this song actually accentuates this beautifully. Listen as she holds out the elevated final note of the word "alone". It's so easy to allow the sound to tail off because it's not an easy note/consonant to hold that long. But she absolutely NAILS it!! But let's not sleep on Nancy here. If you listen to the harmony in the background, that's Nancy skying to not only hit but hold those high notes! Plus, she plays the piano, the guitar masterfully...such talented sisters who have blessed us with their music. Even more proud that they came from my home area!
As interesting aside "Alone" was written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly, who recorded it under the name i-Ten in 1983. Heart's version came in out in 1987. Celine Dion covered it in 2007. Not sure many ever heard the original version, but at least they made some money with the songwriting rights.
Great reaction...this just made my Friday!! Can never go wrong with Heart & the wonderful Wilson sisters. This is the quintessential 80's power ballad - I've loved it since my sister came home with the cassette of Bad Animals back in 1987. She was also a frequenter of MuchMusic & recorded sooooo many videos - I watched this dozens of times. Like many, I had such a mad crush on Ann & Nancy! That note Ann hits will always send shivers down my spine! I agree - I much prefer the 70's stuff, but Heart definitely owned much of the 80's as well. Another track to check to hear Ann's impeccable voice & Nancy's guitar prowess is Dream Of The Archer/Sylvan Song (from Little Queen - same album as Barracuda). Cheers.
Another great one by them is their "Stairway to Heaven - Kennedy Center Honors" specifically honoring Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center. However, if you react to it be aware that there are chopped versions that cut out some of Ann's performance; thus, be sure to listen to the 7:59 FULL version.
This is 80`s. Heart started out in the 70`s. This is later stuff from them and this got radio play all over the world. This was one of their biggest hits!
A much more pop sound in this era than their 70's material.Though it sounds good, I prefer their 70's sound. Floor Jansen does a good cover of this song
She probably heard the song before from one of the early seasons of the American Idol show , where the female contestant won the show that year due to her good performance to this awesome Heart's hit song .
With this song you can definitely see a huge shift from the 70s psychadelic sound, to the 80s hair band rock, but brilliant. They've changed and stayed relevant to over 4 decades and generations. Just when it couldn't get better, they covered Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center in front of Led Zeppelin, of course Ann killed it!
The band charted singles and top ten albums on the Billboard charts in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2010s: a four-decade span of top ten albums that is a record for a female-fronted band.
I know that Floor Jansen and many other female vocalist in today's rock bands have said that Wilson sisters and Pat Benetar were those woman that smoothed the path to other female's. Obviously Roxette band's singer was also from this 80's era.
Phil, you have to keep in mind the time of the music. Alone was the 80’s. Ann and Nancy always stayed true to the music trends. A must is “These Dreams - Live from Seattle” Nancy on lead, and I’m sure y’all heard it.
I’ve heard this song & saw this video a buncha times. Now I've recenrlt learned that this is actually a cover! What? Apparently it was originally done by some band (I think a band) I-Ten in 1983, then done by Valerie Stevenson & John Stamos (it’s, uncle Jesse) in 85 for the show Dreams. Then Heart released this in 1987. So what Heart did was add “‘Til now” in the chorus, Anne’s epic high note, & a slightly different guitar solo (though John Stanos’ solo is pretty fire too). Yeah, put this in the category of “songs you didn’t know are covers.”
Some.other hit songs from Heart,"Crazy On You", "Straight On" early Heart from the 70's Look for the live performances of both songs.."AllI Want To Do Is Make Love To You" and "These Dreams" and "Never" among some others from the 1980's...Great Reaction by the way..
My daughter and l fell in love with the sound of Heart. She was in her teens when they toured the UK. We couldn’t wait for the big night when we could finally see them. It turned out to be one of the worst gigs we had ever been to! The band were superb, the set list couldn’t have been better, but the sound engineering was literally painful. The bass and drums were physically painful. So much so that the foyer of the theatre was more fuller than the stall auditorium. We were so heartbroken, we’d been looking forward to see them for so long. My two favourite RUclips Heart videos which l beg you to watch, is Nothin’ At All, and the tribute to Led Zeppelin’s Stairway To Heaven, in front of The US President, and the surviving members of Led Zep, which also featured Jason Bonham, son of Zep’s original drummer John Bonham. A must see for all Heart fans. Great channel, lovin’ you both.
I woke up every morning in my bed as a teen in the 70's looking up and seeing full size posters of Nancy Wilson, Linda Ronstadt & Tanya Tucker watching me. 😍To be fair, there were also posters of the Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Tigers, Hank Aaron, Black Oak Arkansas and The Moon Maid by Frank Frazetta.
A great cover you should check out of this song is Floor Jansen of Nightwish doing her own rendition of this. Keep up the great reactions, love that your reactions are soo genuine.
As far as I'm aware this was their only song that made it into the charts here in the UK, I may be wrong saying that, but it was definitely their biggest song here, and what a song it is, absolutely amazing
Ann Wilson - best female rock vocalist, no contest! Forget the rest!
My favorite Heart song. Ann and Nancy are a rock force to be reckoned with. Such amazing talent all around.
I know you are also Nightwish (Floor fans). She did a slowed down cover of this. Also stunning.
Check out their version of Unchained Melody….trust me 😉
"What About Love?" Ann Wison has very powerful vocals in that song.I hope ya'l get a request to hear that one also
I 2nd this motion! 🔥
It's a better song than this one
@@davidpalahinjak8954 3rd it!!
🔥
And it's the album that actually gave them their huge comeback, 4 Top Ten hits, where "Alone" was from the next album.
Hard to believe the lead singer is currently on the charts with the Disturbed duet and still sounds awesome some 30 years later. Crazy.
‘These dreams’ live in Seattle is amazing. Nancy on lead vocals. Stunning live performance
My favorite version of "These Dreams."
@@RonaldCanfield-m2rsame. It’s just perfect
Talent like this is IMPOSSIBLE to find these days!!❤
The saddest part of this video is that the record companies and video director had a meeting behind the bands back, and "they" decided that Ann was "too heavy" to be fully seen. After the video was released, the band was livid that they did this to her. 😠
yeah i remember that! it was so wrong!
She was always beautiful, no matter her weight, and she has one of the very best voices in rock.
@@markmurphy558could be the best female rock voice❤
Could be? Unequivocally the best female rock voice.
Imagine they picked on her weight then... LOOK at is seen today😮
Woman brings chills to my arms everytime i hear her sing. Only one to ever do that.
A magnificent duo. Doesn't get much better than these two.
Alone is my favorite Heart song.

