How Kuala Lumpur Transformed From A Jungle To A Thriving Metropolis

  • A city in Malaysia that was built in the middle of a jungle, with the highest twin towers in the world. The multiculturalism is a part of everyday life here, the average age of inhabitants is 27.4. The old town and the new town, the heart of the former rural-urban core beats next to the sky-scrappers. Kuala Lumpur, a city that never sleeps.

The name of the vet at the Bird Park is Kartini. Ahmad is her father's name. Malays do not have surnames/family names the way Westerners/Chinese ppl do. He should have referred to her as Dr Kartini, not Dr Ahmad.
Whenever the narrator says "Dr Ahmad", he is referring to her father, not her. And he is giving her father a title he did not earn, unless Dr Kartini's father is also a doctor.

@@A.Baskoro-pl7zx I just have to respond.
A.Malays are extremely inclusive. How many non-Malays have been accepted as part of the community ? Malays accept everyone as Malay when that person regards himself or herself as Malay. That is why Malays come in all type of skin colours and physiology.
      B. The term Islamist chauvinism is a term in contradiction. Islam allows for the practice of other belief systems.
      The Quran says -
      1. " There is no compulsion in religion. Truth is clear from error " ( The Quran 2:256)
      2. " If it had been the Will of your Lord, they would all have believed - all who are on earth ! Will you then compel mankind, against their will, to believe ? (The Quran 10:99)
      3. "If then they turn away, We have not sent you as a guard over them. Your duty is only to convey (the Message).” ( The Quran 42: 48)
      4. " Clear proofs have indeed come to you; from your Lord; so whoever sees, it is for his own good; and whoever is blind [ to the Truth ] it is to his own harm. And I am not a keeper over you.” ( The Quran 6:105 )
      5.
"Say: 'O People of the Book [ Jews and Christians ] ! Come to common terms as between us and you: That we worship none but Allah; that we associate no partners with Him; that we erect not, from among ourselves, Lords and patrons other than Allah.' If then they turn back, say you: 'Bear witness that we (at least) are Muslims (bowing to Allah's Will).' ( The Quran, 3 : 64)
      6. "Allah does not forbid you, with regard to those who do not fight against you for your faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: for Allah love those who are just.” (The Quran 60: 8).
      C. If your ex-girlfriend Chinese Malaysian parents fail to distinguish between who is a Malay Muslim and who is a Javanese Christian, then the issue is with your ex-girlfriend parents.
      D. So when and how did Malay nationalism forced all Nusantara peoples to be Muslims ? Also, this is a contradiction in terms - Malay nationalists are usually not align with Islam so much because if they are, they won't be nationalists.

Lol... lots of chinese speak local also here in Malaysia..
Do you know why Chinese in Indonesia more to speak local Indonesian?
Because in President Soeharto Era, he forbids all types of chinese language, Cultures, and chinese identities including chinese name.
Riots agains Chinese communities make them (Chinese) do not know Chinese culture, they used indonesian names, they dont know how to speak Chinese and they lost their chinese identity,,,
Thats why Indonesian chinese more speak local,
Its not something natural, but its forced to be like that.

Most of indonesian said Malaysian Chinese do not know how to speak local Malay language, but actually they (indonesian) wrong,
All malaysian chinese are able to speak Malay if they got national education because to be accepted in Local Highest Institution especially government or half government institution they must get atleast credit in National Language (Malay Language),
They prefer to speak Malay or English when they speak to Malay or Indian or any races.. but they able n know how to speak malay, but among them ofcourse they speak their own languages,
Same goes to Indonesia, when Javanese, Malay, Dayak meet together they speak Indonesian language, but among them, such as among Javanese, they speak Java language,
Dayak among them, they speak dayak..
      Huhu, same goes here,

Because the percentage of Chinese in Malaysia is huge compared to Indonesia.
40-50% in the city. 90-95% in Penang island.
If you go to places where chinese is less than 15%, like Terengganu and Kelantan, Chinese there speaks Bahasa and local dialect

I find the translations Spark uses need work. I notice here and also in the Moroccan video that what is said in the other language isn't really translated, but more interpreted for the benefit of the documentary. A higher level of journalistic integrity would be better. It concerns me that for the languages I do not speak, I am falsely assuming the translations are done properly.

Malaysia is becoming modern and developed, it's probably the most developed Muslim-majority country in the world (Gulf Arab countries aren't really developed in terms of politics and social norms; for a start, they aren't democracies).
So is it really a surprise that Malaysia is facing the same kind of issues that Western and developed East Asian countries faced in the past? Issues like LGBTQ, equality and the rise of liberalism should be expected in a near-developed country like Malaysia.
I hope that Malay conservatives would look at the country in this context.

The city looks stupid for building tall buildings and perform unnecessary land reclaimations when the country has massive space everywhere. The city tries to be like western cities but it turns to ‘breeding cave men in the metropolis’. It's 2021, nobody considers taller buildings as a thing anymore lol

I am a Malaysian. But I would suggest that you choose Bahasa Indonesia. It is more widely spoken due to the superior number of Indonesians. I can't say that they are mutually intelligible but you could easily understand Malay if you learn Bahasa Indonesia but it is still quite hard to comprehend Bahasa Indonesia if you just learn Bahasa Melayu. Just an observation. Fellow Malaysians, please don't flame me. LOL. I'm just helping someone.

As malaysian, based on my observation... we can basically understand each other... but there are a few reasons why we get misunderstood each other frequently.
      1. The indonesian pronounce the roman alphabet differently than usually pronaunce in english... i believe becauce of dutch influence.
      2. The indonesian language got a lot more dutch loanwords compared to malaysian
      3. Indonesian language got a lot more loanwords from local javanese and sundanese
      4. Some words has the same meaning but use in different context. Among the word is "lumayan" (very good) we malaysian only use it in financial issue, but indonesian also use it to describe view.
      5. Indonesian use a different word to describe something, such as "delicious" in indonesian is "enak" while malaysian is "sedap". Even though we understand "enak" but we seldomly use the word.
      6. Just like american (pants) and uk (trousers) english, we also got different word to describe the pants. Indonesian tcall it "celana". While we malaysian call it "seluar".
      7. Indonesian and malaysian also use the same word, but the word got totally different meaning. For example "percuma". For indonesian it means pointless but for malaysian it means free of charge.
We can understand the standard language (textbook and songs) but the spoken language can be tricky. Like i said above we can understand each other but posibbly misunderstood the statement. The obvious one is "butuh". In indonesian it means necessary but in malaysian it means penis.