Definitely one of the best voices in rock ever
You should hear Heart’s song, “These Dreams”. Perhaps my absolute favorite by them.
This was a huge 80s song. During the 80s, they were all about the power ballad, which was very different from their 70's songs.
Their albums had plenty of hard rockers, but Capitol Records was only interested in Top 40 hits so they sent primarily power ballads out to radio as singles. Brigade as a whole was one of the heaviest albums they ever did but the four singles were all whiny power ballads. It hurt their rock cred for awhile.
Heard Heart do this live. Ann absolutely nailed it. Even more impressive live.
Live Seattle coming next!
This is late 80's and a bit of a comeback for Heart. Maybe 12 years after the 1st album which was in '75.. Great song. " These Dreams " is a winner ......with Nancy [ the blond ] as primary vocalist .
Their only number 1 hit
Pure TALENT!
Crazy On You Live ... Love Nancy's intro and her high kick. This version ---> Heart - Crazy On You (Live, 1978) ......and put the fan on to feel the breeze going through Nancy's hair. lol.
Heart Is so amazing,so tearfull
Live in Seattle version of Alone (with Ann on lead) and These Dreams (with Nancy on lead) is fire! Musically stripped down, but vocally brilliant.
Yeh agree. In that live performance it's also good to see Annie front and center where she should be, not hidden away in the shadows and far away up on a balcony like they did in this music video.
Alone Seattle coming next!

Saw them in concert 4 times, around the U.S. One of the solid bands to come out of the Seattle area. They've stood the test of time!!!
The contrast between the soft and power sections is so sweet. And the transition is so sharp that there's actually hardly any. Like a smack in the face.
These Dreams and Nothing at All are two of my favs from them.
Saw Heart live in Boston with Burt Cummings and Orleans 1978 4th of July at The Esplanade, 100,000 people. Nancy and Ann Wilson stole the show!
Was lucky enough to see them in 87 on tour after this album came out. Great show.
One of the best power ballads ever! Great reaction, guys! Grettings from Spain!
Thanks so much!!
It is my favorite. Saw it for the first time on MTV and was blown away.
1987 was such an amazing year for music and a Albums. I mean there is some incredible ones that came out in 1987.
Such a great Power Ballad.

Heart at this time came back in force, this whole album is great! They were bordering on Rock/Hard Rock and was their most successful period.
I have been listening to them since seventies . This is their best !!!!!!
Saw Heart with Jason Bonham, just after Heart did Zep's Stairway at the Kennedys. Ann did a stripped down acapella version of this. Was amazing
This is my absolute favorite heart song, and the video is awesome I was so in love with Nancy Wilson
Ann Wilson ... effin powerhouse of a singer .. this is my favorite Heart song
You guys really need to check out the live version of this song from Seattle 2013. Goosebumps and then some!!!!

The most powerful female voice in rock by far!
Ann Wilson is still touring and put out her album and she is Killing it!
Dennis Reynolds + Jackie DeNardo=❤

This is one of my favorites from Heart, for sure. I mean.....everything they do is great, so it's difficult to just center on one song.
"Crazy On You" should be your next Heart listen. It is amazing.
Yes really pleased you reacting to this!. 😊
Some days all you need for you day is a little Ann and Nancy Wilson! Ann’s voice is angelic and she can still kill it!
With this song you can definitely see a huge shift from the 70s psychadelic sound, to the 80s hair band rock, but brilliant. They've changed and stayed relevant to over 4 decades and generations. This is really a good one. Love Heart.
They did and excellent job.❤❤
You gotta check out Crazy On You from their 70s era, and pretty much everything in their 80s era.
You should check out Floor Jansen's cover of this she made from her home studio during the pandemic lockdowns. It is epic.
Same as before -Live Crazy on You is a must
If looks could kill and Shellshock by Heart are such bangers!
Ann Wilson and Mike Reno of the band 'Loverboy' did a great duet in the 80's,Almost Paradise, they sound great together on it.
They did that duet for the movie “Footloose” soundtrack. It was a big hit.
All time banger!
love it , i have this along with other songs by heart on my ipod
POWER! 🔥
These dreams was played on the radio 20 times a day
I recommend Dream of the Archer (studio version). Ann's voice at the end gives me chills . . .
The band charted singles and top ten albums on the Billboard charts in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2010s: a four-decade span of top ten albums that is a record for a female-fronted band.
Great group all ways crazy on you magic mam Barracuda a long career lots of great songs
that's right - this is a song that almost everyone has heard, but not everyone knows who actually sings!

Ann Wilson top 5 female vocalist in history....Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, and Amy Lee from Evanescence being the other 4.
Duet by Mike Reno [ Loverboy ] and Ann Wilson [ Heart ] ....ALMOST PARADISE.... From the original Footloose soundtrack
Alone and these dreams live in Seattle is more recent and really shows both ladies range.
A great cover you should check out of this song is Floor Jansen of Nightwish doing her own rendition of this. Keep up the great reactions, love that your reactions are soo genuine.
Thank you!
All about the pumped up hair back in the 80's. Gotta luv it
